Just an FYI, that wire plug that is snapped into the bezel is the wiring harness pigtail for 4 wheel drive models which have the selector switch located there
To enlarge the dash so that the double din head unit fits, use an ossilating power tool with a plunge cutting blade for the top 1/4" and the 60 grit sanding triangle attachment for the lower plastic lip. Its easy and takes less than 20 minutes and is MUCH cleaner
Brazing rod works well for pulling the stock radio out if you dont have that tool,iv tired a metal coat hanger before too but i had no luck i figured out it wasn't thick enough but heard that it would work
just did this year truck had to trim housing and cover panel did not need the trim pieces that came with the kit fits very nice i used airsaw and die grinder with rotary files ..installed a kenwood double din
You have two sets of wires. You showed crimping the one set but never showed what you did with the other. I'm confused because I don't know what to do with the other set
Jw Lin the truck had two wire harnesses but only one harness is used because that one contained the power, ground and the speaker wires. On the work bench you saw the Metra harness and the radio harness I put together with crimp camps. The Metra harness is the side that plugs into the harness in the truck.
when you get the aftermarket harness for the vehicle, the aftermarket stereo harness wires into that (virtually same color to same color), if its a stereo. if its a screen or if you have a backup camera, then there is alot more work involved and you have to locate the wires that you have to tap into ( alot more difficult here) especially if you have never done this type of work before.
For a backup camera splice the red and black wires from the camera into the harness red and black.... On the drivers side remove the lower kick panel and splice your camera wire from the harness into the black wire that has a purple stripe on it....
I have the same model truck and same harnesses and same trim everything yet my radio doesn't turn on I'm a first time installing do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong
John Doe if you used the harness to wire up the new radio I don't see why the radio would not turn on. The only thing I can think of is that if you had a previous stock radio and it stopped working I would start by checking the fuses at the fuse panel first. Also, check your wire harness and make sure the red, yellow and black wires are making a solid connection the wire harness. If you have a dmm you can check for power at the wire harness just to make sure you have power at the wire harness
So I have a f150 2001.. I'm trying to put a single in.. but there is this black cord that goes in the back? Not the antenna. A different cord, and idk what it is. Can anyone help me? There is an area for a cord like that to go but it doesnt have the right slots. Like it's the perfect place for it to go just it's the wrong holes inside the cord. Anyone know what I'm talking about or do I sound crazy?
you just drind it down to the line he made using what ever tools you have avail. air saw, air pencil, or dremill tool, then file it as straight as you can. the trim covers up most of the cuts you make, so it doenst have to be perfect. the bottom is the most important part and has to be flush (flat), so radio will sit straight.
It's a cosmetic Metra brand dash kit. It really doesn't support the radio it's just a cosmetic trim kit to cover any remaining gaps from the front of the radio. Visit www.metraonline.com and use their application chart so you can find the model number because I don't know it by heart.
Great video, thank you! 2002 is exact same. Really helped me be sure where to cut!

Best video I’ve seen explaining

It will take a bit longer, but you could actually use a razor blade knife... The plastic you need to cut is not very thick..
Max this is a very good video. I am about to do the same thing to my daughter's 2002 F 150
Brazing rod works well for pulling the stock radio out if you dont have that tool,iv tired a metal coat hanger before too but i had no luck i figured out it wasn't thick enough but heard that it would work
This helped A LOT!

good work.
You don't need the ford keys....use a coathanger. Saves $$
I didn't know Jordan Peterson also do diy😮 lol. Thanks for the video
So I have same set up took out old stereo has to harness ends like yours so we don't use the long skinny one just use big square one I'm lost
You sound like jordan Peterson. Didn’t know he likes tenth gen f-150s
My radio in my 2003 f150 quit working last year, the clock only works when the headlights are on

John Doe are you referring to your stock head unit or aftermarket unit?
Max Hertz I'm installing the same unit as in your vedio a Sony wax-900bt

Max Hertz ok thanks man I'll try and see what do you recommend to cut out the upper piece of the trim after removing the factory radio
Max Hertz where did this guy connect the ground? I'm confused because the radio I got has a big ground wire but no one connects theirs to metal??
what tool did you use for the cutting?
I used an air saw.
Max Hertz Thanks! you vid helped a lot. I was able to install my radio and saved a couple of hundred $$$. thanks!

Use a wiring harness
Booooo! You didn't show the most important part. We want to see how you made the cuts.

This is really an easy mod for the f150... It might look a little complicated... But its really not...
What kit are you using to frame it
It's a cosmetic Metra brand dash kit. It really doesn't support the radio it's just a cosmetic trim kit to cover any remaining gaps from the front of the radio. Visit www.metraonline.com and use their application chart so you can find the model number because I don't know it by heart.
Appreciate it, I was looking to get one more or less for a guide to grinding out the old radio bay
+Joshua Tronnier yeah that will help you as a guide
