technically, he would still have to fy ALL OVER the US... that is a HUGE task. I've driven across the US coast to coast 5 times... and up each coast around 10 times. I have lived in 10 different states and visited as many places as possible... I have still not seen most of the thing in the US.

As an Indian, if there's one thing I want India to learn from USA, it is the insane amount of documentation of anything. United States is one of, if not the most well-documented countries in the world. Literally look up any American school, college, incident, company, landmark or personality on Wikipedia and see how long and well-written the page would be. Meanwhile we feel ashamed of reading our own language and rely on English instead.
There are also several other things I'd want India to learn from USA, such as openly acknowledging its problems instead of relying on whataboutism, or not littering and spitting everywhere, or having state flags. But those things are not exclusive to USA and can be found in most developed countries around the world.

As depressing as it can be witnessing a lot of the divisions and animosities and changes happening in America, this really put into perspective a lot of the awesome beautiful things that exemplify what being an American is about. Thanks for reminding me why I love being an American 🇺🇸

Get them together in the same room and away from the internet they'll probably get along just fine compared to through the News lens or social media. Some of our perceptions are just there because we're both in separate places dealing with things from points of view without talking to each other.
Though social media is partly problematic because it's a technology that doesn't function on how humans talk to each before it existed. This is why messaging apps and group chats may work. But platforms like Twitter and Facebook or threads don't perform well UI well when it comes to conversations. they may be good for announcements and thoughts on subjects. But ask anyone on those platforms to have a long discussion. And their pretty much useless. Threads is also turning into a platform for people just to comment on Twitter. Due to the events that were unfolding right when it was released.
This the functionality and performance of these platforms is more reliant on outside factors then the platforms themselves.
The proudest American invention, which the entire world has benefitted from for over a century and will benefit from for centuries into the future, is the National Park system. There are more than 6000 national parks across the world, 424 of which are located in the US, all beginning with Yellowstone National Park in 1872.

Quite a disappointment to discover you were first. We've lived for decades thinking we were the the first ones. But it's okay. I'm still fine with the idea the Dutch Republic being one of the bigger sources of inspirations next to Napoleonic France and the UK for the American Declaration of Independence and how the state should function.

Yeah either Morocco or the Ragusan Republic based in Dubrovnik in modern-day Croatia but there are no official sources for that so I’m sticking with Morocco for now.

We live in a time where more Americans than ever truly believe that the US is doomed and a country with nothing to be proud of. I have seen it online and in my own friend circles from both sides of the political spectrum. What Barbs says here really puts the "United" in United States and brings the optimism that we need in order to move forward into a bright future.

It took me weeks to get through this but I loved it all. Now I'm rewatching the intro segment and, for some reason, tearing up. You've done something quite incredible here. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
Taiwanese here. Extremely thankful for the US. Taiwan is also a close ally of the US, despite not having formal diplomatic ties. Taiwanese people also can travel to the US visa-free (and Americans to Taiwan visa-free as well). In fact, Taiwanese Americans contribute a lot to both the tech and entertainment industries of both countries.

Nah. You’re not a citizen here. You’re a citizen in Canada. You’re confusing the two countries of Canada, where you’re actually a citizen, with America.
Although there is much criticism on the US today, especially regarding its politics, we cannot deny the country had and has a great influence over the world. As someone from the Netherlands I am grateful for the US for liberating parts of Europa, as well as parts of my country during WW2.
We are a hot mess, it's true, but at least we sometimes do some things right 😁

I also think that! As an Italian, I'd say that the episode of my country was very condensed compared to similarly sized and culturally diverse nations that he has done recently. Especially because of the insights he has recieved lately from people actually from the country he is talking about, his videos have become much more interesting.
His China Video was too lacking for me.
I thought this would be my favorite episode and I was right, I loved the entire hour and five minute video, thank you for this series, I liked geography a lot before this but I now love geography with a passion today, thank you so much Barbs ❤
After you finish with the countries of the world you should do separate, in-depth videos for each of the U.S. states. I know you did an "in-between" episode of all the states a little while back but I'd love to see each state get its own video. :)

I hope when he ends the alphabet he revisits earlier alphabet countries in a “things we missed” segment to add in information he didn’t include due to his previous time constraints to give him more content to do.
I know for my country (Canada) I’d love that because in comparison to current countries who get 30 minutes or more of coverage he missed ALOT.

As a Laotian-American, a member of the first Laotian family to immigrate into the state of Georgia, I would say that the US is really diverse place, both landscape and people-wise, filled with a culture that many people across every corners of the world tend to fall in love with.

The history between my country and the United States had a rough start, but now it's better than ever. In modern-day Vietnam, most people have a positive view about the United States. The US is often the biggest export market of Vietnam. Many young Vietnamese people dream of education and opportunities in the US. The US has donated a lot of vaccines and funding to help Vietnamese people through the pandemic, just one example on how American technology has shaped the modern life here.
I have chances to talk to many friendly Americans, they are great people! Some of my relatives are US citizens. Always hope the relation between Vietnam and the US will grow stronger and stronger.

Some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met were from Vietnam. I teach college courses in the DFW area, and a number of recent immigrants from Vietnam have been enrolled in my courses. They all share the same sentiments as you: a genuine curiosity and appreciation for the USA, and yes, our shared economic interests have definitely improved relations. I have encouraged many people to visit Vietnam and to see the natural beauty that exists there. ❤

France may have their tradition of fine culinary arts, Spaniards have their late dinners, South Africans and Argentines have their barbecue traditions, Brits have their cheeky Nando's, Scandinavians ferment fish for some reason, Australians just put things on toast... but America has what is uniquely American.

As an American (as in the Statesian since someone out there will probably say American doesn't just refer to the US) that seen enough BS his own country has done, Barb's video was a somewhat refreshing change in seeing what amazing things there are despite whatever problems the US has.

The best summary that I’ve heard of what it means to be an American was from a man who had immigrated from the USSR. When he was little, back in Latvia, his father kept illegal copies of the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Bill of Rights under the floorboards in their home to hide them from searches. He said he would ask his father why they were reading these things and his dad said: “Don’t you understand? This is what we believe. We ARE Americans. We were just born in the wrong place. My job as your father is to get you home.”

You remind me of something a past literature taught me called “rugged individualism”. From what I remember it has to do with a common literary theme in American literature of how people get by through this sense of independence that also comes with the need to get rugged and work hard to get by.
Side note: I LOVE your channel and videos! My Mom is from Mexico 🇲🇽 but is split between Basque & Spanish ancestry 🇪🇸 on one side and Belgian 🇧🇪 on the other. My dad is from Brazil 🇧🇷 but has Polish 🇵🇱 and French 🇫🇷 roots on one side and Dutch 🇳🇱 and Belgian 🇧🇪 on the other. So according to my ancestry I’m mostly French and Spanish with surprisingly some Iranian 🇮🇷 Indigenous / Native (saw your video on that too!) blood mixed in too.

As a Taiwanese person, I am constantly amazed by the significant influence that a country so distant from Taiwan can have on its affairs. The United States has played a pivotal role in shaping Taiwan's contemporary history and has had a profound impact on the world as I know it.
Beyond the realm of politics, my personal connections further exemplify this strong link between Taiwan and the USA. I have family members who have lived in the United States, numerous friends and acquaintances studying there, and I also have some American coworkers that works with me in Taiwan.

As a Canadian, this is what I have been waiting for for years. We may talk crap about each other sometimes, but at the end of the day, I look at Americans not very differently than Canadians. The internet and playing any online game on North American (USA/CA) Servers made that even more clear. More than half of my online friends I've made over the years are American.
I spent my childhood between Montana, Alberta, and the Dakotas. The people are so similar. Serious plainsman and women, endlessly kind, courteous to a fault. Can't ask for a better neighbor.

I’m from Iraq and I’ve been living in the US for 15 years. I came here in 2008 so 5 years after the war. It’s very unique place with unique people. You can call it home because you can be yourself and always be accepted.

It seems it's a very emotional episode for Barbs. This is the most patriotic american video I have ever seen and I respect your emotions. Everything you said about american dream, achievements, values are all true and wish my country could learn from it. I have usually seen americans mostly just complain about america but it is important to acknowledge good things which are way more than americans think.
The US is not a perfect country (by far), but is still my home. One of my favorite things about it is that eventhough I'm only a second generation immigrant, I feel just as American as everyone else.

I have to say, as a Maltese person I always see the USA as a crazy, wild country with the craziest people with the craziest news possible (said crazy news I'll retract), but the crazy thing is how many American friends I have. All of them are vastly different in one way or another as all of them have different backgrounds (i.e one is Puerto Rican, one is Russian-American, one is from Florida). In the end as much as I love to poke fun at America and the people, you Americans are amazing.

@@ryankayombya7576 Fellow Hoosier here! There is a lot of dispute as to where the term Hoosier comes from. There are some accounts of it being used as a synonym for Hick or Fieldworker, basically just a derogatory term for farmers since Indiana has some of the most fertile land due to the glacial movement in the last ice age that gave us the great lakes. I have also heard that Hoosier was slang in England for "mountain people" or "people from the hills" which makes sense for the soutern half of Indiana which is topographically distinct from the upper half for the amount of hills. We share pretty much everything. The good and bad. And that's fine. If America does shitty politics, well we also have shitty politics. Except Vietnam and Iraq. Not joining those wars was the right decision. But in terms of being next to a country, it's probably the best agreement there is. Nobody will touch this continent and we're protected. There's no more of a secure continent than North America from any sort of foreign invasion.

I'm Norwegian and was over a few months for study in Washington state. It was perpetual summer and in the middle of the suburbian desert, but it was beautiful to witness the blossom tree flower, and visit Olympia, Seattle, rural places and small towns. Mount Rainier was often seen. Afterward, I was a few days in Alaska. Love Alaska. It feels like Norway's long lost brother. It is uncanny how familiar Alaskan cuisine and landscape feels like. I have relatives in both states. I love that regardless if they are many degrees out in the family tree, they can still be refered to as cousins.

Seattlite here. A lot of Scandinavians settled around Puget Sound; the Nordic Museum is in the Ballard section of Seattle.
I’m in Montana, around 15% of our state’s population is Scandinavians. Our mountains and glaciers are reminiscent of Norwegian snow-capped mountains and fjords.
I have been watching Geography Now for years now! I can say I really enjoyed the whole episode! We are almost to the end of all the countries in the world. What is next? I can't wait to find out. Keep us informed!

That's only a minority of North Americans, only the US and Canada do that, the rest of the countries there (the majority too, since they are more countries) don't even really care about that. Which is actually pretty sad when they are left out, since unlike Canada and the US, the rest of the countries in North America actually have a big noticeable native american population and identify, where some of them actually see them as their ancestors and stuff.
Think of it this way, imagine being left out of your own continent just because some foreigners who came that don't even have cultural connections to the land are seen as more important and valuable than you are.

I'm a proud Canadian, but if Canada is my home, the U.S. is like my grandmother's house I love to go to whenever I can. I've lived in the U.S., I have close relatives living there, I've been to about 17 U.S. states and D.C. I have a deep soft spot for this country and I hope Canada and the United States keep having a peaceful and beneficial relationship.

I definitely felt that skepticism when I lived in the UK for a year. It was an uphill battle making friends with Londoners. They immediately assumed I was dumb, arrogant, brash, and extremist. I am none of those things tho. Anyway, I think Barbs really captured the sentiment of the US in this video (the positivity, diversity, & friendliness). I am glad you felt it too. I would love for all Brits to see a video like this before meeting Americans like me because it would make things a lot easier for us. Thanks for keeping an open mind about us :)

I immigrated to the U.S. (from the Philippines) when I was 9 years old and became a full-fledged American Citizen (I am not dual-citizen) - lived in California for 5 years, then moved and lived in State of Washington ever since (thank you for letting a Washingtonian-rep be part of this video and mentioning Seattle-emerald city! Also, go University of Washington Huskies!).
In my 27 years in the U.S. - I am always learning and, we, Americans may have our differences - but we love each other no matter what! Just a few months ago, I took a road trip by myself from Seattle, all the way to Bakersfield, California - there was a moment, that I cried a few times, because of how beautiful America and its people are - I was afraid that since I was by myself and as a minority I would get mistreated - but nope! All the way, they greeted me a warm "hello" and when I ask a question of where places (cause sometimes, GPS gets you on the wrong direction or I am just confused, lol!) to be they just pointed me to the right destination and even recommended a few good restaurants to try out. I've experienced a fair share of racism towards me in my years living in the U.S. but I never let that experience get me down about the U.S., there are genuine Americans who loves you back - I always see the positive and good things about my country and that itself makes you believe that, no matter what, I am a proud American and living my own American dream!
My retirement plan will not be visiting other countries - it will be visiting all states and territories of the United States! USA!!!!!! XD
