One of the best performances ever filmed.
Absolutely
@François Gaspard Interesting. I could tell it was edited from different takes. Still sounds amazing though.
The greatest imo
Great choice from a movie you should watch in total even if you don't react to it. Props to the requestor.
It was definitely awesome
It was a concert but turned out to be the celebration of the great band! Canadian heroes except levon who was from Arkansas but was a honary Canadian :)
Van is a Soul Assassin. From having to be pushed onto stage to High-Kicking his way off!
Have to say this is the best reaction i've encountered to this wonderful performance.
You guys get Van
Robbie Robertson on guitar. Van was cranking out r&b hits with the Them in the early 60s as a teenager.
Nice
@@SightAfterDark Nice was Keith Emerson's first band 😉
Van the Man! Oh Yeah! That Irish Soul! Robbie Robertson is that guy. Yeah Martin did direct this masterpiece.
Shoutout to Marty
Van the Man, showing out and making it real! I love this performance and this film!
This masterpiece by Scorsese should be mandatory viewing by all seniors in high school so they enter the adult world with some core knowledge of what music is, this is THE best concert EVER, it was a symbolic end of an era in that generation of music, the level of talent that was assembled on that stage will never be equaled.
Beautifully said Rod! Thanks!
Best performance on 'The Last Waltz'. Exceptionally gifted artist.
We agree, so moving!
"It Makes No Difference" called and would like to take exception with your ranking. Van is certainly gifted, and this performance is wonderful, for sure. Rick's vocals on It Makes No Difference are otherworldly.
Awesome! From 1978. A timeless show. Van on fire. Still going. One of the biggest contributions to music ever. Long may he continue.
Thanks for watching Diane! He was definitely on FIRE!
I grew up near San Francisco in the early '70s, and of course Van lived nearby. He was notorious for scheduling shows and cancelling them, and being a jerk generally. He did a wonderful show that was broadcast over the San Francisco radio station KSAN, which they excerpted endlessly thereafter. Come the internet, you could not find this show, because, as soon as someone posted it, Van would get it deleted. To this day, his reputation is as a genius singer and an asshole. Good going, dude.
holy smokes, It Makes No Difference, by the band, same consert, great song.
That horn section, my GOD!
If you are just discovering this musical icon, have a listen to some of his albums from the 1980-90s. Some of the best song you’ve likely never heard. And there’s a whole bunch of gems you’ll find in the many records he’s produced in this century.
Other highlights from the Last Waltz - the Weight with the Staples Singers, Neil Young doing Helpless with Joni Mitchell, Dr. John doing Such a Night... Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan.... The whole movie is highlights.
Sounds amazing!
Don't forget Joni singing Coyote.
And a surprisingly great performance from Neil Diamond.
@@ChadWiggin Neil wasn't hip but he was cool.
@@ChadWiggin One of his biggest albums was a live album. He's a great performer.
What a great voice and all around white bluesy presence! I’ve been listening to him since Gloria. Thanks.
Van the Man! He has one of the most powerful voices in rock. And a very deep catalog. I recommend his Brown-Eyed Girl. I think it was his first hit.
Sometimes a song and performance hits you right in the sweet spot. Turn it up , little higher, radio!
Astral Weeks was my favourite LP by Van. Thanks for this. Y'all da bomb.
Thanks for watching Willieboy!
Van Morrison is the greatest singer songwriter of all time.. His lyrics are poetry and second to none.. He was originally a saxophone player in a band called Them before he became a frontman..
If you are just now finding Van the man, you are gonna be blown away when you find his stuff. His cover of Lonely Avenue is a masterpiece. IMO
There are some great performances in this film, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Emmylou Harris, The Staples, Dr. John and climaxing with Bob Dylan.
I'm a huge Van Morrison fan, been listening to him a lot lately. At his best he taps into some spiritual place and channels something extra. I love all his albums from the '70s and '80s. "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher" is my favorite album of his, not a bad song on it.
Van is amazing!
Into the Mystic is one of my favorite songs ever made by anyone.
I loved that album, although I haven't listened to it for 20 plus years I do remember loving it and my favourite song? "In the garden" obviously
Astral Weeks (1969) is still timeless and astonishing.
@@kesleycottrell1416 ❤
The greatest moment of the greatest concert film. "Van the MAN" indeed. The story is he had such stage fright, his manager had to literally kick him out there...lol.
It's full of unforgettable performances: Dr. John doing "Such a Night"; Joni Mitchell with "Coyote".
Sometimes you just need a good kick!
Love Van Morrison! Thanks, guys!
Thanks for watching Victoria!
You nailed it when you said he’s lived his song experiences. That’s how he can convey so much emotion in his voice- because he’s put in the work and lived the life of a true artist. Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues!
Truth!
Nothing beats Van the man all 5'5 of him, rocking his purple outfit and throwing kicks.
Also , the band THEM were a rock group formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in April 1964, most prominently known for the rock standard "Gloria" and launching singer Van Morrison's musical career. The original five-member band consisted of Morrison, Alan Henderson, Ronnie Milling, Billy Harrison and Eric Wrixon. A few years later Morrison went solo.
G-L-O-R-I-A!
“Some people just have something inside them …” Yeah, I be thinkin Van may have swallowed a tenor saxophone sometime way back when … One of a kind. Van the Man❤
Belfast Cowboy in prime form here. Voice sounds amazing and The Band is killing it.
Born with a voice, you nailed that.
Not only does Van "have something inside him", but also has decades of experiance, and work.
And something inside him.
It's the lion inside of him which gives him the voice! Grrr-owww!
You probably know this by now but this is the Bands farewell performance. Van Morrison is not part of The Band. They had a ton of guest sungers. Robbie Robertson’s reaction while playing is awesome. Especially when Van just drops the mic and walks off stage. Van the Man. Phenomenal
at that same concert, The Last Waltz, Dylan does a killer version of the song he wrote for his son and the Band joined in. Yes, Scorcese, the Dylan song, sang with the Band is the killer of that show, Forever :Young.
Supposedly this was the first time Van Morrison performed in like 5 years and his manager had to literally push him out on stage. That's why he rushed off at the end.
Love it!
A major recommendation: view the entire film The Last Waltz. It truly is a must experience.
For me this Van Morrison was something i've never gotten tired of! The first part "It's all in the game" is an old cover, the 2nd part "You know what they're writing about" Is his, but an extension of the first part! It's pretty damn haunting, and soulful at the same time... czcams.com/video/OsMtsEr_wGE/video.html
Van the man from Ireland. Another great artist from the late 60's and early 70's. He like the guy's may be a little high. This was the band's last concert.
They’re the best!
That crazy familiar guy is Robbie Robertson, lead guitarist, & head writer of the Band's songs. Also a Fist Nations man from Canada...... U should see the video done w/ him, "the Weight", as part of the Playing for Change catalog; on a par w/ the Band singing w/ the goddess, Mavis , her sisters & Pops; the Staples Singers........
That’s Robbie Robertson cofounder of The Band
As a musician, I need to thank you for appreciating music verbally. This new reaction thing is so wonderful, we never get the feedback we are looking for from friends and family and business partners or associates. Your true feelings off the top of your head, done without overthinking it, on the fly is what we crave, true expression thet we stunted screw ups can't illiterate with words. Thanks Beautiful People! I am a good typer, I wish I was a good speaker, and NOBODY CAN DO VAN THE MAN! He is possibly one of the most unique voices of the generation. 👊🏻👨🏻🏭💥🇨🇦
VAN IS THE BEST! Thanks so much for watching!
He was in school, the school master was asking what they were going to be when they grow up. When he asked master van, he said, a singer. Okay let's hear you sing..he sang don't be cruel.
Can’t think of any modern artists who could pull this song off.
I can't believe you don't know Robbie Robertson from The Band!! This is the kind of music I grew up listening to.. I'm 61 now.. and I remember buying the album "The Last Waltz" when I was living in Beirut during the war in the 70's.. if any one here knows what an LP is :) Anyway, great song. Cheers from Egypt.
haha we have a few LPs ourselves! Hope you're doing well. Cheers from NYC!
Yes, its a Scorsese film and landmark concert bidding farewell to Jamie Robbie Robertson on guitar she asked about. He is a Mohawk and Jewish writer of The Band. Garth Hudson on keyboards; Richard Manuel on piano; Rick Danko on bass with my favorite, Leon Helm on drums. They're song The Weight, is featured in a film titled Easy Rider with Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper, directing. Van Morrison is an icon and legend of late 60s early 70s R&B, rock and jazz.
Legends all around!
Scorcese edited out Van's version of Irish Lullaby. Amazing song from the show which should have been in the final cut.
Damn Scorsese!!!
This from The Last Waltz. That's Robbie and Rick on bass(R.I.P. Rick Danko). Levon Helms on drums This was a great version. Just love the song. It's got soul.
Yes MS directed the movie.
It's probably the record company doing the blocking, Sifa.
Haha we know its probably the record company. It's just fun to joke about :) Thanks for watching Steven!
He was drunk, thats why he was floating ... I always loved the mic drop and the walk off. He was hammered.
Van Morrison on vocals; for yourselves, listen to his albums, Astral Weeks, Moondance, Veedon Fleece, etc. Cheers and thanks to you two !!
We've heard Moondance, and it is Fantastic! We definitely need more Van in our lives. Thanks David!
Veedon Fleece the most underrated album of all time. Masterpiece in every sense of the word.
I saw this performance year's ago when I was like 18yrs of age sitting with my grandad watching the last waltz having a few whiskeys jamming to this boss am 36 now my grandad passed away 5yrs now & it always take me back legendary.
Sorry to hear about your grandad, but happy you have these memories with him! Van is a legend
It was directed by Scorsese. If you you remember the scene in Goodfellas when they do the tracking shot through the restaurant. Well, check out 4:25.
FYI: And this is not only my humble opinion,it is considered the best Rock music movie ever made, you need to check out the talent that is on that movie, also The Band are in a league of their own as well as Van the Man who is a musical genius...... So much talent it would take you guys forever to get through itheir catalogues.
Amazing all around!
Vann the man is a living legend
Thank you for doing this song. What a performance by "Van the Man" -- just stunning. I watch a ton of music reaction videos and you are THE FIRST I've seen do this song.
Thanks for watching! Van is amazing, we're so glad we did this video. Stay well!
Van was drunk as a skunk, sitting in the bar waiting for his turn. You can see him stumble off stage at the end :)
The Last Waltz for my money is the best rock documentary, do yourself a favor and listen/watch to the whole concert. Martin Scorsese was the producer and the quality shows. From backing Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Bob Dylan to their own solo career, they were amazing and I thank God I saw them live.
Awesome that you got to see them love! Looking forward to seeing more of this film!
Scorsese directed the documentary.
@@SuperWhofan1 Thanks for the info.
Everytime im drunk and i leave a room, i pretend to be van morrison at the last waltz . The best part of this video is still the lady reaction when she asked who is the guitar player and her mate answer : he is from the band . LMAO
Van Morrison had been recording/performing professionally at this stage for over 10 years. He already sounded like this as a teenager. He had the VIBE early.
He just has it!
The Last Waltz. Great movie to get lost in. Great music. Directed by Scorsese
That was Robbie Robertson you were asking about. I think he's the only member of "The Band" still alive. Vann is really something. Same for The Band.
Yes all around!
More Van. Please. Anything. Some of my faves, Full Force Gale, I Shall Sing, Have I Told You Lately, Into the Mystic. He's so prolific and diverse you could just do a Van Channel.
You guys check out the best selections. Love this track from this great concert movie!
Thanks Dave! Big shoutout to our Patrons for choosing what we react to!
Van the dancer, lol. Yeah, The Band called a bunch of their friends to come and play and Scorsese put it on film. Lots of great reminiscences in between lots of great music. Oh, and He is Robbie Robertson who has also appeared in some and I'm sure written for other Scorsese movies.
Shout out to Robbie!
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes remembering watching Van the Man performing this with my now ex-husband and reveling in how good this was. The was front man for The Band Robbie Robertson saying Van the Man. This is a Scorcese directed movie about the Band's last peformance.
Yes, Scorsese directed it - though it was really mainly film of a concert. Greatest rock and roll film of all time.
Hell yeah!
unbridled joy
:)
Thx! Great reaction! I’m sure you’ve heard his other songs. Shame that they get blocked! I love being able to share by seeing your reactions to the music! That’s how we did it in the olden days! Friends would go over with the latest record and see what each other thought! I guess they gotta pay for their mansions and yachts! Good work and thx! -Terry
Haha thanks for watching! We appreciate you! We tried to react to the whole Moondance album once and they blocked every single song!
Another number from......
The Last Waltz.....
Van " The Man" ✌😎
Best concert ever... a must watch !
Fantastic performance!
Love Van!! So much passion and confidence.
Now, concert movies - I would argue there are only 2 really great concert films. You've already done one - Stop Making Sense. The Last Waltz is the other one. (And you are correct about Scorsese directing) Like several others have said, you'd definitely love the entire concert/film and all the guest stars!
If this is any indication, we're sure it's great!
One of my all time favourites from the greatest era, another of the greatest, Van doing his thing in the most brilliant Rock Movie.
He’s absolutely doing his thing!
my favorite Van Morrison story is when Bill Clinton was president, he was at a Van show and secret service came at intermission and told him Bill was in the audience and would love to come play sax with him and Van said "is he a trained sax player?? well then tell him to sit back down". imagine being one of those agents having to tell him that
😆
Sir Van Morrison!
Van is the Man👍🏻
In his day he was one of the most soul performers ! So many great tunes with such feelings.
Thanks Cindy, hopefully we get some more suggestions of this from the Patreon! Thanks for watching!
Right at 4:10 you can see Van and Robbie Robertson make a soul-connection, really listening to one another.
This is when Scorsese and Robbie Robertson became best friends. Robbie has been Scorsese’s music director on every one of his films since then
Thanks for the info!
That guitarist is Robbie Robertson from The Band
The Last Waltz. Great movie.
Great performance by Van!
The best! Thanks for watching Victoria!
Who's hẹ? That's Robbie Robertson killing it...lead guitarist of the Band . Scorsese directed their last concert on Thanksgiving 1976 in Winterland. Van Morrison a legend from Ireland and friends with the Band. There were many guest players that night. Worth watching
Van the man ... at the end I think he's imitating Elvis then the mic drop. I love Van. Went to Belfast just to breath his air.
What an amazing performer
The lead guitarist is Robbie Robinson.
I’ve been asking the reactors I follow to review this for bout a year n half. So far ur the first ones to do it.
Kudos!
Yes. Directed by Scorsese. One of three bout rock n roll. All with Dylan in it. This, No Direction Home, Rolling Thunder Revue
Thanks for watching Perry! We appreciate you!
Van the Man...one of the great singer song writes during era of music! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 you guys have to watch this film. Yes it was directed by the guys name I can’t spell 😂 it’s a gift from God!
Haha we’ve heard that guy who’s name you can’t spell is pretty good 😂 Van is pretty good too 😉
Love his kicks at the end
First time I saw Van the Man, I said to myself, "who's this Barney Rubble lookin' MOFO ? The mystery guy asked about, is Robbie Robertson, writer of most band songs. Maybe you saw him on CZcams singing "The Weight" (on it's 50th + ?) anniversary, w/ a plethora of world musicians..... major Goose Bumps !!!
Lollll Barney Rubble lookin’ 🤣
one of my favourite performances from " The Last Waltz". that show saw one of the greatest collections of talent mine eyes have ever witnessed!!!!
that is worth a watch even on your own but regardless you would be doing yourself a disservice if ya don't. Cheers great pic!
Definitely hooked after seeing this. Thanks for watching!
Martin Scorsese and Robbie Dobertson lived together when their wivesdevorced tgem..
Lst wltz is one of the best concert movies of all time.
Fobie Dobertson 🤔?
@@michaelkeefe8494
Caberbernet Sauvignon....
Martin Scorsese showed his love for Van Morrison again by using the song TB Sheets in his movie Bringing Out The Dead
I doubt there's ever been a more appropriate song to help set the mood of a movie.
You both have to do this whole movie it is so so good love you
Some day!
Van the Man!
"He's in The Band..." precious. That was Robbie Robertson. Morrison has a vast discography, some gems and some rocks. I love his live record, "Too Late to Stop Now" -- check that out when you find yourself in the mood. That Irishman does some serious R&B/Soul singing. I hear so many stories about him that make him sound totally unsavory, too though... it's hard to reconcile the sensitivity of the musician with certain kinds of boorishness. But I suppose celebrity brings pressures I'll never know.
Haha yeah, we've heard he can be a lot to handle. He makes up for it with the music!
You guys should watch the whole movie!
Don't know if this is true. But I've heard that Van hadn't (for different reasons) done a live performance for quite some time and was reluctant/nervous and they more or less had to persuade him. If this is true. Go out and do this??? And the mic-drop and the rest of the guys. ''Where the h*ll did he go?''. I've always loved him. Thanks for this. Made my day.
Always loved Van Morrison.
Such a talent
That’s Robbie Robertson on guitar. Check out Neil Young’s performance from this as well
definitely watch last waltz start to finish. Should be included in a contemporary music appreciation class.
Thanks Robert!
Was waiting for Van to come on at a Irish festival in NY in 1998 and he canceled because it started raining.
That's a damn shame
@@SightAfterDark Sinead O'Connor had no problem with the rain, she finished the show with a bang.
Other great performances from the Last Waltz if you want to take a look
Muddy Waters: Mannish Boy
Dr John: Such a night
The Band ( well anything by them but specifically It Makes No Difference “ “ Don’t do it “ “ Up on cripple creek”)
Bob Dylan : Forever young
Neil Diamond : Dry your eyes
Those are some of my favourites . I’m sure other commenters will jump in. Love your channel . Just subscribed 😊
You can't go wrong with any of these great performances!! You need to react to the whole movie.
Thanks so much! We appreciate you watching!
Hopefully the full movie will be suggested by our Patrons soon!
It's called singing it like you've lived it.
Van lives it!
With Van Morrison is it partly God given talent, but also his father was a huge fan of soul music and R&B, which at the time was kind of unusual for a man his age in Belfast, Ireland. So Van grew up listening to his Dad's records, finding his voice listening to the likes of Ray Charles and Solomon Burke, in addition to having God given pipes :)
Cool info, thanks Ed!
