My name is lonnie. I’m friends with some of the people who knew him and it threw them back when they heard my name. Him and Zexor passed on the same day. Old School & New School writers brought to emotions on the same day.
I just met him last night...He is a very cool Brother down to earth. He is still very much into art. and he showed me some of his current projects...a hobby of creating anime inspired robots...Dope!!!!

When told a lot of people the same thing he did saying in regards to when I was seeing tags and throws in the 70s, 71, they beefed with me. I used to ask my grand mother and older cousins what that was on the walls they used to shut me down and beef about it. I got smacked when I wrote on walls W/ A CRAYON AND THAT WAS 5 YRS OLD! 69, 70. NEVER FORGIT THAT. DAMN, I ALWAYS LOVED GRAFF AND WILL TO THE DAY I DIE. Thanks so much for this.

Phase II has history and is humorous. I hope he will write a biography just as Fuzz One did to learn about what youth did in America's ghettos in the late 60s and early 70s. It's a very distorted history done by the media.

Had the honor of meeting Phase2 in the mid-90's at the Rock Steady Crew Anniversary. He was as intelligent, sharp, funny and insightful as you see here. The brother sings and does all sorts of artistic expression also.
If you know & respect PHASE2 you will never use the "G" word. This King is a library of knowledge... Weather it be dance(bboying), MCing, Aerosol Art, fashion, knowledge of self, or New York history… Phase Too is the TRUTH… A true living legend. I hope someone documents the life & times of this GREAT ICON

Saw some pieces this cat, riff, and someone else did in New Jersey last summer. Only got a camera phone shot of it, and by the end of the season some local toys shit all over it.
I felt like I was in a train yard looking at their walls and I wasnt even born to know that type of action, so imagine the impact!
Phase2 had a cool record also, but the producers messed with it too much.

Lonnie (his real name) is 100% accurate about the origins. Thing is that writing was obscured before the bronx cats blew it up. It hit the bronx (71/72) in really the first black counterculture America had ever known. (Wow wait, I never realized that). Post Vietnam draft post heroin addiction era. We owed the streets because the generation before us had been devastated. Youth culture > Gang culture > rebel culture > hip hop culture is how it happened. Graffiti culture was an elite select enlightened group of guy’s that emerged and Lonnie (Phase 2) was definitely “That dude!” We rarely called each other by our tag name except maybe Hot sauce (Kenny). Everybody loved Kenny. Little light skinned kid who was a prankster. Kenny could be a pain but you had to love him. HS 575 got around fo sho! It was a short lived era that became a globally recognized way of life. Before us there were NONE! And we knew it. It would be impossible to describe how exciting it was. I mean EVERY SINGLE FRIKKIN DAY!
It seemed like years before I could say I had a boring day in my teens.
If you’re young and feel kinda jealous of that era….. you should be! We had fun for a thousand lifetimes! Everybody was jealous of us even back then.

ok not sure how the writers movement is black culture, this started with spanish kids in east harlem, signatures and street numbers was started by puerto rican kids, whiteboys was writing since the beginning, this is not black culture, saying that is divisive and takes away from everything lonnie stated in this video, her said it " no them no us"...bronx cats did their thing but some of the biggest names out the bronx are also white dudes...it is not black culture please stop that
