#SonicXShadowGenerations #SonicAdventure2 #SummerGameFest2024 - Hry
i feel like not enough people are talking about how iterative on Frontiers the shadow part of this game is. it's clearly running on the same tech and the gameplay is based on it to an extent too. i think all the improvements and more bombastic levels bode well for the future of Sonic
Yeah this very much could be a glimpse of what to expect from a Frontiers 2
@GeorgieFl0ydCantBreathe bot
The game play we got out of Frontiers I want more of. I wanna see Sonic doing more than running and spinning. Give him actual moves, and give him a back story that Adventure 2 promised us!
@GeorgieFl0ydCantBreathe well probably your channel is shitpost.
@GeorgieFl0ydCantBreathelil timmy shut up
This Shadow Generations game starts to sound like a perfect example for the sentence "it's never too late" (just like Mania)
4:42 While I think Chaos Spear may still be a limited use ability, there IS footage of it being used outside of the Biolizard boss fight.
yeah fadel (gamescage) used in his most recent gameplay
@GeorgieFl0ydCantBreathecalm down, woah man
@@arieson7715He's just a bot, ignore him
It has the same function as it did in Sonic 06: when fired, the Chaos Spears are able to stun enemies upon making contact with them. I don’t know if they can be charged up to where they’ll be strong enough to deal actual damage to enemies, though.
EDIT: It turns out that by holding down the button to use the Chaos Spear, it allows you to lock-on up to 5 targets at a time.
@@SonicAndre2as long as it still makes him fly
Hearing that "Shadow Generations" is separate from Sonic Generations basically confirms my suspicions: The Sonic Generations portion is gonna be largely untouched, but the Shadow Generations content is clearly on Hedgehog Engine 2.
This is just hype beyond belief. Sonic Generations already is my favorite game and then they decide to do this. It's too freaking good. I love everything about this and I cannot wait till it's October
@GeorgieFl0ydCantBreathe the only one whos cringe here is you
We’re getting this and finally sparking zero too, best October ever
@@VoiceOfModernTruth
So true man...
So, you wanna buy the same game, but with shadow dlc for 50 euros? Wow, sonic fans are the most shit eaters ever alive 😂
@@VoiceOfModernTruthdon’t forget metaphor
making a shadow game and focusing on character development is the last thing I thought sega could do, the direction of sonic team is taking on the series needs a lot of more support
Why they did it with Frontiers?
This is definitely a critical period for the future of the franchise. Frontiers was a very ambitious attempt that brought a lot of things to the table without the resources to necessarily realize them. The writing and tone shift it introduced was definitely a massive shift from the past 15 years or so, and one that I think is for the better.
Hopefully, its success leads to the suits realizing that this is a good direction for the franchise and gets Sonic Team the resources it deserves. This Shadow campaign looks like it’s carrying the energy that Frontiers brought but with real polish, and I hope this is a good omen for the series trajectory.
@@dc_dachi I’d say the recent success is them making up for the 10 year drought we had and the mediocrity we had from lost world onwards up until frontiers. I mean, Team sonic racing was good, but nothing special and ofc Mania wasn’t made by sonic team. This is them righting the wrongs doing what they should have done after gens instead of giving us lost world. Now l liked lost world, but I have to admit that it should never have existed and nor should the abysmal Sonic Boom series. (While the boom series wasn’t created by sonic team and they had nothing to do with it, I was also talking about the impact on the series as a whole and not just the sonic team games)
Frontiers had problems, but it was a step in the right direction ismn so many ways. I really want it to stick.
I love how expressive the entire thing is. The stages look like they have cinematics that don't over stay their welcome and integrate well with the stage, and Shadow is so expressive throughout the whole thing as opposed to having a blank stare with mouth movements. Definitely looking forward to the full thing
I was not expecting them to bring back Black Doom 🤯
It is so nice to see stuff from sonic team so well animated. It feels like it’s been since Sonic Boom that we got really well animated sonic content
Superstars
What's fascinating to me, is how Shadow basically fulfills the "Adventure" play style people wished Generations had. It's slower and more platforming focused than the traditional boost levels.
On it's own, that may make me give Generations a second change.
Oh yeah, I didn't notice that
The separate screens with Sanic Generations and Shadow Generations only brought Xenoblade 2 and 3 to mind. I never thought of the Hero and Dark story line reference
I want to point out how much better they're handling the marketing for this game (compared to the disaster of Frontiers' gameplay reveal). They're giving out just enough footage to get fans excited, and demoing it to journalists relatively early to build trust alongside hype.
Yesterday I had a nightmare where they accidentally released the wrong build of the game and it ended up being just as broken as Sonic 06
You never know it could come true. Colors Ultimate still has me dumbfounded to this day. I know it’s good nowadays but I’m never gonna forget that abysmal launch.
@@SonicSwift99 Not only does this look much more polished than Colors Ultimate already, but Sonic Team are actually developing this remaster. Not a third party dev company that had internal issues
@@DreamcastGenesai you know I'm talking about Shadow Generations
@@VergilGaia I was talking to the other person who replied to you.
@@SonicSwift99Sonic Colors Ultimate even after the patches doesn't feel as polished as it should be as there are some minor bugs and glitches that didn't occur in the original release of the game that still never got patched out. There's even boundary breaking glitches from the original that are still in the game.
Imagine if they had a G.U.N. Fortress level complete with a remix of that song from Shadow the Hedgehog, that would be so damn cool
I enjoyed playing through Sonic Colors Ultimate, however I played after all the patches were dropped and the cutscenes were not improved upon at all. Glad to hear Generations is looking and feeling good
How was the game? Does it still have any game-breaking glitches?
@Litchy51 I remember having to redo the egg shuttle twice because once the game crashed and during another time, I got softlocked due to a glitch that prevented me from moving on in the stage. There is still an overall feeling that it's not as polished as it should be as Sonic still doesn't load properly in Starlight Carnival, among other minor bugs and glitches. It's not broken but the Wii version is ultimately the more polished package overall.
@@GenerationZ313What version did you play?
@@robman1493 I played the Switch version and aside from handheld mode, I may have to suggest playing any other platform as it runs at half the frame rate instead of 60fps on everything else.
@@GenerationZ313 Yeah I heard the switch version is the most broken version of the game, I played it on Xbox when it first came out and I didn't really encounter anything game breaking (apart from the skybox disappearing in Planet Wisp act 1).
i do want to point out while the stage theme is based on final rush/chase. the stage itself is based on the various ark stages from shadow the hedgehog. The name, the song, and alot of the level gimmicks are straight from that game instead of sonic adventure 2
Yeah it's more like an overall space colony ark level then any specific one.
If the final boss doesn’t feature an orchestral rendition All Hail Shadow I am going to be pissed
Maybe it will be a new track? I’d like that
What about "I am all of me " song ?
@@stormbringer717 All Hail Shadow is more fitting as a final boss theme (plus it's just a way better song)
What if, just what if, the final boss being Doom or Mephiles
ok take what you said but imagine it being sung this time by Kellin Quinn! :D
Imagine if there was a boss where Shadow uses chaos spear as an actual spear like a melee weapon
Im just so happy that shadow feels good to play with and the stage is massive with alternative routes to make
What I'm mostly hoping is that Cindy Robinson redubs Amy's lines to make her sound less...well squeaky and be more in line with the way she currently sounds, but I know that will never happen.
Yeah. She sounds far better now than she did then. She was obnoxious here and especially in Free Riders. By far one of the best things the Boom series did.
Sonic Team is cooking! Let them cook 🥹
We have been
About the speed boost ting, it would be best to see Shadow use his Air Shoes as he glides that would look far better. We did see that on Sonic Prime and it would be best if we see that on the game too
Wait, so Homing Attack on the Jump button isn't the series standard anymore?
But it felt so natural...
That's what happens when your 3D Sonic game includes a double jump....
@@LoliconSamalik Fair enough, but that didn't stop Colours and Forces.
I think it's more about the inclusion of the Drop Dash.
@@LoliconSamalikno- it was like that in the original colors. Double jump and the homing attack were on the same button.
Sonic Generations × Black Doom’s Fury
Sounds great
Yeah, instead of “Sonic X Shadow Generations”.
The “Supporting Me” remix featured in the demo is actually from Sonic Generations 3DS, it’s from the Biolizard boss for Modern Sonic. This version of the song specifically comes from the OST CD for Generations, it sounds a little different from the one used in the game due to it not being compressed. I could recognize that remix anywhere, glad to see them using the less heard songs from the 3DS version of the game, I wonder if the same will apply to Radical Highway since that stage is also in the 3DS version.
Woah, this is seriously making me want an legit SA2 remake
They've said they're open to doing more remasters in the future so you never know!
I am surprisingly excited about this port! Doing a Bowser's Fury-style rerelease of Gens is smart and the Shadow campaign is impressing me so far, especially in the visual department!
The only thing I'm worried about is that mapping boost to R2 may make using the Quick Step really awkward in base Gens. Unless they lock your controls during Quick Step sections to moving the LS left or right like in Colors/Frontiers, which I was never a fan of, but I'll adjust.
Quick step was on R1/right bumper in the original, just like Frontiers. The only thing it will change is the drift will only be on L2 now instead of being on both triggers. At least assuming boost and homing attack are the only buttons that get changed.
I hope to god the Shadow portion is nothing like Bowser's Fury considering that was basically just a short tech demo.
@@agreedboarart3188I didn’t care that Bowser’s Fury was a tech demo. I loved it enough. Heck, the best tech demo I’ve ever played, so please make that the future of 3D Mario. It’s like playing a 64 styled game with actual power ups.
Shadow Generations is gonna be a chaos blast!💥
It would be awesome if we could use chaos blast as ability, just imagine destroying everything…
So glad to hear that the controls and moving Shadow around feels good.
A couple of things we seem to know...
Shadow Generations will be shorter than Sonic Generations - which had 9 Zones.
Geralds Journal has 28 pages and there are journal themed collectibles with one per stage.
This Ark level was denoted as Ark Act 1.
I feel like this might give us some hint of the amount of stages to expect.
My guess? 7 Zones with (like Generations) 2 stages each...
Many people say that there will be like 5-6 zones
Shadow Generations being effectively a separate game with its own title screen excites me since I've been revisiting Generations pretty frequently and don't really want to replay the Sonic parts all over again just to get to the Shadow parts.
On the other hand, I did not like Sonic Frontiers (because I don't like open-world games of the size and style of Frontiers relative to Adventure, so hearing that the controls have been changed to be more like that makes me a little cautious.
All in all though, running the original Generations on PC is kind of a pain right now due to issues with the configurator, so having a new release of it that doesn't require that tool will probably make this far more playable on Linux systems via Proton/Wine. So that's cool!
There's a fanmade update to the config tool.
Shadow Generations might be a peak on how Frontiers 2 might be. Chances are that Shadow Generations was being developed around the same time of the Frontiers DLC and maybe said project got merged with the Sonic Generations port for Next Gen consoles which is why the games are completely separate and they will probably play differently. I do Wonder if for us PC players will the price of admission for Sonic X Shadow Generations be worth the full asking price because we already have Sonic Generations which still looks and plays great.
I have a question: could you change your controls for the Sonic Gens portion at any time?
i noticed you didn't bring up the Chao rescue missions. Did you not run into them? I was wondering if those were hard to find or not because other people mentioned finding one or two but not all three that are supposedly there
They weren’t in the demo, so I didn’t want to tease anyone with Chao content I couldn’t talk about! Thanks for watching! -Ash
@@GVG oh they weren't? Could have sworn some people said they found them. Thank you for answering my question though
Sonic Heroes has the best stage themes in any sonic game, SA2 doesnt come close in that department, Rail Canyon is gonna bomb.
3:41 "OH SH*T ITS THE BIOLIZARD"
Im convinced that they mixed the code between frontiers and forces physics and engine to make it perfect.
Sonic Adventure 2 + Battle was fn epic and I still play it to this day.
Top 3 Sonic Game
As much as I still have problems, mainly the writing, the controls being messed up for the mechs, and the gimped radar for hunting, speed stages are still some of the most fun in the 3D series even though I wish they weren’t so railroaded compared to the level design of this game and SA1. Still, to give it credit, it allowed the stages to be along the most kinetic in the 3D series with only Unleashed rivaling it.
@@Mojo1356 Lol there is nothing wrong with the mech controls. They were simplistic and easy to get a grasp onto. None of the mech stages warranted any sophistication really which made the controls more than viable. Outside of the end of the game, the writing wasn't really that bad, with my only issue being the bits where they talked about shadows origins maybe.
Most of your comment appears to be extremely petty complaining and it almost sounds kinda desperate, but to each his own. SA2 did pretty much everything better than SA1 although it doesn't 100% stay loyal to SA1 in some ways.
@@Conviction454 the mech controls are freaking clunky. Makes the hover jets mandatory for even basic platforming.
Also, you will never convince me people confusing Shadow and Sonic was a good plot point.
Really looks like they’re working backwards to get back to the Adventure format. It’s like Frontiers, but slightly different.
Also actual levels. I like Frontiers, but I will not defend its re-use of assets.
Glad to see someone explain the controls. One question if you can answer, is Shadow's homing attack just a teleport or is there a basic one like Sonic's?
Just a teleport
I like it more.
A neat thing Shadow’s homing attack can do is that it can attack enemies even if there’s obstacles between it and Shadow. Like see the lasers at 2:45, Shadow can teleport right past them and still attack the enemy, whereas Sonic would Homing Attack right into the lasers and take damage
Shadow actually does do a normal homing attack for other objects like springs and other things he can bounce off of. But for attacking enemies specifically, he just teleports.
@ZeroKnight95 I saw he did do a regular homing attack when destroying the small meteors in the gameplay, that's why I wondered if it was only object specific. In fadel's footage the instruction promp showed X + O so I wondered if that meant pressing them together toggles Chaos Snap, or if it was simply X to jump then O to Homing attack like Unleashed.
@@germex1837 oh yea that is specific sorry. 😅
This looks awesome, i can’t wait
The gameplay for sonic x shadow generations is peak, like this is better than frontiers for sure, it beat gens with how fun it is and even unleashed, the movement is better than gens for sure cause gens cant even do a full turn right away, unleashed sonic can tho, so i’ll say the movement in this game is like unleashed and sa2 got married, cause thats what it is, also did yall know that theres an option to change the control mapping to gens, its called (legacy controls) or something, anyway shadow gens got amazing level design, theres multiple paths cause on my second try theres alot of new paths never before seen
Does the legacy controls option apply to shadow generations too? Or just sonic generations?
I know this isn’t an ad for the game, just a perspective from playing the demo. That said, this did a better job of making me want this game than any ad ever could. Awesome details!
That’s wonderful!
That's what they said about Origins and Colors Ultimate. I'll believe that it's decent when we actually get it in our hands.
Ash, I love hearing your voice. This is a great video.
How does the drop dash work with modern sonic ?
ok
Probably like frontiers where you press and hold A after double jumping (or single jumping if they didnt introduce double jump here). And then air dash would be A and X instead of A and A (which is what homing attack is as well). Air boost will be A and RT
The same as it did in sonic frontiers probably
Know this may be a shorter game, hope it does well enough for them to consider longer Shadow games
They already confirmed it'll be as long as of gens so no need to worry
@@Infernalshado3 It's not. Iizuka did an interview 2 days ago where he said it was a good chunk but still not as long as Gens and the fact that it's running parallel to Sonic's storyline.
@@SonicSwift99 link the source
Glad to hear it's all shaping up good, gosh the backend of the year has my wallet in shambles.
Did sonic have the double jump? Or did he still have the air dash?
Also you have no idea how happy i am that the boost is mapped to R2 and the homing attack is on square
I hope that we can customize the controls like in Sonic Colors Ultimate for the Sonic Generations portion at the very least.
He has the air dash
@@GenerationZ313 I know there are control options, though IIRC it's just a choice between new Frontiers-style layout and the "Legacy" controls of the original Generatons.
This review was a good vibe. lol Thanks.
7:49 hope that isn’t the case when it comes out its really concerning because sonic games should be atleast playable at 60 fps they require fast reaction times and high speed platforming but maybe they’ll fix it they still got 4 months until the release
Awesome, can’t wait
this is exactly what i wanted for frontiers, actual skins! i’m so glad we have stuff like this
But does Shadow say "where is that DAMN 4th chaos emerald?"
“It’s MORBIN time!!” *grows wings*
The true question we need an answr is, how did not the grenade blow up in 2:10.
I’m thinking the pc version will be controversial because, outside of the Shadow content, there will be nothing much new or different and they’ll charge full price for it.
Is there any side scrolling sections in the Shadow stages? What I miss most of the Adventure era was that I was never locked in to a limited move set.
I hope we can remap our controls so we play the sonic generations like the og game.
Im sure
Hmmm... levels are small and graphics are nice but don't look that taxing. I would have expected a 120fps mode tbh. Can still hope that's gonna be a thing by release.
I haven't played Generations since release, so by now it's pretty much a new game again.
So if Sonic's boost is mapped to R2, what does that mean for drifting? Is it mapped to R1 and dependant on direction like a racing game?
It’s most likely mapped to L2, since the original Sonic Generations had drifting mapped to both triggers.
@@ZeroKnight95 I meant L2, you're probably right
Gonna be funny to play this on Series X when it drops, because Series X already has a patched version of Generations for 360 that now runs at 4k60 and looks basically identical to the PC version, which also looks basically identical to the xShadow version.
There looks to be practically zero improvements to graphics at all in this port, minus that one bizarre change to Classic Sonic's quills for some reason. So if the Series X version can't run at a stable 4k60, then that's not exactly a great look.
And I have doubts they'll delist the old version when xShadow releases, at least on Xbox, since the version compatible with the Series X is the 360 version, and xShadow isn't available on 360. So delisting that version would be effectively deleting a game from a legacy console just to replace it with a game for a system 15 years it's senior.
You're slightly mistaken about the Chaos spear thing...
you can use it at basically any point in time given that you have chaos energy
Looking like a good little game.
This is great. I hope it comes to Switch 2 at some point. Will definetly eb picking this up. That being said.... seeing Shadows levels it has me thinking. Its been 20+ years. Maybe its time we got a remake of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 in this style. Dont ya think? Would definetly make money and the games definetly need a modern touch as well as accesability based on what im seeing. Make it happen Sega. Its time!
How is air control? In frontiers, it’s very stiff. Shadow looks a bit looser but idk lol
Ooh, the lack of blur looks so weird
How do you activate the drop dash for modern sonic? Cause doesnt he have an air dash…
By the sounds of it, the control scheme was changed to Frontiers’ controls so now you double press and hold jump to drop with the homing attack on X/Square just like Frontiers.
Generations is my favorite Sonic game next to Mania, although I usually lean towards Mania.
If the Shadow expansion delivers, Generations will likely be first place for sure.
It feels like they used some shadow voice lines from David Humphrey
And i like it
Bio lizard was in the 3ds version
I'd buy it just because I don't want all Sonic games to be open world because Frontiers worked, but I already have Generations on my PC and can play it at 4K no sweat thanks to the older graphics. It's really gonna come down to price and how much Shadow stuff is there, which is looking really cool so far.
Personally saw Sonic gen as a tech demo with fancy graphics. Idk if I wanna buy it again since i already have it for steam. Yohoho it might have to be.
But will it have 60 fps on Switch or its successor?
Sonic Frontiers 2 needs to have more spacious levels to move forward.
People were complaining about the frontiers dlc… they were hard, many places to go, many ways to finish the level… if they don’t make it as open they would be even better or if they added more collectibles… they ought to make it that difficult..
This and Yoka-Laylee getting a remake makes me feel so old...
Yooka-Layee is getting a remaster? It's not even 10 years old.
Aw, I was hoping to hear if the Shadow side had a good story or if it was lighter like most post-06 Sonic games have been... I love Shadow, and I really wanna play this, but I don't want to bother if it's just no story outside of a cutscene at the start and at the end. Hoping for a more SA2 approach where each level has an intro and outro, and dialogue throughout the level.
what you just described sounds more like Forces than SA2
@@samcandlesit would be nice to have animated cutscenes instead of having characters portraits and voiced text lines in Forces .
Gameplay footage shows Dooms Eye and shadow talking during the radical highway stage
The game has a hubworld, so they'll probably just use that to automatically explain the context of each level.
There does seem to be dialogue in the levels though.
@@samcandles I wouldn't know, I've played SA2 but not forces.
I hope it's not such a short game. But unfortunately the last times Shadow was playable was in Sonic 06 and Sonic Forces, so I imagine there are 4 stages in total, the last stage being Sunset Heights from Forces :l
i think it will be about 7-10 levels long.
nah i hope they dont do something from forces it wont be that exciting for people especially fans but they may do it its gonna be less work for them to remade since its already looking new enough
So funny thing, they haven’t shown it off yet in trailers, but there’s a frontiers style open world hub world. Take a look at the official website and they have a single screenshot of it.
@@vixtheexistent6390 I hope the Frontiers inspired hub world is at the very least as long as one island in Sonic Frontiers. I know Takashi Iizuka said not to expect the Shadow Generations portion to be as long but still it doesn't have to be super short either.
@@GenerationZ313it’s just a hub world ,not an actual full on open zone with missions,it’s probably going to be just the same as base generations hub world but in 3D
I’m just glad to have an opportunity to play Generations. I’ve never been able to play it before. Never really cared about Shadow as a character that much, so that aspect doesn’t really excite me, it’s an ok addition
Modern Sonic also having the drop dash is a questionable choice imo. If it's the same as in Frontiers, it'll be completely pointless.
Between Shadow Generations and Sonic Frontiers, I am so glad that Sega is leaning back into its shonen anime roots: I'm also glad they're managing to find a balance between gameplay and spectacle in both the stages and the boss battles 🤩
Sega still trying to make Sonic good again, but you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.
Wouldn't even consider this if it was $70. $50 is reasonable and may be worth looking into. Couldn't get into the original shadow the hedgehog game so Shadow's story should feel pretty fresh for me.
Very cool!
How does the biolizard compare to the 3DS version of the fight?
It looks easier (probably because it's likely to be the first boss of Shadow Gens while the 3DS version was the 2nd boss)
The first phase is similar, but the fight takes a pretty different turn very quickly. Its more active and there's less waiting
I dont think the spears are context based, you just press y
I really hope they don’t do what blind squirrel did to some of the red rings in colours ultimate where they changed some of them from the original and put them in places you wouldn’t think to look.
Did they remap the generation controls to be like frontiers?
Yes
@@SwellStuff483 awesome!

@@Twilord_ hmm maybe
They went to Westopololis not Radical Highway no?
It could be a mixture of both. After all, the ARK stage is named "Space Colony ARK", not "Final Chase".
I was expecting Sanic Generations again, but with some Shadow stages more as side content
I am hoping for a whole Shadow side of the game with a lot of stages and a bunch of sided stages. Same amount as base game or more
I also hope the game will be better optimized than the OG game on PC. My frame rate was ALL over the place in that game. I couldn't even play the game higher than 720p smh. My hardware was miles above the recommended settings. There were a few stages in that game I had to play at 15fps. I also got a Steam Deck OLED now and I replayed some of them, as expected I ended up going above 15W just to maintain 60fps in that 13yo game smdh. It was just as demanding as Sekiro was at max settings and maintaining a solid 60fps
I also hope this game doesn't have an FPS cap. I rly wanna play this game at 90fps. It feels like erry game I buy has a 60fps cap smdh

Dou you think it will be possible to Switch the controls to the OG Generations controls. At least for Sonic
Yes that was confirmed
@@thawkade Good to know
I am hyped for this game, but I hope I can put Gens on legacy controls to drift properly.
Also: The Classic drop dash is the only thing I really wanted them to change, but the Modern drop dash is literally the most pointless thing ever. Like seriously, wth were they thinking?!? We can already boost, so when will you EVER do a jump dash just to roll into a ball?
Theyre heading the right way.. sa3 soon then pls. Or sa2 remake! CHAO GARDEN IS A MUST
Buuuut will there be Chao babies? Because that's what I really want to see the Sonic team bring back lol. In SA2B, I was literally playing stages just so I could get cool stuff for the chao babies lol. So much nostalgia
5:21 So just a random spot in the level where an otherwise invisible path appeared when you happened to use chaos control? I'd prefer if those moments were more organically integrated into the levels, like a pathway that crumbles away before you have a chance to get there, or seemingly random debris floating through space that can act as platforms if you time the CC just right. It would be more on brand for the time stop ability than just revealing an invisible pathway too.
Who knows though, maybe the rest of the game will have stuff like this.
