THE BIGGEST MISTAKE WITH LAG IN THE GOLF SWING ( Do This Instead! )

  • In this video I want to talk about a very common mistake that people make when trying to create lag. Although many people try and create lag in the golf swing to improve their distance, you have to be careful with how you are using your wrists otherwise you will definitely do more harm than good...

Where the heck has this guy been my entire golfing career. He understands the game not only for himself but, more importantly, for the typical golfer. His instruction is spot on. Can't wait to sign up for lessons. I have never posted a comment on youtube before and I have no association with or benefit from this review. I am truly impressed with his teaching and explanation of fundamental skills.

I'm a scratch player and have recently been feeling like I get "lag stuck", where my arms are pretty well in sync but I have so much lag near impact that I'm still forced to flip the club hard or try to almost come over the top and pull fade it with the driver to have any chance at hitting my target. This video gave me some great insight as to what I may be doing in transition to cause this. I don't necessarily feel like my wrist is cupped, but now I know there's no way for me to get that angle without cupping it. Great video and thanks for the tips!!

I am in the process of taking the game back up after 15 yr. hiatus due to sports injuries, arthritis, joint replacements, back issues, etc. I am healthy and mobile enough (though weight loss, stretching, core strength, bicycling) to get out and try to swing my clubs. Could not swing correctly or consistantly - was a mess. I have been watching Jonathan's video's and practicing the drills and it has been - "wa-la!" there's that old crushing it feeling again! I am 65 and can't hit it as far, but am much more consistant and more apt to flush my irons. Loving that I can play again. Jonathan is great - extremely clear, concise, technical & helpful!!

Even though it is kind of nitty gritty, I really like the way you explain the anatomical break down of the swing. As you say, many instructors very casually talks about the necessity of lag without bothering to understand the consequenses. Or they perhaps have extremely quick wrists so that they can square the club face in time. However, I don't have that so this vid was really good in that sense. Thanks and keep on Jonathan.

That was a a very simple and lucid explanation of a very subtle move in the back swing, which a lot of us do without realising. For those of us who learned to play golf before the joys of you tube and the likes of good coaches like you, it unfortunately became ingrained into our swings and now has to be unlearned! Thanks for a great video!

My stuggle has been the cupped left wrist and to your point, the best aolution for me was to increase the ulnar deviation which also provided me with a wider arc. I find it more simple as well to keep the club as far away from my chest without turning too far back-no distance loss and no more weak contact.
Keep up the great work and thank you for the great content!

I’ve struggled to improve down further from a 6/7 handicap as I frankly do not understand the physics of the game despite playing for a long time (sad but true); your simple and clear explanations are greatly helping. I hit some very solid irons on the range yesterday >> right to target and >> not moving in the wind. I was only thinking of the elbow position and bottoming out with left hand and club both being in a straight line after impact. Working on a in to out path as mine is the reverse of that. I like your honest no nonsense approach. 🙌👍👏
