Staff Bikes: James' Yamaha XSR700

  • James bought his XSR700 six months ago and hasn’t looked back, making a few modifications along the way including an Akropovich MT07 exhaust and wrapping the tank. His previous bikes had the same unreliable trait, so with his new Yamaha XSR700 he managed to do a long-awaited motorcycle trip to The Scottish Highlands and has a fair few plans for customising the bike in the New Year.

      I agree, I think the stock headlight housing really balances out the proportions of the bike. Those stubby ones kind of make it look too bulky with all the engine parts and electronics in the middle. If you could remove the entire section around the airbox in the middle, I think a stubby headlight would be fine

The Evotech tail tidy is a worthy bit of kit but make sure you mount the indicators in the forward position, I made the mistake of putting them next to the number plate which looked terrible. I fitted the Yamaha heated grips too which make it more usable in the winter and they look like stock. The shock really is terrible too...

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir Před 5 lety

      Yea I'd actually swap back to stock tail light and just tidy up the rear end with a regular eliminator kid that fits right under the mudguard. Totally blacking out the entire bike makes it look like the bike is trying too hard and it loses that depth and sense of material contrasts. Headlight is subjective, but I prefer the larger bucket style, so that the bike doesn't look too compact and fat. Whenever I see bikes that are overly short in front and rear, it just looks poorly proportioned and unbalanced. Kawazaki Z bikes suffer a bit from that
