    I suggest a 6-point socket over a 12-point to avoid damaging the plastic filter housing. Lisle part #14500 will do the trick. Good luck DIY’ers.

  • @screamingeagle9553
    @screamingeagle9553 Před 2 lety +11

    To keep the plastic nut on cap from rounding off I put a piece of paper towel between the cap and socket and it makes for a more snug fit.

    • @martinc334
      @martinc334 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Or get the six point instead of the 12 point socket.

    Good video. I appreciate your proper demo of the Priming process; other vids go straight to “Start” which isn’t correct.

    FYI… next time, there is a small drain port in the center bottom of the housing. See how it works when you have it off. You can break the vacuum and capture any water/debris before you unscrew the cap.

    * Sorry For This Long Read * Thank you for this video. I got a job as a welder with a concrete company. I told them up front that I know how to weld, but that I suck at it. I also told them that i am a dedicated and fast learner. But then one day a hitch on a crane truck broke. They asked me if I knew how to fix it, and then one of their gasoline trucks sprung a transmission leak. I've been building cars since I was a kid. I said sure. Then they asked me if i knew anything about hydro systems, diesel and heavy machinery. I lied through my teeth. I said yes. I have no clue what I'm doing. And yesterday I spent an hour just trying to find this dumb fuel filter. So thank you.

    The fuel filter being black doesn’t mean its dirty, if you check your new filter after 5 days it will be black already you cant tell if its good or not just count your miles

    Thanks for the informative video. The first time I got the filter from your link it was just as described. Bought one last week and it is not the same filter. No markings at all on the filter and the box was not AC Delco, just brown paper box.

  • @straightpipediesel
    @straightpipediesel Před 2 lety +4

    You don't need a billet cap. I'd be concerned if whatever metal they used will rust and clog your injectors, and whether they metal threads are going loosen with the plastic housing. Just buy a new cap when it gets rounded off, the GM parts catalog shows it costs $7.28 MSRP. If you wrecked one every time you change the filter, you'd still save money.

    • @10mm69
      @10mm69 Před 2 lety

      How so? A billet ALUMINUM cap is $40 or less within 60k miles you’re over the cost of one that lasts forever.

    Finna change fuel filter 1st time and it’s at 55,000 miles. Got it deleted at 30,000. Never had any problems. Maybe it helped occasionally putting the stanadyne diesel additive and deleting it of course

    Why not get a 6 point socket instead of a 12 point . You have more surface area on the nut. I change my fuel filter around 15000 miles. I have not had any problems getting it off. Yes 1st time filter change canister was on real tight

    The black crap is not actually harmful. It is some compound that is created becuase of the extreem pressure of the injection sysem and is carried back to the fuel tank in the return fuel line. It is not abrasive and doesnt hurt anything even though some of it gets caught in the filter.

    You won't "hear "the filter priming, you hear the fuel pump pressurizing the system. This could have been filmed in 5 minutes but still pretty good. If you buy a 6 point socket and put it on squarely and back up the wrench with your hand you won't have any problems and they shouldn't crack. I removed and installed the 3 on my ford 6.0 for 18 years with no problem.

    Treat your tank with “ howes” fuel treatment, it’s the only one that eats micro organisms which is in bio diesel.

    • @straightpipediesel
      @straightpipediesel Před 2 lety +2

      That's bad. As a filter traps dirt, the holes in the media get smaller and it's able to catch smaller particles. A new filter has about 60% efficiency for the first 20% of its life, reaching peak efficiency at 20-100% capacity, then starts to drop to about 80% for the next 40% overcapacity. Changing filters too soon is worse than changing them too late.

    • @johnny_truth
      @johnny_truth Před rokem

      @@straightpipediesel your sure about that, it makes sense. I was thinking about changing mine at 50% every time with the oil but I may take your advice. What % do you think 20 ? I just did my first at 15%
