One of the most under appreciated bands of all time. The talent is over the top. On the recording of this song in 1976, the dueling guitars is some of the best you'll ever hear this side of Lynard Skynard doing Freebird. These guys are some serious musicians.

I saw them way back when '76 or '77. at what they called the "Mountain Aire" concerts up in the Califorina foothills by Angels Camp with Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne? and a couple other great acts that I don't remember.. but what I do remember is the Orleans guys would get up and switch instruments in between songs, they could all play just about any instrument! Actually, not only did he have the distinctive upper range vocal ability and lead singing role, but the guy was also a very good guitar player and instrumentalist. He and Hall made for a great duet of harmonic matching guitar leads in the tune. Hoppen was a very significant part of the Orleans sound all the way around. And, when I heard recently that he had taken his own life years ago, I was taken aback and distraught. Hurts when a major talent and musical force self-destructs.....suggests there was something going on. Hall pretty much admits as much in later day commentary. Sad

From a bygone era when bands with harmonized guitar solos were all the rage. Orleans, Little River Band & Eagles were the top of the heap in my book, because along with some interesting guitar arrangements, each of these bands also had amazing vocals, composed memorable tunes, and could deliver a live performance equal to or better than the studio version. This is a great example.

Best melody & harmony lead guitar arrangement ever written.
I’ll add that this song is the perfect example of music from the 70s: none of it sounded the same because everything was a "do your own thing" attitude. Therefore, nearly all the music was original sounding and excellent. I think that decade will go down as the best time for rock music, in American history.

    Still the One
    John Hall
We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear
You're still the one -- I want to talk to in bed
Still the one -- that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow
You're still the one -- that makes me laugh
Still the one -- that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one -- that makes me strong
Still the one -- I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one (yes you are)
Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new
You're still the one -- that I love to touch
Still the one -- and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one -- who can scratch my itch
Still the one -- and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You are still the one -- that makes me shout
Still the one -- that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one, yeah still the one
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

Not only was this a big hit for Orleans but it took on a whole new life later when ABC adopted the song for their TV promos.

IIRC, they used it for the fall of 1980, when ABC had been #1 in the ratings for 4 years. They tweaked the lyrics "YOU'RE still having fun, and WE'RE (ABC) still the one". The spots featured stars of ABC shows holding up their index finger in the classic #1 sign. So of course, CBS, on the strength of shows like Dallas, overtook ABC for #1 for the 1980-81 season. I though that was funny as hell . :D

@@transitfan954 It was really a great marketing tool, great catchy toon and with cable still in its infancy, mainstream channels TV still ruled.

They sound great! I have everything they've ever done on vinyl. I still blast it throughout my house just about every week. Waking & Dreaming is still one of the best albums ever made. John Hall solo work is also spectacular.

It was a joy to see Larry having so much fun. A very talented musician and singer. But the laughter did end. We still have great clips like this to show us what it was like.

Love the music these guys put together. Made me want to learn to play and sing. I play Still the One almost every day.
