Yes so we have done most of what is required to legalize the unit except for expanding the window in the living space. I chose not to legalize it even though I can simply because I will loose the primary residence tax exception on the basement if its a legal unit. In future if I move out it should be pretty straightforward to legalize.
Yes a 2 story home comes with a smaller basement footprint so the space is not so big. We were able to utilize all the space that exists which ended up being perfect for a studio apartment
Yes it's a bachelor apartment, just a living space kitchen and bathroom. It was a fairly small basement, around 600 sqft less the mechanical room and stairs. It's not the ideal basement apartment as it's smaller however it really suited my needs to cover some of my costs while living in the 2 floors above and having direct access to the backyard
I’m moving into my first apartment next week it’s in a basement at least it 2 blocks from my parents house so I don’t have to learn a new town lol

Given you had a 2-storey house, was there a limit on the interior floor area that you could use in the basement as a secondary suite?
