    One more reason I think is that the Tamil audience has the highest exposure to world cinema. Even the same Anurag Kashyap has said in an interview 10 years ago that "In Chennai, if u go to Burma Bazaar, you'd mostly find pirated copies of Hollywood and Korean movies". The lockdown has definitely pushed a lot more people to watch quality world cinema. So it's not just the directors and screen writers who want to make innovative cinema, even the Tamil audience wants to watch something that they've never seen before.
    But there are two areas where Malayalam cinema is miles ahead of us:
    First one is the existence of independent screenwriters and mainstream directors who'd happily direct another writer's script with no ego. I think now that is slowly changing here as well with Lokesh having Rathna Kumar as an additional screenwriter and GVM directing VTK which was written by Jeyamohan. Even legends like Spielberg and scrosese have directed scripts written by others multiple times. I wish they'd realise that it's completely fine to be a director alone and there's no need write their own scripts if they're not good at it.
    Secondly, the obsession of fair skinned women is still prevalent in Tamil cinema. I wish to see more dark skinned actresses getting leading roles in big budget mainstream movies.

    The point is Tamil cinema provides audience a taste of everything. Their storylines, action hero centric, family values, thriller, romance, historic epic e.t.c They provide audience all types of entertainment. So audience are never bored with one dimensional type of films. While in other film industries you see more of one dimensional theme/story lines. And you are right Tamil directors and producers never shy away experimenting. So as long the industry is open and gives merit to hard work and passion, Tamil film industry will continue to succeed. Also it’s important for Tamil Industry to see it succeed because as it is an important vessel in transporting Tamil culture and language all over the world. So it must continue to succeed to greater heights.

    One important aspect is how we celebrate even other language movies. Premam ran in theatres for more than 250 days in Chennai - probably the only instance of a non-native movie running for so long.

    All this appreciation for good cinema eventually trickles down, making Tamil cinema even better.

      @kingtowmater1038 Před rokem +1

      I love Tamil industry but idk if that's true, besides Bahubali (which is actually considered a billingual Telugu and Tamil movie) and maybe Pushpa I have yet to see big Telugu heroes consistently pull huge numbers at the Tamil box office, while Tamil heroes like Rajini Kamal Vijay Vikram and even smaller ones like Karthi always have had immense respect in Tollywood and always have their separate Telugu fanbases that consistently give them collections, and that goes for directors like Mani Ratnam too. Also not to stereotype or anything but based on my experiences online I've often found fans of other languages like Kannada Malyalam or Telugu appreciate other industries more than I have for Tamil, who kinda always try to mix something up bad regarding others like Kattappa being a bad character and misrepresentation of Tamil people (which I've still genuinely never understood), again I'm not at all saying all Tamil fans are like this, that couldn't be further from the truth, it's just what my experiences on the internet have been. A lot of great things about the Tamil industry to talk about but I don't know if the celebration of other language movies has ever been a standout positive charateristic of Kollywood compared to other industries

    2. Comedians : They are fine actors and I believe actor Vivek took it to next level, so the next generation is doing a better job
    3. Acceptance: I observed that Malayalam, Telugu & Tamil have always shared the actor/actresses/support cast and audience have always accepted that. After telugu movie industry moved to Andhra we have done more export than import of actors except a very few.

    • @kingtowmater1038
      @kingtowmater1038 Před rokem +2

      As a Telugu person, I definitely see the merit for your standpoint, but I think Tollywood has the same amount of talent if not more (not dumb heroes like Balayya but even mainstrea like AA and RC and etc.), it's just that Telugu directors and producers are still making that step to try more newer, better content-driven movies, but we're getting there. Newer promising directors like Tharun Bhascker Nag Ashwin B.V Nandini Reddy etc. and ofc are making that switch and so are more and more movies even with music as well, such as directors like Vivek Sagar. While the industry is still driven with nepotism, blind casteism & commercialism, Telugu films are making that change and perhaps in a decade from now, Tollywood will be the very definition of what the Tamil industry is praised for right now. You're bang on with your take on Tamil movies, though I don't think a lack of talent is the problem with Tollywood.

    The actors here not only act but also work in other fields like singing, lyricist, direction etc. the film gets more strength and good marketing.
    Small films or big actors are giving sensational promotions from films
    And theater owners are re-releasing underrated films and fans enjoyed films. And theater technology upgrades (4k screens, Dolby sound) it's welcoming fans easily.

    Whole heartedly accepted every point. But as good as Anirudh music and bgms. Santhosh Narayanan is class apart . And is probably the finest music producer of his time. His music is something you can go back and listen all the time . Be it bgms or songs . Before this Yuvan is the one who used to both . Cater people who like different music as well the popular sounding ones . Now the roles is split between Sana and anirudh.

    One of the bane as well as boon of Tamil cinema is, there is no parallel cinema, here everything is Mainstream. Movies like Aruvi, Kadaisi vivasyi etc. can be successful commercially because of that. But, at the same time because of this commercial aspect we are not able to produce full art movie without any commercial element, is this good or bad? well, that is never ending debate, for one eye it is good and bad for another eye.

    This may not be a defect or degradation I'm pointing out that like Malayalam cinema, Tamil industry needs to give importance to script writers and more directors should come forward directing those scripts, by that they can deliver a quality film....just my opinion

      @@win-ve8ld Bro script writing and direction are related, but 2 different tasks... mostly in Tamil industry, our directors write the script & direct themselves
