  • I got the chance to have a wonderful chat with Al Lowe about the early days of his game development career, and the early years at Sierra.
I was excited to chat with him about some of my favorite games: King's Quest 3 and The Black Cauldron.

King's Quest 3 was next level! KQ1 and KQ2 were casual romps, but KQ3 was the real deal!

Black Cauldron and Kings Quest III were the first two Sierra games I ever played, I think. Had both on our family's Amiga. KQIII caused me so much stress because I was maybe 4-5 years old and pretty much had to learn how to type (better) to play that game.
I remember finally getting out of that wizard's house and finally making it down that winding mountain path without falling and then some bandits rushed out to rob me... "DAAAAD!! Type 'kill the robbers!' quick!!!!"

A legend in the gaming industry. Without him I do not believe comedic adventure games exist today. I remember first started playing LSL land of the lounge Lizzard when I was a senior in highschool. Didnt played it back in 87 because I was way too young and back then you have to have $3000 to own a computer. I am 40 now. Back in late 90's the internet was booming so ofcourse as a gamer I wanted to find PC games and I noticed this "perverted" game that makea fun of being "perverted". I am not a pervert. I dont play video games to jack off to. I just love comedy so i gave LSL a try and boy it changed my views of point and click adventure games. I always thought P & C games are boring but since LSL it changed my views. I like all kinds of games since I am a hardcore gamer and to me LSL is a breath of fresh air. The new LSL game was great. Wet Dreams Dry and Dry twice. Too bad Al Lowe wasnt involved in it but it was obvious they made a tribute to Al.

BC was such a wonderful game. I was teaching English in Russia and played it with a bright 8-year-old student. Was so fun, engaging, and even educational. (Although I still wonder why there are rocks in the pond that lead to nowhere. I guess it gives us a safe way to learn the technique for when we encounter it again.)

There's a way to make the rocks reveal a way in to the Fair Folk's cave if you don't have the password.
I guess that's what you do if you never save Hen Wen the pig and therefore don't get the password?
I might be wrong about the reason why, but you can I think make the final rock drop out and you fall down into the cave from the hole it leaves. I don't know why the cave isn't flooded with water but I guess they have magic.
