All public transportation should be free in the UK! I am an immigrant who came to UK as an asylee, so now UK and its taxpayers should take care of me. They need to give me unlimited free rides on UK public transportation system. I think there is a law, if you are admitted as an asylee and your case get approved, the government should bare all the expenses of that person.
I think anyone under 6 should not have to pay (but they, or their parents would have to provide id/ proof of age upon request from inspectors). All child single tickets and return should be the same price, regardless of arrival and depature stations (Again they have to be under 16 and have id/ proof of age upon request by inspector). The children should be asked to pay two return tickets, despite where they are travelling to or from, and a verbal warning should be given and notice. Adults however, the prices of their ticket should varey, on length of journey, and where there going to or from. If they are caught without a ticket, if it's their first time they should just pay £100 up front to metrolink staff, and nothing more is done. Second time, they should be fined £1000 and cautioned. Third time the case should go to court and a prison sentence should be given e.g. 6 months to 1 year or like a £10,000 fine. It is totally unfair, that very nice, truthfull, upfront, generous people like me and a lot of others, should have to pay more for are tram tickets; because students just cannot be bothered to pay the maximum of £6.20 for a tram ticket. This means that tram fares have ti be raised, for the buisness needs to gain back revnue they have lost, which in the long run could have awfull effects on the buisness. Where good money could be spent on free tram travel days for all e.g. two long weekends per year, improving standards and security of stations; improving tram tracks and wires; improving and building new lines; buying trams with more seats in; and spending their money on stuff that all the good respectfull passengers deserve. Instead they are pumping lots of cash into funding the disgraceful people who just can't be bothered to buy a monthly, yearly, weekly, return, or single ticket to complete their journeys to school. Hopefully whe we are out of this stupid ressesion, all the idiots who do not pay for their fare, will be locked up, and all the good people like myself will be rewarded for their patiance while Metrolink have to raise prices for the idiots who just can't be bothered to pay for their journey. Fare dodging is theft. It should carry a custodial sentence and fine. Regardless of age, if you are required to pay for a service and dont, then when caught, you should face the consequences. If you can't pay, then walk.
