  • As the United States considers its broader national security interests in Yemen beyond the imperative need to end the destructive civil war, a host of tough questions have arisen for Washington and its partners. Besides assessing whether the coalition has appreciably reduced Houthi attacks on commercial shipping, can policymakers make progress on the UN-Saudi-U.S. “roadmap” toward a peace accord while such incidents continue? And how does the U.S. designation of the Houthis as a terrorist organization affect power- and revenue-sharing in Yemen?
To discuss these and other pressing questions, The Washington Institute is pleased to announce a virtual Policy Forum with Ambassador Steven Fagin and Nadwa al-Dawsari.
Steven Fagin is the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen. His distinguished career in the senior foreign service has included nine overseas missions and time as director of the State Department’s Office of Iranian Affairs.
Nadwa Al-Dawsari is a researcher and conflict practitioner with over twenty years of field experience working alongside tribes, civil society figures, local authorities, security actors, and armed groups in Yemen. She is a nonresident scholar with the Middle East Institute and a fellow at the Centre on Armed Groups.
