Almost any track the album Clairvoyant is also great. Specially the title track and Return to Earth
The Contortionist - Flourish for their primarily DEATHCORE side!
The Contortionist - Flourish
Tesseract - Of Matter!
The live studio version ❤️
Bro you are on point with the last few reactions. You gotta do Flourish by them next. Different vocalist but it's the song that really formed what the band would eventually become
True. Or Contact, since that song is a little more accessible.
@@thedarklord6941 and has the sexiest of lead riffs towards the end
I saw the Contortionist and Tesseract at Baltimore Soundstage. Sat with the lead guitarist at the bar for the entire Tesseract set. Super chill guy. He pointed out my Kiesel guitar hoodie which kicked off the convo.
The contortionist got loads of bangers! Return to Earth from their newest album is amazing
Love that one but it makes me cry.
The Contortionist album Clairvoyant is a masterpiece and must be listened from front to back. Language is the same way, and is a masterpiece in it's own right, but man, Clairvoyant is just such a journey.
The Contortionist music is kind of quiet and introspective despite the fact it's heavy and progressive. Pretty unique band, love it!
This was a pleasant surprise!! 😂
Thanks for the shoutout Drew, much appreciated.
I will add that this is generally the first song by The Contortionist I’ll show people but its kind of a primer to see what they are all about. For example, their latest album, Clairvoyant, has basically no screaming on it but their older albums are heavier and more untraditionally structured.
I would recommend you check out the song “Flourish” next. I think that’ll be the song you will truly appreciate what this band can do.
P.S. - saw someone mention you reacting to Tesseract and that should definitely happen asap. “Nocturne”, “Hexes” or “Survival” are great starting songs for Tesseract
Cheers!!
I've given him banger after banger on stream but my picks get no main chanel love 😂😆😘
Drew you should check out Erra! They’re super melodic and extremely fun to listen to. I would start with Skyline, or Orchid. Both are great entry songs to Erra
Dementia, though.
Rivers of nihil- subtle changes progressive death metal
If you enjoy The Contortionist, check out the vocalist's other/former band Last Chance to Reason. Videogame-inspired progressive metal, "Upload Complete" from Level 2 is a good starter I'd say. His vocal range is insane and the music is pretty wild.
Can't go wrong with these guys. Check out Holomovement or Dreaming Schematics.
Nice, thanks for reacting to this. Their first two albums are heavier and feature a different vocalist. I recommend checking out Flourish from their first album. It may take a few listens to fully understand, but has some insane riffs as well as a beautiful middle section.
I heard him say “TheDarkLord69” and thought he was referring to me lol but nope, here you are
Was not expecting The Contortionist on here anytime soon! The Contortionist are phenomenal, I'd recommend checking out Flourish or Oscillator from their debut album if you really want to understand the origins of the band. They may take a few listens to appreciate tho. Also, a song from their last album you should react to is Return to Earth.
My favorite band of all time
Now just check out Integration, Thrive, Primordial Sound, Arise, Ebb & Flow, and The Parable.
Great reaction man. I'm glad that you came to The Contortionist. Now I suggest to react to "Reimagined" from their album "Clairvoyant", one of their coolest songs.
Slugdge- salt thrower
Progressive- melodic death metal
The contortionist- flourish
Hard to recommend a single track, their music is more meant to listen to as a whole
You really do have to listen to a whole contortionist album to get the full experience of the band
Why prog is so precious
Man you're onto the real shit now! This band is incredible.
The Contortionist - Integration
The Contortionist - Feedback Loop
The Contortionist - Flourish
Intronaut - Milk Leg
Haken - The Architect
Black Crown Initiate - The Malignant
Leprous - Rewind
Dude. I’m new to your channel, found it last night and love your analysis of songs. Honestly dude, a band 100% worth checking out is Tesseract. That band alone is what got me into this genre back in 2012. Check them out dude it’s pure brilliance. I’d say listen to Acceptance, or anything of their second album. Cheers mate.
If you want something diferent on prog you should react to Birdproblems-pigeon superstition, that was like the best song of 2020 and that band deserves more atention
this band is one of the best to ever do it. So much attention to detail in the new stuff its unreal.
This era of Contortionist was basically Djent Cynic. Which is a band that you should check out: Cynic.
King of those who know about Cynic, see what i did there :P i'm also gonna suggest Atheist.
Cynic is a really good one. Basically anything from them would be great.
Drew. Check out Monuments: I, The Creator. Just recently got into them. In the same veil as Tessract, Periphery and others. Very good stuff! Love ur vids. 👍
Yessssss
Yep.
I don’t listen to Monuments often, but when I do I’m always blown away. They’re technical wizards.
Monuments are cool, I just wish they were as good at songwriting as they are at riff writing. Like, they cant even touch Tesseract when it comes to songwriting and emotion.
@@irockmajorly I definitely agree with this. I listen to Monuments when running quite often because the riffs are just so energetic and invigorating but when I want an EXPERIENCE, I listen to TesseracT.
New to the channel. The Contortionist is a legendary band. I recommend you check out Sleep Token.
YEEEEESSASSAASSSAAASAASAAS THANK YOU IVE ASKED FOR THIS FOR LIKE 2 YEARSAHAMDHDH
Power Trip - Divine Apprehension
Power Trip - Hornet’s Nest
Power Trip - Crucifixation
Great band. They have two albums released with this singer and two with the previous singer
Nice!! These guys and Haken were opening for Devin Townsend by me... Just before covid hit 😕 Inspired me to deep dive these guys songs.
Reimagined is short and sweet, Clairvoyant is a banger.
You should really check out Car Bomb! Very experimental and insanely brutal and proggy af
Black Blood is the perfect opener!
Lower the Blade is amazing too
Contortionist before Tesseract? Odd.. but I'm so game :p saw contortionist open for Tess live 🤓
Shock, some of us might even prefer The Contortionist to Tesseract :)
@@Nondescript_Brit haha that's not really what I was getting at, just sometimes you'd figure a band is more known so would likely come sooner.
@@paravarium is tesseract that much bigger though?
Thanks for showing me more great music ! gotta keep recomending Haken tho and Messiah Complex might be the best song of the year so you gotta check it out man
I couldnt stop listening to this band for months when I first heard language 1 and 2
You should check out either Reimagined or Early Grave by them!
Dude! Loved this reaction! You need to check out Early Grave by these guys next. Truly deep song and its saved me from myself many times. I feel like you will enjoy it more as i think it gives you a more unique sound and completely different look from their usual heavy prog rock sound. I am much more captivated by their recent work in Clairvoyant LP, and their Our Bones EP! Much love! 🤙🏻
Amon Amarth - War of the Gods
Amon Amarth - Free Will Sacrifice
Amon Amarth - Valhall Awaits Me
Time, the Valuator - Starseeker!
You're gettin all the good songs in all at once! Its like there was a kink in the hose and it got fixed haha
Fuck. I miss live shows so much. These two songs played live is an experience, to say the least
you should give their newer album "Clairvoyant' a listen, also check out The Safety Fire- Yellowism; The band broke up but they were on the same caliber as tesseract, periphery ect
I love you Drew.
Now check out VESSEL by the contortionist :D seriously, the more you listen to these guys, the better they are, ESPECIALLY after you see them live.
You REALLY should watch live videos of these guys. I’ve seen them about 7x now, they get better every time I see them. Best live band I’ve ever seen
Havn’t seen the video yet but if you end up liking it you’ll like tesseract too
Also - if you havn’t heard Garden in Bones by periphery you’d love that
Picked up this album as well as their album Clairvoyant last year. Glad they don't have the strange vocal combination all the time.
Monochrome (Pensive) is amazing bu5 they have a lot of amazing ones.
Oh god i been waiting for this reaction for years!!!
check out Absolve
The entire Language album is definitely worth listening to. All of their albums are, really. Amazing band 🔥
Completely new to this band, and never heard of the lads till now. Not bad all all, man. Some passages in there that have the same vibes and sounds as downtuned proggy metal out there. Which, seeing that its all linked to the same scene is totally understandable. Pretty Good stuff. The intro reminded me a lil bit of some Animals as Leaders. Their clean tone passages have that same style, before things go nuts. Cool , new band to perhaps come back to again. Thanks for the upload.
I've never clicked watch and like so fast in any video. This song puts you on a journey and they put on an awesome live performance.
Flourish and Oscillator! Exoplanet is one of the greatest metal albums in recent memory for me. React to the whole album to be honest.
conspire is so dope
i remember seing them live in Denmark a few years ago :) went to see Periphery and this band simply blew my mind :)
Hey Drew, I think you should check out Plini. He's a guitarist from Australia. He just came out with a new album recently and it kicks ass. Don't let it being instrumental throw you off - his music is legend.
Glad you like it! My favorite from this guys is Monochrome (Pensive), that's a journey
How about some progressive thrash metal?????
Vektor- recharging the void
The Contortionist was primarily a deathcore band before this album, and since this album, has primarily been a spacey/shoegazey prog rock band. This album fairly literally marks their transition, as it really marked their move towards that predominantly prog rock sound, but still has those deathcore bits as well. Their next album after this one ditches that metal sound almost completely, and goes straight prog rock.
You were wondering what set this band apart from other prog juggernauts when you were listening to the first part of the first song. For me, I love the atmospheric/spacey aesthetic of their music. I think their take on the soft/smooth post-rock sound is unique and interesting. When I first listened to this album, I was instantly hooked on this sound, and just couldn't find anything else that scratched the same itch for me.
this album is incredible. tesseract is one of my favs too.
Another band that forced my drumming to another level. Joey Baca is so tasteful at displacement and gets so damn groovy
Return to earth
Try out the Rediscovered version, it's basically an acoustic version of part I but with the ending of part II and has a very different vibe to it.
I didn't know this band before. And it's surprisingly good. It appeals to me very much.
If you like this, I would recommend checking out the rest of this album. Or their first album Exoplanet, if you want something heavier.
@@thedarklord6941 I listened to their whole album already. I need to come back to it tho
@@darkdeceptionkillsthelight9653 Yeah, it takes a few listens to get into it. My favorite song off the album is The Parable
I’m sure many people will say listen to Flourish by The Contortionist. And I will also jump on that bandwagon. They bring the heavy.
hope you get back into this band sometime
nice pick! this album is really best consumed as a whole. it gets better with each listen. always finding something new. I like the follow-up (Clairvoyant) even better, but there is no growly screamy stuff. ALSO, someone earlier suggested Monuments, which is a just a great idea. I, The Creator is a great starting point.
Check out Thrive! Same album, awesome stuff. Or the title-track from Clairovoyant!
Love the Contortionists, very talented band!
And sorry for the spam, still gonna try to request "Fractalize - Sun Eater" :D
Btw, is it possible to pay for a reaction video on your Patreon or something? Asking for a friend.
Have you done Tesseract yet? Maybe I missed it. You should do Tesseract.
dude react to Plini - Papermoon if you want to listen somenthing epic and very unique, also great reactiong as always
Should just listen to a full album hahah they are great, picking one song is just hard
I would recommend you listen to Wilderun - Far from where dreams unfurl. It’s a band that is not yet widely recognised (at least not where I’m from) but surely deserves to be. Consider them the new “old Opeth” mixed with Devin Townsend and a lot of folky elements. Help shed some light on notable artists outside the regular big name recommendations and cheers m8!
You should check cafo by animals as leaders! (amazing guitar skills)
Return to earth return to earth RETURN TO EARTH!!!!!!
Listen to Abiotic and Last Chance to Reason.
Hey drew, Mike from colombia, react ebb & flow from that same album... Awesome song.
Please do more Contortionist/Periphery and try Tesseract
Drew, to differentiate, try Organic Hard Drive by Lucid Planet! Please.
React : white noise by Beyond deviation !
Wake & Bake Drew 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 Afternoon brother . Love The Contortionist
Dude. Oceansize. They were from Manchester.
Try Sunn o))) - Between Sleipnir’s Breaths
They're twins
You should check out some Humanity’s Last Breath.
Cam seems a bit framey there m8, might have gotten bumped down below 30fps somehow.
My friend! It’s time to react to Metropolis pt.1 by Dream Theater! I keep on nagging you with comments about this song, but for a good reason! Please do it! All your Dream Theater fans will be very very pleased💯🤘
Definitely not a one trick pony. Exoplanet is a great album, especially when in the gym lol
It is not prog rock, it is prog metal.
Geocentric Confusion
Pick scrapes
Cortical, Axiom and Oscillator are best from these guys imho. I don't like Flourish as much as these three
