Van has breathed in music since he was born and has breathed out his own for 50+ years. A master extraordinaire in all facets of music and composure. It's a true blessing and wonder to appreciate him and his career especially in his late years.
Hi Dr Steve i was just browsing some of the great mans music videos and just spotted your lovely comment about Van the man i have to fully agree with you he is a true musical GENIUS a brilliant story teller and poet his songs are true CLASSICS there are so many wonderful song writers who can express themselves in there songs plus playing an instrument but what Van has ahead of all of them he can go way beyond that and also play three of the most difficult instruments to master the Saxophone Electric Guitar and the harmonica and play them all in his songs and i know how difficult it is to play the saxophone because i play it myself , Kind Regards Alan in Ireland
Alan from Ireland, you are very lucky to live in the same country as Van. He has changed my entire musical ear since indulging in everything Van beginning only two years ago. I regret (deeply) not discovering him in the early 80s when I was in high school. I got to see him in Las Vegas in 2016. Great concert. I flew from Chicago where I live to NY City to see him at Forest Hills a few months earlier but missed the concert. Long story, but it crushed me to miss that concert when i had 7th row seats! I want to see him again but in a more smaller venue, where it's more of his liking and style. I just wish he'd come to Chicago. Thank you for your comment. Van hypnotises us with his lyrics and melodies and even the tones of his vocals. Life's great enjoyment is playing catch up with his career from the sixties until now. I am constantly in discovery mode with him and all his great band members over the decades. And he plays piano and I believe I saw him on a drum kit in an old video. If yo study his music, many lines are from great artists' lyrics he admires or quotes from people. Then he throws in the abstract from conscious streaming. His music can be studied like coursework. Just incredible. Also, we have to give great credit to his current band who has been with him for so long now. Paul and the guys and his wonderful dame (she's from the US) backup singer....all so good. Thanks Allen God Bless.
I'm 44 and been listening to him since my early 20's and I'm still playing catch up and in constant discovery mode with his music. He's gotten me through some hard times and good times. I was listening to the album Common One non-stop while serving in the military in Saudi Arabia and that album helped get me through that ordeal. He truly is one of the Masters.

Mad credit to the backup singer because we all know how Van loves to vocally riff when he sings. She often keeps her eyes on him for cues as to where he's going and when. I've watched this video almost as much as I've listened to the song on the album. LOVE.

So I came to this live version with trepidation -- too often, the artistry in the studio doesn't survive the stage. I needn't have worried. This is stunning.
