@@Jrhoney at 1000 lumens I would blind myself when it lights up a wall in front of me. I never thought we would see drastic changes in the M4/AR15 configuration of stocks, lights, lasers (mawl), integrated rail systems, grips, slings, optics, even suppressors and gas piston systems.
How does this compare to the Stiener forearm? They are built to be used with a suppressor. The light hangs slightly lower as a result. They also sell a laser that goes in the charging tube.
This light/handguard has two screws protruding in the hand guard which can scratch your barrel if not careful when taking on and off this hand guard. I just covered them with high-temp resistant tape.
Nice setup, especially coupled with the can. Can you tell me which do you find more comfortable to use - the right side or left side switch? I'm probably getting an X400 Ultra with the XT07 switch instead of a dedicated MP5 handguard (it costs less than the dedicated MP5 handguards, has twice the lumen output and a laser to boot, and I find it a bit more aesthetically pleasing... not to mention the dedicated handguards are a massive pain to get where I live, and lasers have been just recently made legal to use with firearms, so I'm getting one just for the hell of it)... but I'm deciding whether to put the rail switch at 3 or 9 o' clock. The X400 will take up a bit of space near the front, so I can't decide which will work better, and I'm afraid at 3' I would end up squeezing and releasing the switch unconsciously.
I like using the two button setup because I'm left handed so my right hand index and middle fingers end up very close to those buttons naturally. However, the momentary pressure switch can be activated with my thumb if I'm holding on the the magwell which is probably at least half the time. The only downside, at my outdoor range you have to set them on the table pointed down range. I'm not a huge fan of walking down range with muzzled pointed at me, but those are the rules. At least 50% of the time we look back at the gun table and the MP5 has it's light on. When I transport this gun in a case or bag I usually take the battery out completely because more times than not it gets activated and is VERY hot by the time I get it out. I thought about doing a real light with a tri-rail or something similar but for me it takes away some of the slim/sleek appeal of the MP5. The 328 puts out more light than I thought it would. And probably almost the perfect amount if using indoors. Overall I've been happy with it, just wish it didn't cost so much! Thanks for watching.
I've got the oldschool 628F and have been wondering if the LM upgrade would work with the Octane 3-lug mount without modification. My question has finally been answered! Thanks! Now to decide if I want to do this, get one of the 1913 handguards, or wait for the new M-Lok handguards from Dakota... I really like holding my MP5 with my thumb on the cocking tube, but the SF handguard light isn't made for that.
I went with this to keep the gun slim. I thought about going with a real mounted like but the gun becomes too wide for my liking then. I hate to say it but the MP5 is really a dying platform since the AR has become so prevalent.
***** I agree the MP5 has become obsolete since 5.56 carbines outshine them in almost every way. They're still fun and easy to shoot, and get plenty of attention at the range.
Calvin Truong Yep. One of these days I'll bring one to a carbine match just to be different. Last time I went someone showed up with a short-barrel AK, so I figured why not rock the MP5.
Cloud Defensive OWL with 1,250 lumens on a LWRC 45 Rugged suppressed. I'm currently researching accessories for the HK SP5 thats soon to hit the market. The original forend type looks the best. The only issue is with adding a light and suppressing. Steiner discontinued their forened that gave a bit more room for suppressors. It makes no sense Surefire has not solved that issue. Makes no sense!
crimson productions Yes. I own a 628LMG and I can swap between the 1 and 2 cell LED lights I have for it. The light is what houses the battery and electronics needed for proper voltage to the light. The forearm is a glorified switch.
FirearmTutorials .com thanks for the reply. The reason I ask is I saw another video where this particular Surefire handguard seem to have what look to be about at 8 inch of play up and down and the reward section of the handguard. I just wanted to make sure that that wasn't a typical scenario before I went out and spent the money on one of these for my z5rs
Thats some weird tick of me, I just cant stand unprotected threads, I cringed, when you put the silencer on. I mean its part of the barrel and the barrel is pined, if you fuck up the threads, you fucked up. Remember kids always use protection, even on your threads :D
It's not so much of an issue in my case. on the MP5, I'm using a 3 lug mount so I don't really care about the threads. on HK pistols, the barrels are cold hammer forged and the threads are so tough you really couldn't damage the them at least not easily. I would definitely use a thread protector on some of the cheaper barrels and ones threaded in finer pitches like .5x28 or .578
It's dated now because the light is only like 100 lumens. Try looking for the 328 without the LMG. They make a 500 lumen version now still on a single battery.
Joseph Torres I used to draw these in school because I was obsessed with them for some reason. The ones with the flashlights in the handguards. And I wanted to see the whole thing and I never did... lame lol
That is the Octane 9 HD with their 3 lug mount. I haven't changed this configuration but the light at only 100 lumens is pathetic by today's standards. There is a replacement head the screws in (LM-1-B - 500 lumens) but I don't have it and can't verify if it fits or not. Hope that helps.
back in the day, we were happy at 65 lumens. Now it's something awesome like 500 lumens which I never thought was possible.
Yea it's crazy. I remember spending $250 on an incandescent light in 2005. I think it was 65 lumens and a dingy.
And now we expect 1000 lumens from standard weaponlights.

Do you think a replacement ambi sling pin would fit through the hole of the surefire hand guard?
Yes it's a standard pushpin hole.
Looks like you have a F model MP5 with the ambi loop plate up front. Would there be more clearnace without it?
United HomeCare Yes there would be plenty. The sling loop is welded on so I just left it there.

Can you tell me the name of that barrel adapter and what size supps it will take, thank you.
+No compliance It's not a barrel adapter. The barrel is made with both the 3-lug and threads. It's not removable.
***** What went on to clear the light then? What's it called, who makes it. Thanks
+No compliance The 3-lug mount is an SWR/Silencerco mount that works with the Octane 9. Check it out here:

I have the B&T one from HK USA it’s about $166 and it much brighter than that, but the light body is much bigger, so it not as nice of a hand guard.
I noticed that too. I thought about replacing mine and going with that one but I didn't like how big the body was. There's always a trade off.
Does the hand guard have any play in it when mounted?
Not really. You can hear it, but can't feel it if that makes sense.

I folded up some aluminum foil and put inside. Took the play out.
what kind of MP5 do you have ? Is it an Hk or something else ? Nice rig,,,

+FirearmTutorials .com Out of sheer curiosity, whats up with those allen screws on each end of the guide rods of the DJ Getz guns?
+Jake Weston that's how it came.
does the light clear a current generation HK factory flash suppressor ?
That I don't know. Haven't tried one of those because I don't own one.
You may want to get one. It will reduce your flash by about 75%.
Will this work with a SP5?
Yes!
Where can I get one of those bad boys .
I heard they stopped making them but I'm 100% sure on that. Try looking at optics planet
Who is the manufacturer of the two piece tri lug mount?
It's from Silencerco for the Octane suppressor. I think they have a newer version of that mount now.
@@FirearmTutorials Thanks for your reply unfortunately the newer version will not work. Thank you though
You should get a thread protector!
It came with one but I don't use it because they always come loose eventually so I'd lose it.
