    Quick Video on how to replace the rear brake pads on the 1st Generation Ford fusion! Very easy and quick job. There are other steps I could have taken such as replacing the rotors as well but I was instructed not to as this car was being sold the next day. I will have a video on how to replace the rear brakes coming up in a couple days as well!

    If you have electronic rear emergency brakes on a 2016 ford fusion you are not going to be able to just screw the caliper piston in all the way. You must put the car into "emergency brake maintenance mode" to do this watch this video. 2016 Ford Fusion rear brakes with EPB. This guy saved my butt.

    Many people don't know, ford implemented a brake maintenance mode for the rear brakes, theres no need for that tool or any tool, CZcams how to turn it on, and the piston can be pushed down with your thumbs, makes life incredibly easy!

    Make sure to put it in brake maintenance mode before taking off the wheels and always remember to lube those “caliper guides”, That’s the main reason the brakes go out so fast

    • @WheresWaldo05
      @WheresWaldo05 Před 2 lety +3

      The main reason brake pads wear out fast is due to buying aftermarket brake pads that wear out at best 50% of the stock/oem brake pads life capacity. Also if the rotors have defects in them. And lastly the caliper cylinders sticking so the pads are always or partially engaged.

    We have a 2018 Fusion and the caliper bolts are driven with a 7mm hex socket. Are you certain yours are T-45? They're both hex, but if you use a Torx on a hex head you might end up rounded it out since there's less contact area.

    Thank you so much, no way would have I just figured this out by trial and error! At least on a 2014 Fusion, you can turn the caliper back in, but it does not go all the way back by turning, you do still need to use a C-clamp or other tools to compress it in the last half inch or so.

      John Hutchison Hi John. Actually as you will have noticed in the film, I did not put the car in maintenance mode. I simply used the tool mentioned (the brake cube tool) to spin the piston back into the caliper. I did NOT have the brake in the on position. I have it turned OFF in this video.

    • @johnhutchison9782

      At 0:57 the EPB did get disconnected, correct? Or did you just move the wires out of your way? Several other videos make it seem like the maintenance mode needs to happen or all hell could "brake" loose (pun intended) It would seem that if the EPB wiring was unplugged, there would be no chance of it engaging during the pad/rotor change process. Thanks! Peace, John

    What? I just did one on a 2014. this has an electric parking brake. you would have to reset the brakes back. otherwise you could damage the electric motor. I'm just wondering how you didn't damage that.

      Nano's way Just follow the video. I had the parking brake TURNED OFF this entire video. Worked just fine for me.

    I know this is an older video, but would you need to put the car in service mode to work on the back breaks? To avoid any issue with the e-brake system?

      Robert Greenhouse The brakes on that car will be very similar to these with the exception to your car not having an electric parking brake.

    So my husband tried to change the breaks on our Ford Fusion WITHOUT putting it in Brake Maintenance Mode now the brake light beeps the whole time the car is on and the caliper / piston part won’t go down far enough to put the new brakes on. How do I reverse this nightmare 😩

      There is an electric service mode for the rear brake. Search it up on CZcams.

    Do you have a video showing how to change the caliber

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  Před 2 lety

      I don’t. But you would need to follow the steps in this video to remove the caliper. After that, you need to remove the hydraulic brake line from the caliper and the electrical connectors. Then the caliper should be free. Install the new caliper and you then need to bleed the fluid to get the air out of the system.

    That cube tool didn't fit for me at all as it was too small. I borrowed the rear brake caliper tool kit from Autozone and did the job right.

      Same for me. I am not sure I lined up the spot for the pad notch

      @@alonsomendoza424 For some reason putting it in maintenance mode didn't work either. Perhaps I didn't do it right. The free borrow program from Autozone for the special tools works well as long as some fool hasn't destroyed the tool. Anyway, got the best pads I could on sale/clearance from Rockauto and the whole job was $24 including brake grease. With the new pads there is no brake dust, makes cleaning the wheels better and it still stops hard as ever.

    If I needed to replace the rear rotor, what size socket/ torx etc. would I need to remove the brake pad bracket?
    Great video, thank you!

    • @HelpingHandAutoRepair
      @HelpingHandAutoRepair  Před 3 lety

      Honestly not sure of the exact size. It may not be a torx but rather a normal hex head bolt. If it’s like any fords of the past it is most likely a 15mm bolt
