This was me and my husband’s song. If I heard it while I was in the car driving, I would call him and we would listen to it together. He is no longer with us. I miss him terribly.
so great to hear players that can absolutely kick butt and take no prisoners-aside from being one of the best LIVE vocal bands ever...Orleans was under appreciated...
Larry Hoppen was one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. He handed me a signed CD of ORLEANS Live and I played that until it disintegrated. So talented and humble.
One of the most under appreciated bands of all time. The talent is over the top. On the recording of this song in 1976, the dueling guitars is some of the best you'll ever hear this side of Lynard Skynard doing Freebird. These guys are some serious musicians.
I saw them way back when '76 or '77. at what they called the "Mountain Aire" concerts up in the Califorina foothills by Angels Camp with Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne? and a couple other great acts that I don't remember.. but what I do remember is the Orleans guys would get up and switch instruments in between songs, they could all play just about any instrument! Really really amazing musicians!
Actually, not only did he have the distinctive upper range vocal ability and lead singing role, but the guy was also a very good guitar player and instrumentalist. He and Hall made for a great duet of harmonic matching guitar leads in the tune. Hoppen was a very significant part of the Orleans sound all the way around. And, when I heard recently that he had taken his own life years ago, I was taken aback and distraught. Hurts when a major talent and musical force self-destructs.....suggests there was something going on. Hall pretty much admits as much in later day commentary. Sad
@@annecohen8927 Larry Hoppen had a high tenor voice. He sang lead on "Still The One." John Hall could sing baritone. A good example is his answering vocal at the end of "Still The One." An amazing band.
Love it!!!! Still The One in 2023, just as good of a song then as it is now. The music is fantastic, guitar, vocals, and l love the way the drummer has his drums tuned Great job guys!!!!
A great memory: They did some dates with us on a short Hawaiian tour when I was with Gary Puckett for a stretch. Robbie Dupree was along & sounded great, too. It was in the 80s. Gorgeous weather, good crowds, Blue Hawaiians...Man, it was sweet! RIP Larry..
These guys aren't no spring chickens, and for them to be able to still do this at their age now it's tremendously awesome. And I'm so blessed that day are still with us performing at a high level and giving so many people the enjoyment today that they gave us back in the seventies when I was 18 years old
From a bygone era when bands with harmonized guitar solos were all the rage. Orleans, Little River Band & Eagles were the top of the heap in my book, because along with some interesting guitar arrangements, each of these bands also had amazing vocals, composed memorable tunes, and could deliver a live performance equal to or better than the studio version. This is a great example.
And JK Simmons on bass voice. In reality I dreamt about this after 20 years and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Everyone needs to just shut up and get over the hive mind and love each other. If it was 1 on 1 with someone you hate sitting in a room just talking it would be a better world.
I get a chuckle when I see 70's rockers still performing but now they look like dads from a regular neighborhood. Nice to hear their voices and instrument playing are still rockin. Wow !! Fabulous song. Really positive and upbeat. Love it. Makes me feel good when I hear it.
Still the One was our song. My first boyfriend and I would listen to this song, so many great memories. I still miss him today. Rest in Peace Tim. Love you.
I've always loved this song, I remember hearing it with the love of my life, unfortunately I wasn't hers, a few years later we parted and I never got over losing her, I'll love her until the day I die.
Best melody & harmony lead guitar arrangement ever written. I’ll add that this song is the perfect example of music from the 70s: none of it sounded the same because everything was a "do your own thing" attitude. Therefore, nearly all the music was original sounding and excellent. I think that decade will go down as the best time for rock music, in American history.
my god! this song is perfect in every way. most melodic and catchy, wow. is amazing how just 4 minutes can make so many people happy. but it does. thanks guys. u nailed it!
Still one of my favorite bands of all time... They had it all. Great off the charts vocals and harmonies, and John and Larry were two Strat masters.... They played some of the best, tastiest leads and guitar harmonies ever.. Just great music...
God Bless Larry! I wear your name on my Awareness shirt every time I walk. So many great nights at the Joyous Lake hearing your voice and the rest of the guys. Peace in Heaven.
That is such joyous music. This is the song I first heard in 1976 driving home from the birth of my son. Wife is asleep in the hospital after hours of labor, I'm pooped at 7am and the kid is off in a bassinet somewhere in Kaiser, Redwood City. I put the radio on and this, the perfect song came out. Who says there's no magic in the land? Orleans, wife, kid... you're still the one! Love you all.
They're all really cool and special people. There will never be another 'Larry'. But they still carry the torch very well and that is quite admirable....(particularly for his brothers)! RIP Larry. You made 'it happen' man*****

Still the One
John Hall
We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear
You're still the one -- I want to talk to in bed
Still the one -- that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow
You're still the one -- that makes me laugh
Still the one -- that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one -- that makes me strong
Still the one -- I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one (yes you are)
Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new
You're still the one -- that I love to touch
Still the one -- and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one -- who can scratch my itch
Still the one -- and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You are still the one -- that makes me shout
Still the one -- that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one, yeah still the one
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
