Ruth O'Connor Fisher (1946 - 2025)
Ruth Fisher was born in Pasadena in 1946 and died at Good Samaritan Hospital of Glendale on Wednesday. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1963 and stayed home to raise three children before opening the Four Paws Pet Retreat in Topanga Canyon twenty years ago.
She is survived by her loving companion George Sibley, her sister Sarah O'Connor, her son David Fisher of Los Angeles and her daughter Claire Fisher of New York City. Ruth will also be missed by her four cherished grandchildren - Maya Fisher, Willa Chenowith, and Anthony and Durrell Charles-Fisher.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 2 p.m. at Fisher & Sons Funeral Home at 2302 W. 25th Street in Los Angeles. Private burial to follow.
Keith Dwayne Charles (1968 - 2029)
Keith Charles, founder of Charles Security Company, was born in 1968 in San Diego. He died suddenly at work on Tuesday morning.
Keith attended West Point Military Academy, graduating with a degree in Criminology in 1989. He served the city of Los Angeles as a member of the LAPD for nine years before joining the security industry. He leaves behind his devoted husband David Fisher and loving sons Durrell and Anthony Charles-Fisher, his grandson Matthew, his sister Karla Charles and his niece Taylor Benoit of Carlsbad. Keith is pre-deceased by his parents Roderick and Lucille Charles of San Diego. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 18th at 2 p.m. at Fisher & Sons Funeral Home at 2302 W. 25th Street in Los Angeles.
David James Fisher (1969 - 2044)
Born January 20, 1969. Died at the age of 75 in Echo Park. He was proud owner and operator of Fisher & Sons Funeral Home of Los Angeles for over forty years. After retiring in 2034, he went on to perform in dozens of local theater productions, including Weill and Brecht's "Threepenny Opera," Rossini's "The Barber of Seville," and as Ebenezer Scrooge in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." David leaves behind his partner Raoul Martinez, his beloved sons Durrell and Anthony Charles-Fisher, his sister Claire Fisher and his three precious grandchildren Matthew, Keith, and Katie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern California Opera Association
Hector Federico Diaz (1974 - 2049)
Died at the age of 75 while vacationing with his wife in Puerto Rico. Federico graduated from Cyprus College in 1997 with a degree in Mortuary Science. He worked as a restorative artist for several years before becoming part owner of Fisher & Diaz Funeral Home on 25th Street. In 2005, Federico opened the Diaz Family Mortuary on DeLongpre Avenue in Hollywood, where he served the community for 35 years before retiring.
Pre-deceased by his parents Mauricio and Lilia Diaz of Los Angeles. He was married to his beloved wife Vanessa for 54 years and leaves behind his cherished sons Julio and Augusto and his three grandchildren: Emily, Celestina and Vincent.
Memorial service will be held at Diaz Family Mortuary on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. the following day at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Atwater Village.
Brenda Chenowith (1969 - 2051)
Brenda Chenowith was born July 19, 1969 and died at the age of 82 at home. She earned her Masters Degree in Social Work at California State University of Los Angeles and a PhD in Theories of Human Behavior at University of Southern California.
Brenda wrote several books about the role of the gifted child in family development. She is considered to be one of the most distinguished scholars in that field of study, adding several courses to the Social Work curriculum at USC. She developed research methodologies to conclusively prove the link between deviant human behavior and fetal alcohol exposure. As a child, Brenda was the subject of the book "Charlotte Light and Dark" by Gareth Feinberg, PhD.
Brenda will be dearly missed by her beloved children Maya Fisher, Willa Chenowith, and Forrest Nathanson, her loving husband Daniel Nathanson, and her brother William Chenowith of Malibu. Private services will be held Wednesday March 9th at Deep Creek Nature Preserve. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Claire Simone Fisher (1983 - 2085)
Born March 13, 1983. Died February 11, 2085 in Manhattan. Claire grew up in Los Angeles and studied art at LAC-Arts College. She worked as an advertising and fashion photographer and photojournalist for nearly fifty years, creating several memorable covers for Washington Post magazine, W, and The Face. Claire often exhibited her work in New York and London art galleries and in a time when nearly everyone else in her field had turned to digital scanning and computer-driven imaging, she continued to use a silver-based photographic process. Claire began teaching photography as a faculty member at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2018, earning tenure in 2028. She's pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ted Fairwell.

It's absolutely brutal
This is the first, and only, episode to start not with a death, but with a birth.
Rachel Griffiths (Brenda) was actually pregnant throughout Series 5.
The voice on the phone calling Claire to tell her she no longer has a job in New York is the voice of Alan Ball.
The person sitting behind Rico and Vanessa at David and Keith's wedding is Alan Poul, one of the producers and directors.
In case you didn't do the Maths, Claire lived to be 102!
The reason the end credits roll slowly here, in the style of film credits, is because Alan Ball insisted at HBO that, for the last episode, everyone in the crew should have time enough to read their own names on the screen.
If you haven't seen 'American Beauty', which was written by Alan Ball, you should. It's the thing which made him famous and it made it possible for him, a couple of years later, to be the showrunner for 'Six Feet Under'.

Thank you for reacting to this series -- far too few people do and it's just one of the greatest, most rewarding TV shows I've ever experienced. I hope a lot more reactors follow your example because it truly deserves to be re-discovered by a whole new generation. I can remember being in my 20's in NYC when it first came out, and when this finale aired, we sobbed and sobbed. It literally felt like losing people I'd known in real life somehow, haha. I'll never get over Six Feet Under and the characters in it. So thank you. It's been fun revisiting it all through your eyes, and I know we were ALL waiting for this last reaction, truly one of the most-revered and emotionally satisfying finales to any show. ❤❤❤

Don’t forget the actor who plays Oliviet is Alan Balls husband 😉 One thing in particular that I really appreciated about your reaction was this. You knew when someone was imagining talking with someone deceased, it was their own fears and thoughts.
Did you notice that when Ruth phoned up Maggie where Maggie was? She was getting a pregnancy update.
The way Alan Ball chose to end the series was hauntingly beautiful. We got to see these beloved characters take their last breath. Like you said, it made us think of our own mortality.

Just missed the live chat! Dang! That shot of Nate running in the rear-view mirror and slowly dropping out out of frame is the most beautiful shot of the show, and still makes instantly weep. Follow it up with the rest of the montage with just a perfect song. I watched the finale when it aired with about five other friends, and no one could contain themselves. We all ugly cried. Lots of hugging happened.
Alan Ball outdid himself with this episode. Every actor gave some of their best performances. The reconciliation between Ruth and Claire was so beautiful, seeing Rico and Vanessa move on to the next chapter of their lives was cute, David finally embracing (literally) himself and letting go of the fear that's been holding him back was so fulfilling, Claire deciding to take her life into uncharted waters was a very fitting send-off for her, and Anthony & Durrell warming up to Keith and David was so wholesome!
I think that Brenda passing away while Billy rattles on about needing closure was hilarious- he literally talked her to death! Clair lived to be 102 and lived her best life. Keith getting murdered was shocking, but it was so sweet that David saw him just before he passed.
God, I love this show so much. Rewatch it every few years, because you'll find deeper meaning in certain places as you grow and as life gives you the good, the bad, and the ugly.

How could you not cry watching all of your favorite characters dying?
I remember the day that I watch the last episode of this serie.
I binge all the season within 2 weeks, and really felt for the Fisher family : seeing their daily life, crisis, joy, struggle, surprises... it felt like being a part of this family.
I couldn't stop crying at the last episode, and felt like I was grieving myself this family that brought me so much emotionally and spiritually speaking than my own family.
This show really impacted me, especially since the first season was aired a year after my mother passed away.
I identified A LOT with the character of Claire Fisher : I was around the same age, as emotional and impulsive than her, with a lot of creativity that I wanted to express.
I ended up doing photography as well by my free time, this character helped me so much to grow, and just like her : always falling for the wrong guy.
The Fisher family showed me as well what was a true caring family and opened my eyes that mine was very neglecting, something that I didn't want to accept back then, always struggling to be loved by a family that never really cared about me and was always rejecting me.
This show saved me in so many way, also helped me to cope with death and grieve. It has a special place in my heart.
The finale is a masterpiece. It is the best episode of television I have ever seen, and the show overall is one of the best TV shows of all time, in my opinion. I have enjoyed rewatching this with you! What are we gonna do now that it's over?? 😥😘

Definitely the hardest I've cried at a TV show. Cried again at this video many years later. My other big cries include 2 deaths on Lost (Hope that's not a spoiler. No specifics!) and one on Breaking Bad. Iykyk. I'm sure there were others, but those stick out in memory. Fortunately, I enjoy crying! 😭👍 Oh wait, how did I forget The Last of Us?! Some good tears in that one.
Of course the best TV show has the greatest finale of all time. The last five minutes gets me every time
Six feet under is easily a top three show ever made (I only have the wire and game of thrones ahead of it) but six feet under has by far the best ending
@@raymondsims7042 Yep, The Wire is also excellent but GOT fell off really badly at the end so it's impossible for me to even put it in the same regard as the aforementioned shows.

Bojack Horseman isn't light. It gets very heavy. I've watched Six Feet Under through dozens of times since seeing it during the original HBO run & usually follow it up with a funny palette cleansing. I suggest 'Superstore'. It's got well developed characters & heart but is also absurd & hilarious.
Came here for the ugly crying. Still to this day cannot listen to BREATHE ME BY SIA without bursting into very ugly crying.
Legitimately one of the best written, preformed and edited finales I’ve ever come across, equal to emotional finale of The Good Place. Not many shows can deal with the complexities of life and death, and end with watching the characters you’ve grown to love meet their timely ends and still have you screaming this is so beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this show! If you’re looking for something to fill the void with similar emotional beats, The Good Place, definitely recommend! Probably one of the best shows about life after death!
Another show by Alan Ball ( creator of six feet under) is Trueblood. Definitely a different vibe, with less emotional endings but still an interesting ride especially if you like supernatural things!
If you’re liking our flag means death, consider Good Omens or What we do in the Shadows. Both are great companions to OFMD!

I will never forget watching the end of Six Feet Under. I binged watched the last 5 episodes in a row during an allnighter, I cried all the water of my body, I ended up howling to the moon like a wolf. I had no more tears in me, but I was suffering all the same. I mourned Nate with the rest of the Fishers, I felt part of the family. And it is so precious to me as my best friend introduced me to the show, we came out to each other thanks to the show, I felt so close to David of course, becoming an adult and seeing his story on screen. And then for my 21st birthday, my best friend offered me the set of the last season. Which I watched religiously. I felt so sad that night, so alone, but at the same time feeling so close to my best friend who had been through the same cathartic experience of that last scene, and you now. 1 month later I was meeting my boyfriend of 15 years now. This show was me growing up, it's impossible for me to think of my life without the experience of it. Something died in me that night. But something else was born too. A strength, an understanding about life. And of course, just like Claire, I started to live an entire new life afterwards. Thank you so much for your reaction, and sharing your tears with us: you have made me cried with you too.
Thank you for sharing your emotional journey and honest thoughts watching all five series. It brought back my own memories of seeing these episodes each week many years ago and seeing the development of each character. Though often sad and sometimes tense, the writing could also be laugh-out-loud funny - not bad when the subject is mortality! It really was a ground-breaking show then, and still stands up well now. I had to take a moment before I could write this comment. I ended up getting a bit emotional from watching your reaction and from seeing the final scenes again. I've been meaning to give the finale a rewatch next month as that will mark one year since I've finished this beautiful show
Wow, does it still ever have it's impact. It's definitely a bittersweet finale but it also shows that this is the cycle of life. Death comes for us all and like the tagline for this series says "Everything Ends."
I absolutely love the quote that "Nate's spirit" says to Claire at the end. "You can't take a picture of this it's already gone." I took it as, we are constantly moving forward in life and time stands still for no one. Even if we so desperately want to freeze a moment in time just to savor it a little longer. Every minute of everyday that we live becomes but a distant memory in the past. Which is why we should focus more on living in the present instead of living in our minds and soak up every moment this life gives to us. It's easier said than done and something I still personally struggle with.
Just like when "Nate" tells Claire to go for it, even if she dosen't feel ready or know what she's doing...I felt that in my soul. I want to pursue all of my passions but I don't know where to start or how to navigate that. But, like you, wanting to pursue your dream and passions, I feel like I'm getting to an age where my time is running out and I don't want to end up like Nate never fully doing what he wanted from his life.
The first scene that got me chocked up was when Nate was running in Claire's side mirror as she was leaving and he slowly fades out of view. Signifying her moving on with her life and the moment I felt Nate was truly gone. So symbolic for Nates character too as he loved to run and keep healthy because he was always afraid of death.
Ruth dying while seeing her first love and first born while being surrounded by the family was so beautiful and so sad. At least she passed away peacefullly. (Also loved how Ted came back to Claire during Ruth's funeral. Shows that Ted was one of the good ones, someone Claire deserves and if it's meant to be, fate will have a way to bring two people back together even in a time of loss and grief)
Keith unexpectedly dying from bank robbers was crushing. At least he died doing what he loved.
David seeing a vision of young Keith before he died is beautifully sad. David and Keith really were soulmates and I'm glad David had that moment of peace before his sudden stroke.
It really was Brenda and Billy till the end. Rachel Griffiths the actress who played Brenda said in an interview that she felt like Brenda had enough of Billy's shit and would rather die than spend a second more listening to him LMAO. That's so in character for Brenda. Poor Billy tho, I could only imagine how he took it. I'm also surprised that he outlasted Brenda lol. (*Side note, you should totally check out the reunion interview special, it's so heartwarming and fun to see them all together again, lets us know we still have the Fisher family out there in the world*)
Then finally Claire's death. She lived the longest out of the Fisher family and lived a full fulfilling life doing what she loved. It looked like she ended up developing cataracts which is bittersweet because her sight was so crucial for her art and photography. That close up shot of Claire when she's on her death bed, is very reminiscent of her own art
An amazing series finale. Such a well crafted and executed episode with the final five minutes cementing SFU as a masterpiece. Wraps everything up in a bow, by letting us be with each character we've been emotionally invested in during their final breath. (Which i've never seen done in a show) it's very satisfying but it's so fitting with it being a series about death and our own mortality. Quickly made it my favourite Tv series of all time. Both the pilot and this finale are works of art and feels more like a film
There's so much to say about this finale and this series as a whole, but I've said enough. This was one hell of a journey and I'm so happy that you reacted to and stuck with SFU. Hopefully this does inspire other reactors to watch this amazing series, as it deserves to be seen. I constantly recommend it to all my family and friends. I'm rewatching it again with a friend of mine and i'm still so giddy about the show. This might sound crazy but I feel like it's not the typical series. It changes you. It certainly made my perception of life and death all the more clear and makes me wanna cherish the time I have left with my family. I bawled after the finale in the kitchen to my mom cause my Nan has Dementia and it just hit too close to home 😭
I'll definitely be revisiting SFU in the future to see how it reflects within my life at that point in time. Nate in the rear-view mirror is my absolute favorite shot of any TV show ever. It says so much. If I never need to nudge myself toward a cathartic ugly cry, I think of that shot, that moment, and the dam breaks. Glad you picked up on the beauty of that shot, too!

There was a fantastic movie in the 70s called American Graffiti. The movie had a denomet not dissimilar to 6 feet under. It was certainly different but had a gripping closing to the movie. The 6 feet under closing was longer ,beautifully shot, and the song was gut-wrenching, obviously. But these are not clever or difficult endings. They are in fact quite rote but very very effective. We felt closure after feeling being characters, not just spectators in these great productions. Closure is all we ask for. Hardly ever get it.
I finished it (for the first time) last night and omg I was NOT prepared. I cried just like you if not more, and LOUD. I BAWLED hysterically that my son came downstairs to ask what was going on 😂 I haven’t cried that hard for anything on TV in my entire life, not even Grey’s Anatomy. This show was so incredibly profound, I feel like I will be grieving every single character for a good while. What a ride!

I watched this when it first came out, I was 19 (I'm 40 now) ..and the weeks leading up to the finale, it was leaked that the whole cast would die. So everyone was Guessing how it would happen. I remember thinking they all died from carbon monoxide poisoning. I was convinced that the reason the characters kept having hallucinations throughput the show bc carbon monoxide was slowly leaking into the funeral home. I'm glad I was wrong. SFU finale will always be my favorite.
I knew you were going to lose it at the end sequence just like i did when i first watched it- and every time i have since. Even that song triggers tears. Best. Ending. Ever. Also the most emotional. I so wanted to give you a hug as you cried...so i sent one virtually. Stay amazing, friend 🧡

Okay, when this finale premiered Gay marriage was illegal across the United States of America. This future they showed was insane but within reach. So to see David finally marry was impossible to us viewers at the time. But it became a possibility.
There could never be a more poignant ending to an ensemble cast. They all evoked deep emotions in me over the years. I also credit them for making me see death in a less scary way. Easily one of my top favorite series of all time. Thanks for the complete series reaction!

I jumped in about halfway through your livestream on my lunch break. I'm skipping back to the beginning. Congratulations on finishing this wonderful series. Since you're looking for a new show but want something lighter, I'm going to suggest The Good Place because it deals with similar themes but in a much lighter way.
I'd second that recommendation about The Good Place. It's a wonderfully quirky show, well written, and well acted.

But i would agree. Season 1 is also my favourite. Season 2,3 and 5 i love for different reasons and they are hard to rank for me. Season 4 has definitly some weaker episodes and storylines.

i did extremely enjoyed this series very much but i did not appreciate the last minutes, why do series have to wrapped up a show in an acceptable "package with a pretty bow", i like question marks, why not leave it open, i do know i am weird
if you want to understand Marge, Brenda's mother, check her out in Bladerunner (1983), what Harrison Ford did to her you would forgive her actions and Brenda was a wild one in her younger days check out Murial's Wedding (1993)
Many tv shows ending have an open ending, I personally think this was perfect, because I don't think the point is to tell us literally the future of these characters but rather showing that everyone is eventually gonna meet the inevitable death, and that's the whole purpose of the show to me, because I don't think these are real endings to the characters that's just me though
