      Thanks, Todd. There is such a thing, albeit from a different author. I know there was an Amiga Format cover disk that offered a similar tool (with the exact same name) for 3.0. It's out there somewhere! Also, there's a program called ToolManager which is based off the same concept, too, with even more features. You can find that one on Aminet.

      So - you guys should absolutely, 100% also check out the dock written by my friend bwldrbst. His is called DockBot, and looks almost exactly like a NeXT machine. It's for 2.05 and above. Looks gorgeous and has a lot of very cool features. More here: amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=609&p=8686#p8686

A guide would be great though, if I decide to go back to the 1.4-setup. I'll be installing an 8mb/IDE/kickstart solution in my A1000 in a couple of weeks though, so I'll finally have a cool 1.3 setup there. :)

    Great stuff, Eric. I seem to remember discussions back in the day whether it was "C.L.I" or "Clee" - but I think we all settled on Shell after 1990. It was always C.L.I. to me.

      It was a sideways joke with a British Twitch streamer friend of mine. It is weird, tho, right? There's no real rhyme or reason as to why we sometimes say an acronym, and sometimes spell it out. And the British seem to the exact reverse of whatever we do for the same terms.

    Great stuff. Back in the day when I had my original A1200, I didn't know this existed, but I used I believe it was ToolsDaemon to add extra menus to my Workbench menus, and launched tools that way. This looks like it will be perfect to add to my A600 which still has KS/WB 2, so thank you so very much for how much detail you went into here!

      Very cool, Troy. Thanks for the kind words. I know there was also a ToolManager program which was very full-featured, but a few folks have told me it was difficult to configure. A friend of mine - very recently - created something called AmiBot, which is also inspired by NeXT. It's for 3.0+ machines. You can read more about that here (and download it, should you feel the urge). =) amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?p=8643#p8643

  • @LeftoverBeefcake
    @LeftoverBeefcake Před 4 lety +1

    I'm a bit surprised it didn't come with some kind of installer/shell script since the process of putting it on an HD manually seems a bit fiddly, but it's definitely an awesome little tool. Nice!

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 4 lety +1

      Agreed. An installer would have been sweet and probably not too difficult. That being said, the "Icon" feature was never implemented, either, so maybe Gary Knight was busy. =)

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC Před 4 lety +3

      A lot of the 1.3 programs did not come with an installer as Commodore had not settled on a standard installer yet. A majority of people were still on floppy only systems with 1.3, so an installer to another floppy would have been tricky.

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 4 lety +1

      @@10MARC That's true in the 80s, but this came out in 1991. By then, a lot of folks in the US had moved to HDDs. It struck me as a little odd, too - but then again Hippo Player requires the same type of fiddling (even more) which was designed for 1.2, and it came out in 2000! So... yeah, who knows? Amiga Installers are kinda Wild West as it is. Shit - even Black Dawn Rebirth (2020) had serious install issues for my 3000.

    For me sometimes glitchching amidock 45.14, if i press left mouse button when click on top of screen in hotbar menu in classic workbench in emulator by pressing left click button of mouse then mouse just frezz, but emulator still working and clock ( clock apps with time also continue work, but mouse cirsor just freez ), and when try change on hotbar menu of workbench or amidock, 50 on 50... btw, in emulator , in ClassicWB_OS39_v28 version, i do not know why... In Amiga OS 3.9 all fine...

    interesting video! :) Hmm, Maybe CLI would be pronounced C L I and Cli is pronounced as a word? If one wanted to be pedantic (which is so unlike computer people), CLI is all caps and thus an abbreviation, while Cli only has the first letter capitalized and is thus a name :D

      Hey Dusted! Good to see you here, man - thanks for watching! Yeah, I was just joking about the LED stuff. I'd had a conversation with Hayesmaker and his chat group at some point where people were arguing over how to say LED lights which in the US we say "El-ee-dee" and in the UK they say "Lead" even though it's an acronym for light emitting diode. Anyway... Obviously there's no rhyme or reason to it all because we cal it the "klee" and that's an acronym, too. =)

      @@AmigaLove Well, yes enhancer can be animed like temp meters, and much more customization is avail. Only bug is it crashes with old 1.3 style icons or loses them. But would love these classes backported as Enhancer for Classics. Nice baseline that should be part of standard OS. Fragmenting to AEON licences is stupid, same goes for Octamed, Personal Paint, not to mention Libre Office "Still in beta"
