Mini or Alfa, which is your weapon of choice?
Binky.
But that's not one with FIA historical papers. It would have the Alfa for breakfast though ;o)
It has to be the Alfa. Beautiful car with an historic name behind it. Mini is good, but there is only one choice.
It has to be the mini, because many years ago i had one for dailydriving and for weekendracing ,i like the handling of this short car
The mini! But id also like to see nick switt wheel a rwd cuz man does he make that mini dance
Nick swift and his green mini are like jim douglas and herbie - i click to watch any and every clip of him front-wheel-DRIVINâ! that lil car
This was more entertaining that a whole season of Formula 1
C'est sĂ»r đđ» đđ»
True story
That's a pretty low bar.
Truth!
Totally agree, sad to say F1 now bores me witless !
A real Mini, a real Alfa, and two seriously-skilled drivers. Some of the best racing I've seen in a *long* time. Hats off to them both.
And fair drivers.
Absolutely agree! đ
And driving to the limit two pieces of motorsport history in a fair and gentlemen's battle
Absolutely.. Always left a gentlemanly half centimeter room...
The fact these guys are saluting each other right after finish line tells you this IS THE AWESOME NATURE OF PURE RACING JOY.
âOh I think i saw his brake lights come onâ
âNo I think heâs just getting ready for Christmasâ đ
đđ
And he was quick witted too!
âHe might breathe into the footwell and call that brakingâ đđ
If it were Mk1 brakes, standing on the pedal would hardly make any difference!
@@Radfordperson Im sure they're a bit more modern, id say it would even have a disc brake swap
@@maxmitchell8180 S disc brakes for sure
F1: spend millions getting an audience attention.
Classic car races: barely a few quid and gets the viewers on the edge of their seats
Back to basics boys, back to basics.
No doubt. The whole enchilada needs to go back to the basics.
I kind of agree, but classic car races are barely 'a few quid' mate, those cars are worth a lot, and cost a lot to repair too....
Not on the level of F1 of course.
@Cr0Lar Watching stripped out old hot hatches fight is definitely more interesting than F1 XD
Its more fun to watch pasionate people nuttering around small cars than F1 tbh... love it.
đđ
can we take a moment to appreciate the Goodwood camera crews? some of the finest racing cameramen out there!!!
Eithen found a moment to find a pretty lady for a second or two đ
@@nathanwindle9816 she is hot
A word to the producer, we don't need to see five seconds of a pretty lady while watching some of the best sports car racing in the world.
The use of drones gives it a new dimension that works well.
Fast, totally committed, and *fair.* Two drivers who had total confidence in their car and their own abilities, and total respect for their opponent too. Wonderful. That's what motor racing is all about.
You know the guy in the Mini doesn't really care about finishing behind the ALFA. They both raced hard and fair and he had a blast! hahaha
A.L.F.A. not Alpha, Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili
vassallo49 - Then add Nicola Romeo and stir over a medium heat for seven years and you have Alfa Romeo. Buon appetito.
Yeah, looked like those two had the most fun.
@@vassallo49 that pisses me off too
you obviously don't know nick swift
...now THAT! is how you put a mini around a race track kids lol
What a great race highlight
John rhodes would have been proud!
As a card holding member of Alfa-Lovers Anonymous, that GTA really should be my highlight. But seeing that Mini flung sideways like that is something else!
Its actually quite easy to drift in a correctly set up mini. When I am in a mood I drift on every other roundabout, even though its a modern R56 model it still has that mini playfulness.
@@stasisthebest yeah but when their not set up you can gravel drift a corner in a country road, 'till you hit the cow đ© where they herded them slip, skid sideways into the grass verge, become airborne barrel roll into a field!!!
What a joy to behold, slip sliding and slip streaming all the way in the little Mini!
Love how the minis driver is shaking his fist at the end. You can definitely tell they had fun.
He also knows he is the real winner.
I just realized I had a smile on my face through the entire video. This is motorsport in the truest sense. Dopamine. Happiness.
Amen to that. :)
Can you imagine the rush of adrenaline this drivers must feel when duking it out like that. Wow good racing
That's the definition of "throwing a car into the corner".
Finding the apex in the left mirror!
As an Italian lover of older Alfa cars, i excite just by watching this gta, but great honour to the mini driver!!
Omg that Mini is like the villain of a horror movie, the moment you look over your shoulder it's there chasing you! đđđ
Or like a very excited puppy lol
đ€ĄđȘđ€ĄđȘđ€ĄđȘđ€ĄđȘ no room for 5 pairs of massive murders shoes in a real Mini
Are you watching F1 organisers? This is the kind of racing we want! Exciting, fun, interesting and unpredictable. Entertain us!!!
The Americans at Liberty seem to think memes and Netflix will float the processional rubbish that is F1 these days. Did you see Williams want to sell?
Do you guys even watch f1 or just jump on the bandwagon?
@@hideki-s9083 No I watch Paint Dry. instead
@@hideki-s9083 the only entertaining thing about it is the funny moments involving the drivers when they're NOT racing
TBF if "classic racing" was as professionnal as F1 is, it would end up as predictable and optimized.
There's nothing better than watching someone who knows how to drive FWD
Love that feeling of balancing the car's rotation through a corner with the throttle and just hitting the perfect line.
This is probably the best dogfight Iâve seen across all Motorsports. Itâs so raw and the music these things make.
"nick swift" alongside with scott speed, must be one of the most fitting names for a racing driver
Don't forget Will Power
@@SkillzorZ021 Gerhard Berger is up there.
What about Joe Faster?
Johnny Gottapiss alongside Luci "Lubed" D'ariah
Followed last by Vin Diesel
Nick Swift definitely knows how to drive his mini with full confidence and that makes for some amazing racing
That Mini going sideways is the best thing Iâve seen... ever, probably. So entertaining! What a race!
These are the cars of my youth. I remember being able to buy one of those Alfa's for only a few hundred US dollars (used). Same with the BMW 2002 or Mini Cooper. My buddy paid something like US$1800 (and thought that was a lot of money) for a Lotus Europa. Another buddy had a hard time selling a very low mileage 1969 Chevy Camaro Z28 with a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher transmission in 1971 for US$1500. No takers for almost 6 months. I think he finally sold it for US$1400. And Mercedes 300 Gullwing's were selling for anywhere between US$5000-8000. Time flies...
That's an aluminium bodied GTA, not a regular Giulia. But, I take your point.
Al mini con motor 1275 cc y equipo Sewell no le ganaban los americanos de 5000cc en circuitos trabados hace 50 años atrås. ¿ Vieron cómo dobla?
Yep you could get a â65 Cobra for $7500 US back then. Now they can be up to $250k depending on the model
Two of the prettiest cars ever made dicing head to head.
I don't think they are pretty, very easy to fall in love with though
Mini is cute. Alfa is beautiful.
I just don't get why people think Alfas are good looking. That one is OK, but the Alfa grill always looks like somebody has taken a chunk out of the front of the car with an axe.
@@humandroid53 Correction, Mini is very cute!
@Harold Sweathead what more beautiful cars were made in that era? Without mentioning the obvious hyper expensive cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini. The Alfa was a relatively cheap car. Certainly better looking than Anny mass produced cars out of Britain or Germa y at the time.
It's so cool to see a fwd mini do sideways
Almost no independence at rear suspension (Inside wheel is lifting all the time) That removes load from the front axis and puts it at the rear. FWD street cars use to be under-steerers cos its easier to handle. A thicker anti-roll bar at the rear and that balance changes. Beautiful car and beautiful driving.
That slide helped cornering a bit
It can be a good rally car too
It feels amazing to, though that right foot has to stay planted. Do it wrong and all you get is understeer, nothing like having hard lock and the car is ploughing right on in a straight line with aa curb coming up fast in front of you lol. Minis are fascinating.
So..mini can drift
Absolutely enthralling racing and great sportsmanship! I can imagine they were both buzzing after stepping out of the car! This is what F1 lacks today. Fantastic video.
Wow! What a dogfight between these two. Makes most other motor racing dull to watch!
2:59 poor blue car guy must be felt really terrific during two epic fight in mid of his way đđ

Ciao from Milan, Italy đâ€
Hands down the best racing ever. Then it became a rich guy high tech game that lacked soul. These guys are literally on the verge of wiping out every turn but they don't back off one bit. Balls that clank
Real cars not those tube chassis things they call stock cars in various forms of racing today. Nascar imsa aussie v8 etc....
Honestly half the change has been the tyres. Cars (not just race cars) have so, so much grip these days that itâs more about getting the right line and managing the braking points than handling. And I donât mean how fast the car corners, I mean real handling
It's always been a rich guy game. But the cars sure are a lot more soulful with older money, I give you that.
Brilliant! I had a 1275GT back in the 80s and could hold a steady 50mph on thick snow through back lanes at night. I just never braked.
Well fought Mr Swift! A good name...!
Outgunned, but not phased at all that little Mini!!â€ïž
The Giulia GTA is stunning!

Nick Swift is really an amazing driver. He just uses the Alfa slip stream to pass everyone. Brillant.
Great respect and control displayed by both racers. That's the way it's supposed to be, kids!
When a Mini is sideways you just KNOW itâs being driven beyond hard!

I remember watching this at St Mary's, total entertainment of the finest quality. I love Alfas but a drifting Mini Cooper up the exhaust pipe of the Alfa, priceless! Bring on the good times for Revival 2021 .... I hope. đđđ
Truly epic racing.
It's amazing how those little wheels and tires handle in the turns, even when only two or three are on the ground.
The perfect battle race. Both drivers were fighting but respectful. Racing class and honor at its best.
MAN. I watched this to the end. MINI did a great job and won the whole race (for me)
Great race, having owned 2 GTVs it was good to see the Alfa hold the Mini off, but what a race. Thanks for posting it.
Some of the greatest driving I've seen in a long time. This was truly a David and Goliath battle.
I was lucky enough to be there, it was some of the best racing I've ever seen! đđ
The Mini handling is incredible! It can run such a tight line
Drive one if you have the chance. They are fun little cars.
Itâs like driving a gokart
Even a standard one is much like that.
Swift. His adrenaline is probably still spiking as you view this video. Thank you for sharing GR&R.
That mini had grip for days. Point in a direction and go. Completely limited by the size of the drivers gonads! Helps that his positioning and knowledge of where to find grip was world class. Used every inch of track and knew which corners to attack.
Reminds me of the touring car days back in the late 90s
It looks like the Mini turned his lights off for added oomph đ.
Do racers at goodwood fear seeing nick ânevah liftâ swift pull up in their rear view
It's great to see two of my all-time favourite cars really hammering it down to the absolute limit. â€ïž
WoooHooo!!! That was fun!! Excellent driving. Great racing. That Mini driver was funny. That last overtake was superb. He was having a blast.
I've just finished restoring a MK1 Mini Cooper in boxes and wasn't sure I would keep it - hadn't had a fwd cars since my first car 20 years ago, and never driven a Mini. But then it was suddenly finished and I got into the first roundabout - sideways! Now I'm in love :-D
This great race shows just how brilliant this car handles (and the drivers skills!)
âCar reached, car passedâ. Pedro De La Rosa.đ
From America...
I had no idea mini's were so ferocious!
Theyâre among the best handling cars of all time. Everyone should drive an original mini at least once.
Fantastic, used to love the rallying on Sat morning TV, Minis, Anglias, Consul Cortinas!
And THAT, children is how you race without any onboard computers, traction control, front/rear wings etc just pure skill....!! Epicđđ
Why brake when you can just send it on three wheels? Or two?
The pilot of the Mini gave a real flying showđđđđ§đ·đ§đ·đ§đ· Fantastic
Absolutely incredible racing. Both drivers conceding positions where they were weak and battling the whole rest of the time. Excellent race craft and sportsmanship to those two. He drove the hell out of that Mini on the limit the whole time must have been a blast.
Very exciting driving that mini. Going sideways, bouncing all over the track after hitting the curbs. Spectacular!
Havenât seen anything quite like it in years, great stuff
Every other car: vrooom vrooooom!

Alfa is such a beautiful car, but the Mini is properly moving, amazingly smooth and fast set up-driving combination!
As James Hunt once said in an interview "Big balls"
Haven't seen so much excitement in a long time.
What a great race ! Always love watching them Minis race and especially the Twin-Mini. It sounded like a bucket of Angry wasps going by !
the camera quality and style of cinematography is awesome. lots of dynamic cloesups and close-in panning shots, depth of field that gives anything not in focus a bit of blur, love it
The BMW's headlights at 7:53 look like the BMW logo, that is cool.

FWD+balls against RWD+muscle! Pure show!!
had to comment as i was riveted to my seat watching the alfa and the skill in pushing that cheeky mini glued to the rear of the alfa. fantastic to watch.
I love the way of Nick Swift Smoothly slides through all the corners.

Wonderful racing. Thank You for uploading.
That guy cheering at the alfa after the finish made my day such an epic race
Beautiful cars. Charismatic commentators and close racing. Couldnât be any better
That was just brilliant, respect to both drivers.
"I saw him tap the brakes there"
"Nope, that was a mistake"
There could be a UFO overhead, Elvis in the bleachers, there could literally be a unicorn running across the track.
And I don't think a damned bit of it would distract me from watching these two dance.
Showstopping. Absolutely fantastic battle. Props to both drivers. This.... this is how competitive racing is done. Take notes!
Stunning car control. Top class drivers both but Swift is just amazing to watch.
Absolutely fantastic racing! Riveting to watch!
