When these albums came out it was like being a kid on Christmas. Two full albums of GnR greatness. Plus it was a great few months for albums. All within 6 weeks of each other, we had these two albums, Pearl Jam's Ten, Nirvana's Nevermind, Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Metallica's self-titled, & The Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magic. An amazing time for music.

Excellent! I appreciate your friendly reminder of all of those great releases back then, all so close together. My bandmates and I drove over to Birmingham, AL to see GNR perform, it was two months before the albums even came out! Skid Row was the opening act in support of their second album, "Slave To The Grind" and man...that was a GREAT show before some 180,000 people! The venue was a horse track which was muddy af due to heavy rain the day before the concert. Good times and tons of fun for all! Peace...

Our generation broke the mould and it ROCKED.
I was at a co-ed boarding school from 1990 to the end of 93 (yr 9-12) and despite being dirt poor and on a scholarship, the skills I developed as a little girl meant that I'd wired up a kick ass sound system that was only enhanced by the atrium our dorms were in.
Know how I paid for all of the different pieces? I made CDs or either entire albums (everything listed was in high demand) or mostly the boys paid me to make ones that'd get them laid. Those were my easiest ones - I just mixed Enigma 😂
Nothing like a bit of bootleg action in the midst of the most wealthy school in our state, I simply utilised what was around me 😉

The song was written long before the video. The video is based on a short story.
She takes her own life shortly after the wedding. He didn't dream it. He has nightmares and can't sleep.
There's a part in video that everyone misses, but I saw it immediately. after the wedding, they jump in the car... she looks so sad...not happy.

Already loved GnR before this from Appetite For Destruction album, but this era just elevated them to epic status! November Rain, Don't Cry, Civil War, Estranged, You Could Be Mine...just an amazing pair of albums with incredible songs.
This track has THE best funeral dirge of all! Slash kills it. The video of this song certainly adds to the awesomeness!
Honestly, you guys need to do Don't Cry & Estranged now to complete the trilogy!

Hello guys, so she committed suicide. Notice how half of her face isn't showing in the coffin. It's part of a trilogy. So they get married, but she thinks he's cheating and leads her to take her own life. That's why he walks by the gun shop. He feels guilt, and replays their time together in his dreams.
So you'll have to watch all 3 of them, I think it goes "Don't Cry" ,"November Rain" and then "Estranged " all 3 are excellent songs. I still remember seeing them live in 90' with Metallica opening for them and a full Orchestra!! 🎼Excellent and my top 5 concerts!

Just a fun fact for you! Saul Hudson who goes by the stage name Slash feared for his life a little bit while filming this video. His solo in front of the small church was shot with an actual helicopter. The helicopter literally flew and dived around him in all directions to catch those shots. That's why he had so much wind blowing his hair. It was reported that the helicopter got extremely and dangerously close to him at one point. He said the entire experience gave him slight anxiety and he was afraid of being hit. He's been seen in interviews saying, "I thought that was my last day on Earth," and " I would have went out jammin though." You wouldn't know in the video that he was scared though! His amazing talent and passion along with his entire beautiful self shine straight through. 😊❤

I obsessed over this band in high school (late 80s-early 90s), right alongside Mötley Crüe, and Metallica, among others. Used to have long hair, and dress up like Axl. I'll never forget my buddies and I seeking out any tidbit of underground GnR news. Pre-internet of course. I remember one of those buddies having a bootleg recording of a demo of this song on like a Maxell brand mix tape. It was bare bones. No orchestra or keys, except for the foundation of that initial piano part. "Oh my God!! Axl can play piano too?!?! What a God!!"
I saw them live 4 times between '88-92. The first time just the 5 core guys playing cuts off the Appetite album. No piano. The 2nd time they played this song long before it even came out. It was so cool when that grand piano appeared onstage from seemingly nowhere. They played it bare bones, and we all felt so privileged to be hearing this song live before the world got to hear it. Good times! Great memories!
The 3rd and 4th times I saw them they went full on with the backup singers, and all the bells and whistles. It was cool and everything, but not nearly as cool as those first 2 shows. When it was just the 5 core guys (including Steven Adler on drums, and Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar).

Empire Records - Robin Tunney (also in End of Days & The Craft).
I was an Axl & Duff gurl!
This vid was meant to be the 1st (or 2nd) of a trilogy telling a short story. Stephanie Seymour, Axl's gf at the time, was in the 2nd (or 1st) one, Don't Cry as well. That one also features Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon) in backup vocals. My personal fave was the 3rd vid, Estranged.
Great tune, but got SOOO played out for years after it was released, like Metallica's Enter Sandman. One of those 'popular' ones I got tired of & have to REALLY be in the mood to play.

If you've ever met Slash you know he's never accepted his celebrity status. Just focused and hard working. He gets extremely awkward when those "you're a legend!" fans get in his face. He never boasts about his playing ability at all. Instead he always talks about what he's working on currently. The hate he gets is all fan created. The only person he ever hurt was himself with substance abuse.

  • @fd1930
    @fd1930 Před rokem +3

Another great song choice from my favourite reactors! Must admit I was a little surprised at the after-song reaction though - a little talk about about the meaning, but nothing really about the quality of the song writing or the playing. Slash is an absolute force of nature on this song, as he is in every GNR song of course. 2 of the great rock guitar solos of all time in this song. I love Slash's body language, both in his coolness to the "acting parts" and the way you see him getting himself pumped up for the finale from around 11:50 in your reaction. The man lives to play his guitar!
For me, one of the greatest rock songs and the video supports it really well. The video is a 2022 update by the way, with the orchestra and all, so not surprising it looks shiny and new.
In other news, may I suggest a slice of classic rock - Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower. I'm sure you'll enjoy! Classic stoner guitar rock! Keep on keeping on guys, love your work

Although Slash said he didnt even know what November rain is about, the video is very complex and the bride supposedly dies from suicide (gun shot). “November Rain” was loosely based on the short story “Without You” by Del James, a friend of Axl Rose. Or so they say.

In Axl Rose's later version of GNR they had guitarists Robin Finck and Buckethead in the band. They did a great live version of November Rain. You should check out GNR live doing Dust & Bones and 14 Years sung by Izzy Stradlin. Also Velvet Revolver feat Duff McKagan, Slash, Matt Sorum, Dave Kushner and vocalist Scott Weiland RIP were playing GNR live. Could actually be the band without Axl Rose. There are some live recordings doing It's So Easy feat Izzy Stradlin and Mr. Brownstone. You must also check out GNR- One in A Million. Very controversial lyrics back then

Hollywood's analysis sound about right. I'm getting all emotional right now because my parents just celebrated their 50th anniversary in November and today if her kidney counts are down she's going to have open heart surgery so she can get possibly 1 more year of life. I'm trying to hold it together but it's hard. Out of the whole family she's the one that is the most proud that I sobered up my life and have become the glue holding the family together when 11 years ago I was the scumbag in the family. I'll be 11 years sober August 5th. No one was supposed to survive with a bac of .41, I would be dead if it wasn't for the icu medical team.

@@mikenastasi8927 do what you need to do. I personally am anti God. That my own beliefs. But if you feel it helps go for it. I sobered up because I basically overdosed. I quite everything on August 5th 2012. August 9th is when the hangout went away. I just stick to the devils lettuce now. Keeps me away from alcohol and the hard drugs. My favorite part is I wake up remembering the night before.
