    Any layered cut can look good once curled. A true test is how it lays when air dried. It is so hard to find a stylist who can achieve that!

      Saundra B most of the haircut tutorials that I've seen curl the hair at the end and you CAN'T see the real final results, why no show it straight? Or with minimal blow drying?

      U can't actually see any layers when your hair is straight

      @@baochautrn1222 you can see the layers in straight hair when he shakes the head/hair, I've seen it on Sam Villa's videos

    Beautiful. The curling work was so clean and uniform, the razor cutting was ideally placed and connected. Really enjoyed the artistry in this haircut. Thanks.

    I just found your videos today and have been binge watching them all day haha. I’m still in school, only two months left! Anyway I love to learn all that I can and your videos have been incredibly helpful, especially this one since I myself struggle with hair that is on the thinner flatter side so I’m always looking for ways to achieve more volume! I would love a chance to win the flat iron as the cord broke on mine and I have yet to figure out what one I can afford to purchase that is good quality. Thank you!

    This is my favorite tutorial for long layers! I followed this technique for 2 weeks at my salon worried that the clients would be on the fence about using the razor but to my surprise they appreciated the subtleness of the layers and not taking heavy chunks off. Thank you, thank you for this tutorial!!

    I was really hoping to “see” the layers dry and how they “sit” in the hair. If it is all curled it is pretty but not showing the work. Ladies do not always have their hair curled...what will it look like when it is not... Anyway, nice video otherwise. If you need an idea for another tutorial, Live Model, Long Layers, Thick Hair, Flat Ironed. Thank you for your work.

    Hey mat I just started watching your videos recently I am a certified cosmetologist, I graduated last year. One thing I do want to say is for this tortorial you went a little to fast so I was having trouble catching on but this is very helpful for me. All your videos are. I actually seen the alone basic bob and it really helped me and I actually practiced today and I did a wonderful job. Thanks to you very much. When I was in school I wasn’t focused because I was also working at the same time and I would only get 3 hours of sleep and barely eat now that I’m sleeping well and eating good I’ve practiced allot and hour videos are a big help thank you very much once again and I’m definelty going to look at your other videos as well and comment and let you know what I think. It would be nice if you made a videos on texturizing techniques with more details and more slow so I can understand when your texturizing. I seen the other video and you were lifting the hair up and had the shears open and kind of like going up and down sliding up I LOVED IT I’m still getting use to that. I was kind of having trouble in that but I still did good. So if you could make a tutorial on different texturizing techniques that would be great !! Thank you and I would love to win the iron because I’m getting ready to start working in the salon and this would be wonderful for my clients.

      Julie Colleran Hi, I'm 60 years old & sometimes I wonder if I should go to cosmetology school, hair cutting I mean, because it seems fun and I love people. Do you think I'd stand a chance at actually getting customers or getting a chair somewhere? I live in Boise, do you? I'm watching a lot of videos because I want to cut my own hair. Haven't done it yet. I've trimmed the ends before & framed my face a little; but I'm concerned about doing a decent job. I'm retired & need to be frugal about spending money! Anyway, your comment here was interesting to me. Thank you.

    @faceup46 Před 5 lety +1

    Hey Matt, cool way of long layering, but just curious, when or what is the right cut to check for "corners" or the even-ness of the layers, or making sure that the layers don't hang too choppy when doing a disconnected layer? It was drilled into me to "check" the haircut and make sure there are no "corners" left behind which would make styling and growing out difficult for the client.

    I know it sounds hella silly, but when I finally get the money to I'm coming straight to you to get my hair cut. Ive been watching your videos for two or three years now. I posted about this before, but I found out you're 45 minutes away and I'm really looking forward to making that trip. I feel like I haven't had a decent haircut in years and I know your salon would do me right. I used to get haircuts all the time as a treat to myself and I really miss that feeling. I guess it might sound silly, but it can difficult to find a salon where you really feel like you can just be yourself and trust the person who is styling you. I'm planning on bringing my sister with me too and I really can't wait to treat her to it! :)

      I totally understand your struggle. I haven’t been to an actual hair salon in years! My mom usually cuts my hair but it’s just a blunt hair cut lol.. but I really want to go to a hair salon but I really don’t know what kind of “hairstyle/cut” will suit me. And I’m scared that some hairstylist will just ruin my hair and I’ll just hate myself forever. It’s been a hard hair journey for me. But goodluck and I hope he gets to cut and style your hair someday!

      Yeah, I know the feel. hahaha Except, in some cases to be fair, it's me experimenting and screwing up my own hair. I'm actually going to start going to school soon!! (Going to a few schools this coming week because, well... You only have one life, and if there's something you really wanna do or try, you should do it.) I think if you really want to find the right stylist, you should look through their portfolio and work history. Ask them questions too! Look through a look book and see what you like and show them. Remember your own personal style and different quirks that make you comfortable. Ask them if they can do it. Also, remember though that everyone's head shape is different, even if it is the same "general shape" so it may not fall the same way, but it can be tweaked to suit you. It's a lot of trial and error though too. You never know how well-versed the stylist is in different areas unless you really ask them. Everyone has their niche, even in hair. There's a huge learning curve in hair and a lot to know/remember. I think some stylists too, have trouble with different hair types and it can take them a few times of cutting your hair to really get to know both you and your hair. Good luck!! :) I really hope you find a stylist that suits you and find a haircut that does too! And remember, it grows back. ^.^

    Would this be good for someone that had fine long hair but liked to have short layers on top, while keeping length on bottom?

    Thank you for all of your videos!!! I know you said that on the crown area you used the 100% cutting side, did you also use the 100% when you did the face framing?

    Thank you so much for this video. Always a challenge for the mermaids to have volume and length when they do not get it from the density. I am moving soon and the new iron would help me in building a new clientele. You have been a valued educator for many years. Keep it up!
