How to Draw in Perspective for Beginners

  • Step by step tutorial on basic perspective. Quick tutorial on one point, two point, and three point perspective. When drawing anything in perspective, try to visualize the elements behind the object. This will help you to see the volume of the objects.     One point and two point perspective is very useful, whereas three point perspective in not commonly used for general drawing. Unless you are doing some serious cityscape drawings.
    ►Learn how to draw with pencils with my step by step drawing tutorials. Let me show you how to draw anything from beginning to the end. For some subject like drawing animals, blocking in the basic shapes first is useful. For portrait drawings, starting with the eye is my preferred method of drawing. But whatever the subject matter or method, I will always show you the easiest and most effective way to draw.

      Haha true. I never had troubles with straight lines. I used to trace good straight line in early highschool, but, god, I struggle with elipses. o matter how much I sweat trying to make then fast and clean. I just mess them up. You just have to keep practicing and practicing. ot only watching videos

      In general you shouldn't use your wrist to draw. Use your shoulders and thinks will be a lot smoother and you prevent injuries in your wrist since it's actually very vulnerable

    Tysm I wouldn't consider myself a "beginner" but I haven't practised any perspective yet, just characters and I think that's a mistake. This was super helpful and you explained everything so well. I had an art Block, my faces started looking wobbly and non-accurate, but I think it's because my lack of motivation on drawing. I tried perspective too, but this tutorial saved me from that hole. I will set on some alarms because I think consistant drawing is very important! You got a new sub man you are great😁

      actually no.
      this actually is one of the easier things to do.
      only when you do some really complex stuff, you might need some good imagination, but there is nothing wrong in using reference.
      it is actually always good to use reference.

      Then make thumbnail sketches to get an idea down on paper to make a draft of the composition before moving on to the final peice

    I do follow the vanishing points; however, I don't do the perspective grid. I draw on a large enough area to put a piece of tape or a drafting dot where the vanishing point are and use a long ruler to do more complex perspective. One thing in this video that I find in three point perspective that your audience may find they may do, is worms eye view where the third vanishing point is above the horizon line. Otherwise good video!

      Yeah, that's the thing, most people don't draw on large pieces of paper. That's why I suggest people get use to visualizing the point off paper.

    This is really cool man! Thank you. I am going to have fun playing around with this. I love that you did this with a pencil and paper vs. a computer. Some kids these days feel as though one cannot truly draw anything without a computer and that is totally not true.

    It's funny, the best thing I learned was using dashes to show lines behind things. Might sound silly but I never thought of that and it is soooooo useful for me. The perspective lesson helps a lot too. Thank you for your video!

    You can use thump tacs and string to get perfect lines without the perspective grid. For 2 point just tie a string to each tac and stic each tac in a vanishig point...the you can pull the string in the center to wherever you want a corner or line and youll have a perfectly aimed straight line for every single line you make. Its pretty simple and rad and stops all the grid scratches and erasing. Have fun

    Super helpful seeing you draw through the backs of the boxes and extending the lines to the vanishing points. I didn't understand that there is no guessing involved when drawing perfect perspective, though in practice there is tons of guessing when freehanding lol

    Hi, Great work! What ive been having a hard time finding on youtube
    would be complex perspective. I see plenty of videos with straight line
    horizon perspective drawing but what i want to improve on is complex
    curved shapes overlapping shapes and the like. a good example would be
    anything standing at a 45 degree angle. For example i can draw the front
    of a horse i can draw the side of a horse but HOW DO I DRAW ANYTHING IN
    BETWEEN WITHOUT DISTORTING FEATURES AND USING PROPER PERSPECTIVE
    TECHNIQUES haha. hope you can help thanks
