Welcome! These musical clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. At this moment in time Patti could just do no wrong. Countless standing ovations people finally recognized how truly gifted she was. I think she should actually have an award for the most televised standing ovations.

Damn.......Patti took Loverman to another level.
She did but I'm not certain where that level is. She showed great timing, passion and power but although it was only a few notes it did bother me how out of tune she went and for my taste I found it a little lacking in subtlety. Still she is a genuine powerhouse of a singer who knows how to stir an audience.

@@Pooquie1 Very true, please don't misunderstand me in the sense that I really do rate Patti as she is an exceptional artist, for me it's just that I don't think this is her at her best. I'm a musician and can appreciate that sometimes on stage if the sound isn't right, particularly in a very large venue it can be difficult to pitch and this I feel could be a factor regarding the issues I mentioned. The other point I made is purely a taste call and is only my opinion which is no more valid than anyone else's. I do like Patti on many recordings and live performances. She does have a rare gift in that she can really touch an audience. Thankyou for taking my comments as they were meant rather than calling me a hater, which I definately am not.
@@markhiggins8315 Good morning, Mark. I know taste is an individual thing. I don't think you're a hater.........lol. I understood what you meant by some of the subtle nuances of the lyrics being abandoned in Patt's interpretation. I actually agree with what you said. I'm just one of those people who can appreciate subtle, or no holds barred approaches to singing. Having said that I love Patt's over the top extraness..........lol. I didn't take your earlier comment as anything except honesty that I appreciate.
Patti's voice is one of the wonders of the world........I simply love this woman. Thanks for posting this.

Actually although she is unquestionably a powerhouse of a singer I was bothered by her lack of subtlety and the fact that she did go out of tune here and there, once rather badly( normally her pitch is not such an issue and not too many singers are always perfectly in tune but here Patti does loose her pitch to the point of it being an issue). I'm not denying her outstanding gift for rousing an audience and singing with suberb timing, real passion and feeling.
Having said all of that I certainly rate Patti and she can produce real magic at times I found this particular performance rather unconvincing and definately not her finest hour.
Still she is hell of a performer.

Again I think Patti is a huge talent but my comment regarding her pitch is valid and it's not something that she generally has big issues with so there must be a legitimate reason possibly on stage monitor problems. My other point is purely a taste therefore a subjective thing. I really like Patti on some recordings and particularly live performances but not this one. I would still say for me, on her best form she is a hugely exiting and dynamic performer.
On this song however I would without question go with Billie Holiday's way of telling this story.
At least Patti definately does it her own way rather than adopting a similar approach to Billie's iconic interpretation. Patti has such a strong style of her own so I guess was never going to go that way which is good as that never really works. I just don't think this is necessarily the best kind of material for her.

She is exceptional. This particular performance however wasn't. Patti sings with great power and passion but although her pitch is usually ok just here and there on this performance she goes too out of tune for comfort.

This Performance is one of the best that Patti Labelle has ever sung live on T.V. 2nd would be Arsenio Hall (Winner in You), Third Motown 25 (Youll Never Walk Alone) and (You Are So Beautiful)
I would also add the house I live in the frank Sinatra performance in particular. Another honorable mention was the Michael Bolton duet. That performance was the talk of the town! Omg I had to edit an add to this post. Add to these the songs she sang at the apollo over the rainbow and if you dont know me by now. Everyone went crazy for those performances back in the day. I dont know how my VHS tape didn't burst with all the rewinding. Lol

I am a HUGE or ENORMOUS fan of Patti. I love her! Most of songs I just absolutely love. There are some songs such as this one that I don’t get into. But this is what I love about Patti. She brings art into music or the song. I love the art of how she sings a song. And I love the art in how she caress this song. It was delicate and vocally outstanding. She delicately used her decrescendo so softly that still punched me in the heart as she always does when she is equally as wonderful in songs that she rises and falls with notes. She has a super rich voice!

Oh, Patti!...
Patti’s influence is strong on many singers today. They strive to go to the heights of their voices like Patti while giving a stellar performance but fail to really reach the mark. Maybe someday. At 3:17, the music under her voice was so beautiful. I certainly couldn’t play behind her back during this time. I would have been too encapsulated by her voice.

MOR Music clips- is there anyway you can get your hands on Patti's performance of "oh holy night" during a Christmas special. Air date was 12/11/2005. Other performers were Bo Bice, Mary Mary. Not sure if name was "holiday custom concert". There is the group performance of "imagine" with Patti drowning out everybody! But I cannot find the "o holy night" performance anywhere (had it on vhs) that performance was Godlike okay! Those white people in the audience were in a trance. I cannot stop crying anytime I watch it.

@@mormusicclips8959 yes I have seen all the other versions online but the one I'm talking about. Ugh. My VHS tapes are in storage in nyc. Don't even know if the video would even play anymore. I have a bunch of amazing performances not seen online yet. Few things I have as audio only in very high quality.

She certainly did it her way. Some exiting moments and touches here and there of real musicality.
However she does go quite badly out of tune a few times and it lacks subtlety, still she sure puts it out there.
Certainly a vocal powerhouse with all of the classic Patti touches, but the song is unrecognizable. Lots of oversinging.
