This boy. He’s not at all intimidated by more advanced books. He examined it with confidence, and decided that he can handle it. And I know that he will.
One of the benefits of his dinosaur knowledge is that he clearly pronounces 4+ syllable words that are advanced for his age. So yeah, makes sense that he’s a confident little reader, and will soon be able to tackle advanced books.
I appreciate how carefully you both chose your words when guiding Kobe to books on his reading level. Sandy said “access”, knowing that word is above his comprehension.
You’re careful never to diminish his esteem, while encouraging leadership and decision-making (clarity on his “needs” vs. wants).

If you haven’t already, please get a library card for Kobe. As a lifelong bookworm, for me it started when my father took us to the library and got us each cards. The joy I found in the library, is the same for Kobe in the book store.

One of my favorite children's books is "Where The Wild Things Are" which was on the shelf. I also like "The Little Engine That Could" and "Pinocchio" which are all appropriate books for boys. Dad, if you don't have patience to let Kobe explore the store, take him at another time , for example during story time. Kobe loves dinesores. There is a list of the medal winning books for children such as the Caldecot books. Ask your local librarian or go on line for a list. Good job parents.
