Oh yeah! This is the crowd pleaser and the band pleaser---a win-win. Fun, funky, hip, groovy---call it what you want, this chart is excellent in every way . If you have a decent bari player, he or she will really love this one. Some features are written-out solos for alto and tenor sax, a stop-time for the saxes, a fantastic interlude section, a monster shout chorus and some short drum fills. Optional parts are included, too! (4:43) This title is available in SmartMusic.

Ok so in my band room there was a chalkboard from before the room got a whiteboard, and on it was this amazing drawing of a guy in a suit with a watermelon for a head. No one knows who drew it, because it was so long ago, even before the current band teacher. I’m pretty sure that picture was from this song, and I now feel like I’ve stumbled upon some hidden conspiracy secret right now.
Unfortunately, the school hired a new janitor this year who erased the famed piece of art. Such a tragedy. Now all that remains on the chalkboard is a crudely drawn gravestone. R.I.P. watermelon man you will be missed.
Now the only weird things in the band room is the skull next to the timpani and the 20 year old sandwich on the ceiling lights. :(
we have a 3 year old muffin on a high up part and its starting to smell
JOYturtle we have a spilled carton of milk under the risers that’s been there longer then when the graduating seniors last year were freshmen
gamer our Male bathroom has blood on the ceiling.
we've gotta cardboard cut-out of one of the teachers at our school, a door labeled "ninja exit only", a banana suit on top of the percussion storage shelf, an angry face made of electrical tape, and my friends and I put band propaganda posters all over the orchestra room.
@@GTVStudiosWith-Gio-And-Will we literally have a gummy bear suck to the ceiling for who knows how long, ive been there 2 years and it is still there
I love this piece with a passion. I love playing the bari saxophone part!
ThatOneMeowth ikr! The bari part sounds epic!

I remember playing this in jazz band back in middle school, I played the alto sax.. It's so nostalgic now-
Me listening to this song a few hours before my rehearsal on this song is stressful 😂😂😂😂
I played this for the Lional Hampton Jazz Festival in Febuary this year, and we got almost perfect scores in the 3D division (I'm in the second band). It was definitely a favorite of the class, it's so much fun! Our flute soloist was AWESOME!! I am a bari sax player and it was sooo much fun! We finally have a chance to be heard!! Like if you play bari!!
3:30 omg I cannot stop listening to this part! It’s so good! I played this on alto in middle school and now I am a bari player. I want to play this on bari so badly!
Imagine this groove with the melody from the Peter Gunn theme

Herbie always has the best lines. As a bari sax player, I enjoyed playing his compositions like Cantaloupe island and watermelon man. Bravo!
W bari
Turn on x1.25 speed for even more of a jam
The audio quality is quite good
Feels illegal to be getting this jammy at 11:45pm
Last year I had to double up as bari and tenor 1 for this song and I loved every moment of it. I hope to play it in my last year of high school!!!
Good memories, playing this 4 years ago, my freshman year in high school. Jazz II was legendary
This sounds so similar to cantaloupe island, with the chord and intensity progressions. Even the baselines are almost identical at some parts.
(I know they have the same arrangers)
ikr
jeez someone really loves their fruits
This was and still is my favorite piece I have ever played for jazz band. I seriously don’t think I will ever get tired of it
I love this song so much I remember playing the sax solo in my grade 10 year of high school
Great arrangement. Wow. A+++
Those drum fills at the end tho, that's what I call str8 spittin' fire
Great for boogaloo! I cant help just hop around when I listen to this basic samba!
That ending, goosebumps (if you are wearing headphones tho)
@@TecheyyXD i'm pretty sure that's just the drummer improvising
I was intrigued by the title, and now I want to play this in Jazz. We just played a concert, and looking for new music.
This is my Dad’s account but I am a girl and my boyfriend plays the bari saxophone 🎷 and I play tenor saxophone 🎷 in the same jazz band with him. We are playing this song in our jazz band and we both have solos.
James Slygh How did it go?
@@kevinhornbuckle I'm picturing a middle aged man staring at his phone in utter confusion wondering why someone named Kevin Hornbuckle is asking him how a jazz concert went
Why are you on your dad's account

Pretty sure this is the exact arrangement I play in my band class. But we have a really small band. Like, around 9 horns and 7 in the rhythm section.

alto sax solo part keeps messing me up because it sorta follows the recording and sort of not follow it
The recording has two solos, the first one is the tenor sax solo if I'm right.
