🚨I don’t not sew on commission🚨 - Jak na to + styl
I’m sitting with my 89 year old grandmother going thru your channel and you bring her so much joy! She’s telling me how she learned to make her own clothing from school. She went to the store to buy patterns and materials to make her own clothes at home and that that was fairly common in the 40s and 50s. We’re Puerto Rican and when she moved to the US she moved into the projects with other Latino and black people. She said “even though we may not have been wealthy we made sure we looked good”. She’s pointing out so much of the techniques you’re doing and she remembers a lot of the things you have in your home!
Omg I’m honored to have you two as viewers💕❤️ I’m so glad you are both enjoying my work. I really appreciate it. Thank you for sharing with me
That is so lovely to be sitting and chatting with your grandma about sewing.
UK🇬🇧
That is lovely xx
You are a blessing.
That's beautiful, thank you for sharing ❤
Sewing should be MANDATORY in every school. Elementary to High. Such great skill.
We used to, along with woodworking, music, art….lol we learned penmanship- only private schools are teaching penmanship..hmmmmm🧐
Sewing two pieces of fabric together so you can treat them as one is called flat-lining, and it's the way pretty much everything was lined prior to the 20th Century. Bag lining--what we consider a "normal" lining, where you basically make the garment once, the lining version inside out, and then sew the two together at the edges--only became common when more loosely fitting and less-tailored garments became common. Flat lining results in fabric which is stiffer than either fabric by itself would be (and also, much stiffer than a bag-lined garment would be with the same fabrics).
Only YOU could take a 1950s housecoat pattern and turn it into a one of a kind couture garment! Absolutely beautiful!
The coat is stunning and in it so are you!
My mum was a fantastic dress maker .watching you takes me back to the years I spent sat next to her while she sewed.never got the hang of it myself,I'm a knitter. I lost my mum aged 95 last September and I have all her patterns, cloth and seeing machine and I just can't part with them she loved seeing so much. Thank you for posting .
SewRena in the 50's and 60's we always had wall calendars in our kitchen. Your photo shoots would make a great calander. I would order one.
What a cute idea!
Oh, SewRena - that looks gorgeous! You never fail to absorb us and give useful information, but what I love is that at the end, the showing of your handmade garment is always much more stunning on you, than I imagined it would be. You’re a fabulous model as well as a good teacher, and I’m here for both! Bless you ❤
Isn't it wonderful to know how to sew? You're able to make your dream coat and even dream about other color combos to make in the future. It was such fun to watch this video.
It is wonderful I’m so glad I took the time to learn! Thank you so much for watching 💕✨
Love your vintage Kenmore sewing machine!! Back when stuff was built to last!! Not break down in a year or less!!
OH! WOW!! You did such a FABULOUS work. It looks lovely on you! Thank you for sharing!!!
Oh my goodness the monogram! Also, this coat is spectacular!
It definitely gives the vibe from your inspiration photos. Its lovely. The lining is superb. Can't wait to see the dress you create to go with. 🌻🍄
*one of my favorites from the Dior-Era!!! absolutely FABULOUS!!!!* 💛
That is a LOT of wool going through that sewing machine! I’m impressed!
One of the last all metal vintage machines. It’s a beast!
Yess Kenmore from Sears Vintage sewing Machines ❤❤❤
That back in the day before heavy duty sewing machines, I think. Also, you got as much of the attachments you thought you'd likely use since the machine was expected to last a lifetime.
SewRena, you are such an inspiration! Your sewing skills are something to behold 🙂
Thank you 💕💕
I stuffed my hams with sawdust. Really tightly with sawdust. I got it for free from a place that cut wood for folx.
I had no idea what those were used for!! It's to hold the steam and weigh the seam open right??
@@dovie2blue I have two. A ham and a cylinder. The first most folx have seen and you lay curved seams or fabric on it to make it easier to press flat. The cylinder can be put inside sleeve for the same purpose. They’re not the same as a block but you could use it as one if you’ve made your own and they’re packed very very tightly. They’re really heavy! I think I used either Simplicity or McCalls sewing room pattern. It had other things for a craft room but I bought it just for a the pressing bits.
When you mentioned red and pink wow! But I think I would do a pink coat with red lining. Either way how dramatic and beautiful! Also black and white is one of my favorite combinations of colors. It turned out just amazing!
What a lovely coat! I think you should sew a matching hat next. That would be so lovely.
This turned out stunning! That yellow is so glorious and looks amazing with that light pistachio color. 😮
This coat turned out beautifully. You're really talented. I love that you share the tips and tricks you've learned along the way with all of us.💚
I love the pale pinks and blues for this era. ❤
Love your content! I wish I had the patience and skills to make something like this. 😂
Light blue & dark blue is a nice combo
This coat!! 🤩💗💗 it looks exactly like your inspo picture and I always love when I see you embroider your name in the lining. It’s all so perfect! ✨✨
Wow! So gorgeous and especially on you! Clever of you to use a robe pattern as a basis for this wonderful coat! Can't wait to see the dress you make to coordinate with this....plus the gloves! Just so lovely!!!
You have the patience of Jobe! Outstanding work for sure.
This is super cute. I’m glad you finally found the almost perfect yellow!
It’s literally perfect! 💛 I feel like your bow-neck coat and my bowed dress make so much sense together. You can never have too many bows lol
I want to make that bow dress so bad I just don’t think the green material I have would work well for that dress. 😍 thanks so much for watching
You are AMAZING!!! That coat is absolutely stunning, and flawless😊😊😊
I’ve been a coat junky for decades! “Looks like Mom needs a new coat”became a family joke every time they opened the front hall closet.
Lucky you! Yellow has always been my favorite color, but I look dreadful in it. So because I couldn’t wear it, I had multiple flowerbeds full of yellow flowers!!
This project turned out great! The coat and the color look fabulous on you!
Thank you so much I’m so glad that I can make my coats because the weather isn’t super cold where I live but it’s not warm in the winter either. So I get to make my coats fit my needs.
I LOVE everything about this coat! Great color choices and style! Perfect video for a super cold day. Thank you!!! 💚
I love it! You always look so awesome and beautiful in your stuff. ❤
My dream coat is a 50s swing coat in fawn-colored cashmere. Sigh. If I win the Lotto some day I will commission you to sew it!
It turned out great! I love the colours they make me think Easter in the best way
I think its amazing that you make your own clothes. If I could make my own clothes, I would add pockets to every dress.😅 You're gorgeous and I always look forward to your videos
That’s beautiful! I enjoy watching your videos so much!
U never disappoint !!! The Green satin is good lining choice !!!
I love faShion from 3-60s.. oh those Ladies knew how to look glamorous at all times. Even with rollers in their hair.
So beautiful! It reminds me of the coat Kim Novak work in Vertigo--I've always dreamed of that coat. I love your style ❤
Such a beautiful project. Yellow is such a tricky color. Its one of my favorite colors, but depending on the shade it can really do some unfortunate things. You chose well, that shade of yellow looks gorgeous with your complexion! Take care!
You did an excellent job.
This coat is just absolutely beautiful!!
My mother always wore a variation of this swing coat, right from the 1940’s, until she passed away in 2918. Usually in a “car coat “ length. I love that shoulder style and it’s flattering on most people. She had versions for very cold Canadian Winters, and lighter spring weights. Dressy were longer, and everyday coats were car coat length for ease of driving.
I’m not sure if you’ve already done this, but a wider sleeve with 3/4 or elbow length sleeve made in a satin or silk would be called an Opera coat. I need to work up the nerve to make myself one. I love the vintage yet classic style that has really stood the test of time. I recently found a shorter navy wool version with a really long pointed collar at Zara! It has wrist length wider sleeves, same style as your pattern. I couldn’t believe I found one! I love your channel and style. ❤️🇨🇦
ohmygawwd! you look precious!! i love it!!! FANTASTIC!!!
Thank you 🥹💕❤️
Очень красиво. Благодарю Вас что делитесь своим творчеством. Благодарю за Ваш труд ❤
I love swing coats. I have an evening one in taffeta, I no longer have a daytime one. Yours is beautiful!! ❤
Thank you ❤️💕 they are so beautiful! I would love one in every color 😂😂
Beautiful work! Took me down memory lane. I have the same sewing machine which I bought in the late 70s! Made a grey wool pin striped coat on it in the 80s that I loved. My favorite coat for years was my wool winter white coat… sadly the moths finally had their way with it 😢.
Sorry about the fate of your you-made coat. Darned moths! You made me remember my late grandma, who lived in Connecticut. She used a LOT of mothballs when storing her woolen clothes. I have no idea how she got the mothball smell out-maybe she took the clothes to the dry cleaner’s?
@@sewingintrifocals-alisonde7778I have friends who use them. Ugh I hate that smell more than the moths do!
great to see such a sunny happy colour. Totally agree about the wools : bring back some spicy colours. There is to much camel and black wool. THe brighter hues allows cars to see us when walking at supper time or in the evening when it is already dark (i.e., 4:30 pm) or early in the morning (ie: 6:30am). Companies would be enhancing our safety and we can enhance our moods with joyful colours. Beautiful coat. THat pattern is amazingly versatile but you also have a great imagination and and are truly artistically creative.
Love the coat. You spoke so highly of the this pattern, I decided to get one for myself. Your coat looks lovely. Can’t wait to see what you sew next.
Oooh that delicious yellow! It will look gorgeous on you😊. Another fabulous job Sewrena😂❤!!.
This is so lovely! You are an inspiration, SewRena. Beautiful coat!
I've always wanted a coat like that since I was a little girl
Fabulous 🌼, looks great on you🌼.
I was worried about the colors at first but now that was beautiful 🤩!!!
Beautiful
I’m in love with that yellow
As always, this is so elegant. The colors are very complimentary. If I were to make coats like this. I'd love to make a Mardi Gras color comb coat. Also, a black one with antique gold and satin accent.
But, for regular wear a burnt orange with brown satin.
Wow! Absolutely stunning! I would love to try this as I have the pattern. Thanks for showing us how versatile patterns really are, we just need the vision ❤
Magnificent it truly is you look so classy and high fashion chich congratulations Sewrena 😊❤👌🪡🧵
Gorgeous again, lol. I always said that Red was your best color but this yellow truly does look amazing.
Thank you 💕 I love red but I still struggle to wear it outside of the holidays because it feels so bold! I want a red coat or a red suit
Oh my goodness this is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Great job, your coat turned out beautifully.
It’s so cute!! Love your matching coat and outfit sets!
You did an amazing job! And it looks so elegant on you.
That is so glamorous!
Your coat looks amazing! Your tutorial gives me the confidence to try it myself
I have not reached the end of the video yet, but all I can think of is how good you look in yellow, so I can’t wait to see how it looks at the end. I love the wide swing coats, too, so this is going to be so cool.
Edit to say, it’s gorgeous and I love it and I can’t wait to see the dress you make
Stunning!
Thanks for sharing 😊 14:41
Very Nice, I love the green touch.
❤❤❤ this coat. Its BEAUTIFUL. Great colour.
This is so lovely!! This coat reminds me of the Vogue V9340 but the Vogue has a hood and not wide sleeves. I love the color combo used. I think I would love a rust color wool with silver lining.
My Nana had a beautiful swing wool coat with a pillbox hat. It was the most vibrant turquoise blue with a chocolate lining. She wore elbow-length chocolate satin gloves and the hat had a chocolate-colored satin sash on it. With her glossy black hair and her alabaster skin with bright red lipstick, she shone like a diamond! I still can't find that beautiful blue anywhere. I replicated the colour to paint a car, but I couldn't find any type of material with this blue.
See this is what I’m talking about! More this💕❤️ I went out in my orange swing coat with a red satin lining I would
Have loved to see a bunch of colorful coats out
@@SewRena Oh, I forgot to ask, do you make a muslin version of your patterns before making the pattern in your chosen fabric? I was told to do this to have a fabric copy of the patterns and any changes in the patterns would be preserved with the muslin. I am horrible about throwing pieces that I think are scraps and throwing away a vital part. My sister told me to do this and it has been a creative way to preserve a pattern and to see how the pattern would fit and alterations can be done to the muslin form then transferred to the working pattern.
I do not see but have always wanted to. Your videos are so relaxing to me. I really admire your skill!
Awww you should give it a try 💕 thank you so much
YOU HAVE THE MOST Amazing CHANNEL CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCCESS
THANK YOU FOR ALL U DO.
Might i add u should do your own design label if u havent already.
Liked and shared and ready to enjoy watching your process!
This is beautiful!!!! I would love to make this!!
Wow another amazing piece!!!♥️ New subbie
Turquoise with a chartreuse lining.
Love the color
Gorgeous!
Ooh I love a yellow coat but I would love a black one with a bright pink lining. It’s conservative until the lining is seen. I’d love that bit of sass
That sounds lovely 😍😍
You did good, I love watching your channel.
I literally pinned this coat a month ago and was thinking about making it!!!! Sooooo happy you made a tutorial!! :))
Oh Boo Hoo Hoo! It looks savage on you!!!!!!
Beautiful coat-love the color!💛
Oh my goodness!did I tell you i have this pattern? Its been in queue to make as a houseboat for a few years. I wish my brain could help me figure out how to make it a coat. This is fabulous!
This is so awesome! I'm glad your short was recommended!
Thank you so much 💕 very few people make it from the shorts to my main channel so I appreciate you giving my work a chance.
Wow this is fabulous, I love the color so much 💕
so pretty 🎉
I’m watching with great interest during a rain storm here in Southern California. Yes, we really do get rain here, and yes, we’re bad at driving in the rain, ha-ha.
That coat looks warm and comfortable.
I’m 5’ tall and a little overweight, so I’m not sure how I’d look in a swing coat-but you look stunning. Maybe if the swing coat is just below the knee, I won’t look like I’m wearing a camping tent. 🤣
Thanks so much you would look FANTASTIC in a swing coat 😍😍😍
@@SewRena, yay! One of these days, I may make one. 😇
Ughhh, fine. I’ll start my sewing journey 😂❤
Well done, the coat's fantastic❣
Mind. Blown. This is stunning!
Beautiful! If I were to make this coat, I would probably do periwinkle blue as it is my favorite color and I would use a slate grey satin for the lining. I think they go well together and also suit my coloring.
That sounds lovely 😍😍 I would love to see that coat out and about
Yellow is the nicest color!! I am enjoying the making of it. thank you !!!!!
It turned out beautiful!
Wow!!! You even use a Sears Kenmore machine!!! Thank for 😮the project explanations, as they address several concerns I've had with lining coats.
Thank you 💕❤️ I love old machines.
I really love the look of the fur collar on a wool coat (green coat, of course). I have been searching for green wool to duplicate a coat I have (and love). Thanks for showing the interlining process, I will have to do that for sure.
I want to do the same but the thought of working with fur of any kind turns me off of the idea it’s so messy
@@SewRena Yes, I have watched a few videos on doing it, but the outcome will be so delicious....lol.
So gorgeous!! I’ve been wanting to sew a wool swing coat and the hunt for the perfect wool fabric has also been tough 🥲 this vid is giving me the motivation to continue searching bc yours came out amazing
Absolutely beautiful!!
