How to disassemble and clean an air conditioner

  • I cleaned the air conditioner installed in the woodworking workshop.
    I haven't cleaned it since December 2018.
    Air conditioner filters are changed regularly.
    However, since it is an air conditioner installed in the workshop, it will be in a filter state like a movie in 3 months.
    This time, I tried both a spray cleaner for home use and a liquid cleaner for business use.
    (Excessive cleaning is not good, but it is an experiment...)
    It turned out that spray-type cleaning liquids for home use have relatively low cost performance but can be cleaned relatively safely.
    Professional cleaning liquids can be expected to have a powerful cleaning effect at low cost.
    However, it is not perfect. In addition, since the cleaning solution is alkaline, incorrect use may damage the air conditioner or cause serious harm to the human body.
    Handle with care.
    Purchase cleaning tools (sprayer, cleaning solution for business use, cleaning cover) for around 7,000 yen.
    Since the cleaning solution can be used about 5 times, you can clean it for about 1400 yen per unit.
    The smell and stains of wood and mold have also disappeared, making it very clean.

    Bonjour, vous n'utilisez pas un extracteur ou un aspirateur à copeaux de bois ? parce que vous allez devoir nettoyer votre climatiseur tous les mois à ce rythme non ? Très bonne vidéo comme à votre habitude. Vous devriez peut être ajouté un second filtre à votre climatiseur afin de capter un maximum de particule de bois pour ne pas qu'elle soit aspirée par celui-ci. Un genre de filtre qui couvrirai votre climatiseur (une cage avec un filtre ?) ou de créer une surpression dans votre pièce pour diriger l'aire vers une autre sortie qui possèderai une filtration en installant un ventilateur pour inspirer de l'air dans votre pièce et une sortie d'air sur un endroit opposée l'entrée d'air. Ce principe est utilisée dans les salles d'opération dans les hôpitaux pour éviter que des saletés ne pénètrent à l'intérieur des salles d'opération. Il y a certainement d'autre méthode pour économiser votre climatiseur (en installant à l'extérieur un système d'aspiration silencieux avec des buses d'aspiration au plafon au dessus de vos plans de travail (établi etc..) comme c'est la cas dans les ateliers de soudure pour aspirer la fumée liée au soudure pour les soudeurs. etc... Merci pour le partage de vos connaissances.

      It's an entire industry to itself. Along the same lines of planned obsolescence.

    • @humanspida
      @humanspida Před 4 lety

      Well, any device or machine with intakes and/or exhausts will get dirty and the more moving parts a thing has that uses both intakes and exhausts has, obviously the device becomes more complex to clean and maintain.
      This is just the nature of these kinds of devices.
      It's got nothing to do with, nor is it even similar, to being like planned obsolescence but an unavoidable consequence of having a device that literally pushes and pulls air around. Along with all the particles that float in the air along with it. Planned obsolescence is totally different to having an actual requirement to clean and maintain something that has moving parts like these things do... If you properly maintain and clean these things they will last for years, decades even. That is a FAR cry from planned obsolescence.
      Case in point, would you rather spend 1500 pounds or dollars (or more for one of those large external condenser types), on a new air con unit because yours broke down due there being no industry dedicated to producing products and services to clean and maintain the thing?... Or would you rather have those things and be able to extend the life of the device for a fraction of the cost with cleaning and maintenance? The description states it cost around 1400 yen per unit with multiple uses of the cleaner - that's about 15 or 20 pounds depending on exchange rate. As well as the one time expenditure on the equipment to do so of 7k yen which still isn't even a tenth of the cost to replace the entire unit... Assuming you go for the pro cleaning gear and not just the home/consumer cleaner.
      Don't be silly, of course you want option two.
      Obviously this particular unit is in a workshop so was more difficult to clean than one in someones front room or office (unless perhaps they smoke in the air conditioned room). The level of crap you get on a residential air con unit is far less and takes far less effort to clean but you're still going to need to either use some kind of cleaner yourself or get someone in to do it for you if you're not comfortable dismantling basic to moderately complex machines/devices for maintenance and cleaning.
      To me this looked like a fairly easy and simple cleaning process - just a little time consuming depending on the level of filth, which can be controlled by doing the cleaning more regularly, which in turn will make it easier and faster to accomplish.
      I would hardly call removing a few screws, the fascia, filters and directional plastic parts... covering and taping so you can clean it without then having to clean or repaint the wall "difficult".
      Everyone has their own concept of what difficult is though.

    • @GoatZilla
      @GoatZilla Před 4 lety

      @@humanspida You are conflating the function of a device with its maintainability. This device has a certain function (blowing air over stuff with moving parts) which is orthogonal to its maintainability.
      It boils down more to design. Specifically, the fact that they probably want to leave all the lines in place during cleaning (refrigerant, condensation, electrical) that maybe complicates things. I think they could still solve it if they wanted to.
      Your entire argument about spending $1500 more for a unit because it might not have a industry dedicated to its service precisely supports my point. I was referring to that entire industry when I was making the planned obsolescence analogy.
      Don't put it past manufacturers to deliberately mis-design a product specifically to prop up the support industry around it.

    • @humanspida
      @humanspida Před 4 lety

      @@GoatZilla Fair point I guess, about deliberately under-designing a thing to require certain actions and tasks be performed on it throughout it's lifespan.
      The maintenance and cleaning still isn't dificult, expensive or even that awkward to perfom on these machines though (unless of suficient complexity in larger systems I suppose) and they WILL last a very long time if properly cared for.
      I stand by my assertion that it's not on the same level as planned obsolescence and feel that's a moderately glib interpretation - It's not being updated to affect it's performance, parts are easy to come by for repairs (unless you bought some off brand thing that no ones ever heard of or the company went out of business perhaps), servicefolks are plentiful, and you can even manage to maintain and clean them yourself for the majority of home units with little research & training.
      Your point is well taken though. They certainly could be better designed but not being a refridgeration engineer, I couldn't suggest how.

    • @GoatZilla
      @GoatZilla Před 4 lety

      @@humanspida Servicefolks are plentiful because opportunities are plentiful. Those opportunities are plentiful by design (literally -- it is tied to the overall design). If everyone made units that were easy to self-service, then the servicefolks wouldn't quite be so plentiful now would they? I don't think it's as glib an interpretation as you think. It's a known thing in other industries.
      The difficulty in cleaning this machine was reaching the rear surfaces, essentially. He had to resort to a camera wand to even look back there, much less clean it. Do you own a camera wand?
      Hypothetically, if the thing hinged out or something, it would be easier to reach the rear surfaces. Protecting the surrounding area from overspray and drain wouldn't be as complicated. Hinge out, spray downward straight toward the drain, wipe the backside, done.
      Again I think the design complication is trying not to disturb the hoses (particularly the refrigerant line) during the process.

    自分も今年の夏にエアコン業者に頼むの面倒だから、この動画にも出てくる「くうきれい」をネットで購入して、
    噴霧器高いので百均で加圧噴霧器と霧吹き買って掃除したけど、ハッキリ言って手間考えると損。
    1か所1本じゃ全然汚れ取り切れず二本使ったけど、それだけ買うと1本2000円なので2本4000円。
    頼むならと思ってた「暮らしのマーケット」に出てる業者は最安でも6000円くらいだったから。
    手間以外にも、汚水貯める袋はセットで購入したけど重くなりすぎると落ちたり破れるしで、完璧に養生してないと危ない。
    汚れ結構取れたと思ってもチェックしてるとまだ残ってる事に気付いて終わり見えないし、
    自分の場合は付けて暫くはパラパラ「カピカピに皮状になった汚れ」が落ちてくるから掃除や換気が必要だし。
    特に古いエアコン、大きめのエアコンは大変
