    To me a clicker is just an annoying distraction. But to each their own.

      Bought one and used it once with my previous dog, she would come back for food no matter what the situation anyway. Miss her still to this day even though she's been gone for nearly 2 years.

      @susangarvey9415 I'm sorry for your loss. I lost mine girl in Oct of 22 and I'm just now getting a new puppy.
      She was my emotional support animal. She was too little to do the things I needed physically at times but she was perfect for me. She knew when I was in pain and wouldn't leave me.
      The new puppy was sprung on me quick by my husband, who knew I wanted one in a more specific breeding category. So he found one that he knew would peek my interest. Lol And now all i can think about is when i can bring her home on June 14th. She's a German shorthaired pointer (GSP)
      I grew up with hunting dogs. So she should be great at retrieving what I need quickly and know what I need.
      I hope you find another love like you lost. ❤❤

      I'd like to argue but I have no choice than agree on this expect I don't find it annoying instead the clicker I've is so insanely loud that with every click I feel like I loose my hearing soon lol

    This man has given me a whole new dimension on dog training, my JRT has got so far in her development because i have stuck to crertain things ive learned from this channel, a notorious breed for
    being a bit stubborn she has come so far and at 16 months old i am now working on, although a bit stubborn, the breeds eagerness to please. Working on recall now, indoors and out, and once ive got her tracking collar sorted out shell be out and around in the wild. Socialised, obedient and very friendly, alot of this is down to this guy and my persistence, I never thought I'd get this far. I would like to see him working with a Patterdale terrier, my dog is mostly Jack Russell, she is a quarter Patterdale, have had to do a bit of research on them, I've owned JRTs before, the Patterdale in her added a bit of a different dimension. Happy dog training everone, especially to all the terrier owners out there.❤

    Hate the clicker ...fumbling about and missing the moment because as well as the blumming clicker , I'm carrying leads, state ball, thrower, treats, bags of poo, holding kids hands etc.. I've only got 2 hands for 2 dogs and 2 kids and all their stuff...forget the blumming clicker .just playing this to my bloke. 😂

    • @jaimemiller7950
      @jaimemiller7950 Před 7 měsíci +3

      For some dogs it might be! But some dogs don't care about praise at all. The reward has to be something the dog actually wants :)

      Countless treat trainers successfully use treats to train. Done correctly, your dog doesn't depend on treats. Mine are treat trained. Mine don't rely on treats to do what I ask.

      I tried to do praise training and my dog just stared at me like "whats in it for me?". She has so much sass. She's a Vizsla and I just know she's going to be a very rebellious teenager 😅 so treats are necessary for her.

    As were new to the click training with our puppy (GS Pointer high energy, needs constant stimulation). The breeder is much like me. One day I my not feel as well so my voice may not be as consistent as the clicker to begin training with. I think until they have it down well, you could do both. Or with a new command/trick use the clicker.
    Our Jack Russell knew the tone of my voice if I was more serious. She wasn't the average jack Russell. She was very calm 99% of the time. Dogs reflect their owners.
    Thank you for your video sir.

    I only use clickers when teaching a new, simple trick. I used it to teach touch (nose to hand), and it worked wonders. I keep it on me, but never rely on having a marker other than yes, because once a dog knows what their doing, they don't need to be marked. If you ask them to sit, they know when they sat if they know the word sit, so I only use it on learning dogs. I'm not a professional and love to use everything in my arsenal, but love your videos keep teaching us :>

      Yeah, you can pick a different word or sound to make. A lot has to do with tone and volume when you say it too.

    I agree. I use both though. There are studies that show a clicker is almost 30% more efficient in teaching the dog. Certain skills especially via shaping are much easier to teach with a clicker in my experience.

    I'm 100% with ya here!
    I tried clickers for awhile and on many occasions I didn't have my clicker or put it in wrong pocket or a bunch of stuff that I felt make the clicker inconvenient as opposed to a well placed "yes" marker.
    I did give it a solid try. A few tries in fact. But I felt the vocal yes marker was just more exact and I could add pep/zest to the YES to emphasize my approval of a behavior

  • @robinrutherfordcost4748
    @robinrutherfordcost4748 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Some dogs are afraid of the clicker, even the really quiet ones - even if it's behind your back, but the dogs that aren't afraid of it usually love it because it's consistent as far as the sound. You only ever have to charge a clicker once like 5-10 repetitions then they understand click means treat. Best part is when they realize they're actually in charge of it. I think you either like them or you don't, but it can be very difficult to get students to commit to them. We teach it then let them decide if they want to continue using it or not. It's especially helpful when teaching new exercises. Hope that helps.

  • @tesla-spectre
    @tesla-spectre Před 8 měsíci +3

    Totally agree. We have fingers to make a snapping sound which I use exclusievly to make my dog lie down when it has to right awy without seeing me (so I cannot do the hnd down movement for him to see). Clickers are useless and a waste of money. Like most training devices. All one needs is own voice, hands, a leash and a treat bag... end of story

    The problem is that in our language (Dutch) we tend to use yes to often with our dogs. Same as “free” or “vrij” in Dutch. Therefor for me it is easier to use the clicker. Especially a ring clicker is easy because you can’t lose it and almost not forget it. But good information!

    Amateurs, like myself, are normally prone to paraphrasing which may lead to inconsistencies in your marker. We may say "yes" 8 out of 10 times but may say "ok" or "great" by mistake. Clicker eliminates it in non professionals. But I understand and agree with you sir. Afterall you do this job full time and far more experienced then I am.

    When went to animal behavioral college. They do 6 months book work and 6 months hands-on training and they teach the clicker technique! I'm not sure how I feel about it as well! Just like you said I'm saying yes as I'm clicking anyways. So the yes is the marker! Then again, I think it does help a little bit as an extra reinforcer and I think that's basically what it's for! It's just an added reinforcement!

  • @AnneliFyhr

    Its much faster using a high, positiv sound than a clicker. It comes intuitive.
    But, that is still clicker training, if one uses a desired reward to let the dog (or husband 😂) know that that sound means correct.
    We do this with our kids all the time, we just dont use the word clicker training for them.
    Humming and making positive sounds.

Or is that just gonna confuse him? 🤔

    Wouldn’t “yes” also get discharged because it’s used in everyday language? I’m considering a clicker because it gives a consistency across all family members if that makes sense.. consistency is our biggest issue. I say one thing, wife another and the kids.. who knows what they end up saying

    No offence man, but clickers often make people train cleaner. I can tell you kind of need to improve on your markers from this video; you present the food in your hand tear it apart, so the dog looks at you and then you say “yes.”
    But the yes, should predict the food for the dog. And the dog doesn’t really give much of a response to the word yes. As in you havnt conditioned it. Which is the same for a lot of people who use verbal. Leave the food out of your hand and hold a clicker 😂 they’re like $1 buy 100 so you don’t loose them 😂
