    I am white and didn't know the history of blackface. I knew it was wrong, but didn't know the specifications of why.
    After watching this segment I was EDUCATED, as were a lot of other people, on what the history of blackface means/is.
    We are a forgiving, thoughtful, and ever learning country. We've got to come together to move forward.
    We also need to take into part our EDUCATION SYSTEM. There's clearly improvements that need to be made, which is why we need more FUNDING FOR EDUCATION

      i went to a predominantly white high school in Boise, ID class of 1997 with the foreign exchange students being the ones responsible for adding diversity to our school. We were taught in American History about blackface. It is being taught, but the real question is are people actually really paying attention and learning about our important American History.

      Stefan Unson Because there is a long history of dehumanising black people with blackface.... Context matters. If you truly admire that black person then why not listen to the black community opinion. After so many years of being on the racist end of the stick, can you blame them if they want all blackface to stop, no matter your intention?

    • @unknownunknowns
      @unknownunknowns Před 5 lety +1

      Benjamin Leow So sure blackface was considered racist in the past but it should not be always the case today! The whole point of dressing up is so people can tell the DIFFERENCE without asking. That mindset in the black community should change or you might as well do away with this tradition because all it does anyway is give people like Roland diabetes!

A lot of us lack the knowledge of each other’s history so yes I do forgive Megyn for not being familiar enough with the history of black face but this is why we must educated one another and ourselves on important issues like this so we don’t spread the lack of knowledge to other people or our children so we can be understanding of the racial issues that still exist today.

While the sombrero and pancho are traditional pieces in our culture, the alcohol in the hand is not. People think it's funny and fun to dress like this, but if you visit Mexico you will most likely never see anyone dressed this way. I feel it's just a lack of education and never being taught respect.

Any published statistics are generally from AI/AN organizations. I know about appropriation of culture and the harmful affects it has on marginalized communities. I’m a Hispanic; I’ve been living here for some time now first thing I learned was to respect and educate myself about the cultures in this beautiful national that has so many; I learned about Martin Luther king my first year being here even before I spoke English, he inspired me and still does I also learn and I’m still learning about African American culture and their struggle ( sadly many won’t agree with me but I think still going on) and how not only they were treated but also how many white individuals thought less of them; and to me learning that and finding it so disturbing, disgusting and sometimes hard to learn makes me so mad that so many people don’t want to even put this on books for our generations to see and know this is unexplainable; human beings tend to look the other way if is not affecting them and that’s not right in order to start healing all the atrocities of some of these ancestors they have to accept that is was not ok and even though I know they are not personally the ones that did it ask for forgiveness; because is so easy to say “just move on”, or not even speak about it but the stuff the African American community went through is something we need to acknowledge so future generations won’t repeat it and maybe that’s why they still being treated the way they are because some people don’t want to acknowledge it is still a problem

    Amy and Roland’s words REALLY ring true in 2020. I’m so grateful to hear this and learning about the history of racism. I definitely suggest watching the Sunday Morning CBS segment about blackface (it’s called “blackface: a cultural history of a racist art form)

    NBC is so out of touch with black people that they bring on Amy holmes and Rollie to represent. That tells you allot about that organization. They don't even know how much damage they did to whatever little credibility they had. Spent the last year whitewashing the network and the only time they bring on black folks is to clean up a PR gaffe. Who's next, Stephen A. Smith and Whitlock?!

    I love how Megyns tone changes. Now she sounds sympathetic, I don’t think she knew either but don’t pretend that now she’s understands sooo much and sooo deeply. She’s a good actor.

    Ronald, thanks for keeping it real. Time for the denial and excuses to stop. People should be held accountable not only to what they say but also for educating themselves, especially when you’re a public figure

    I don't particularly care for some of Meghan's political views but did feel she was definitely contrite in this segment. If we all take an honest look at ourselves, many of us have made mistakes. I'm pleased that NBC used this moment as a teaching lesson.

      There's really no excuse for a woman with her credentials of her age to not know that black face is not acceptable. There are certain things in our society that you cannot just continue to claim ignorance about and expect to get away with inappropriate words and behaviors.
