This chart swings! A sensational chart that captures the collaboration of Ellington and Strayhorn, played around 130 BPM. Lead trumpet plays to written A with optional high C. Solos written out for trombone, alto, trumpet, and tenor. Great use of plunger mutes for trumpets. Excellent chart in every way!

Last year I was at district jazz and we played this. Our director was Mike Kamuf. I got to hear him play a trumpet solo for the "rocky 12th round theme" it was amazing.
I made the mistake of taking first trumpet on this. Time to work on my range
A wild Filing I took the mistake of first trombone
@@Shnewbi that doesnt have any high notes tho?
@@cadentrombone5345 I was in middle school

@@Shnewbigood shit bro u from Texas huh😂 I’m over here from cali one day you prolly woulda seen me in the la phill but i didn’t wanna keep doing music
Damn, this and “Well you Needn’t”. Mike Kamuf just can’t help himself with these half time shuffles lmao
😂
Heard this for the first time last night at the University I work at. Loved it!
this song plays when a 50s mobster walks to some shady business
Sounds like something you’d hear in a night bar
i'm new to jazz, first time i heard this i thought the main theme is good for a gangsta rap track :D
This wouldn't be good, 'cause it does'nt even Sound like Gangsta rap
Since I’m trombone I play that awesome jazz vibe beat
Same bro
the bassline 🔥
wow perfect assemble
Just played this for my concert last night, I was the drummer and it was amazing
I’m a drummer at my university’s jazz ensemble and this is crazy fun to play, especially the funk beat
@@jasonpeck6676 i was in middle school when i said this lol, it was really fun to play though and I want to do it again
Good.
0:22 This section could benefit from giving the pianist a Rhodes electric piano for comping, and a synth bass keyboard for the unison sections with the actual bass/bassist. This can also work for Mike's take on Well You Needn't.
holy shit this is dark and I love it
😍
Less was our big band conductor at the University of Windsor --and I was at the piano. OK he is a genius! I'd like to gat a hold of him but how?? any ideas ?

As awesome as this arrangement is, there’s just one thing I wish they would’ve included: trombone melody at 0:50 like in the original
Too fast!!!
Bryce Rosenwald - Duke recorded it slower but check this version out czcams.com/video/UeGtdRz-bkA/video.html
