Fun fact about this:
The name of the band "Pentakill" comes from the fact that league is a 5v5 game, you pick from a pool of basically 150+ champions, fight another team of 5. If you manage to land the killing blow on the 5 members on the enemy team within about 30s, the announcer in game will say "Pentakill", and it's one of the harder things to do in league in general because usually someone will realize things are going back and get out, or kill you before you can get it.
As for the song name: Mortal Reminder is one of the items in the game itself that you can buy.
Or some douche Teammate will steal the final and ur stuck on a quadra :D

Whenever I see a Mortal Reminder reaction, I thoroughly enjoy that split second reaction in the beginning when the rock cuts in to the casual music and people are like "What the fuck did I just sign up for?"
I cannot recommend more Pentakill enough. RIOT tends to share the same joke as Guilty Gear of, “wow it’s so cool they made a multibillion dollar game franchise to promote their music”. There’s 3 albums, all are some of the hottest fire to ever come from a game company, and it’d be awesome if you could eventually listen to them all. Next one should probably be “Lightbringer” as it was the first song, and most beloved by fans.
So, League is a game with a LOT of characters, and while the game is free to play, you can buy cosmetics.
A long time ago, they set up a series of cosmetics all themed around a metal band called Pentakill.
To help promote the sale of the in-game cosmetics, they had an actual real metal song made for the fake band.
The skin line (and song) was SO popular, they made an Album.
Then they made a 2nd album. and a 3rd album.
Smiite and Ignite (album 1), 2014
Grasp of the Undying (album 2), 2017
Lost Chapter (album 3), 2021.
Since you were curious, the vocals (as Karthus, the Deathsinger) were performed by Jørn Lande.
Watching someone experience this for the first time with no idea of what's coming was absolutely magical, so thanks for that Jesse! I started out thinking "Surely he must know about this," and then as soon as you said "I have no idea what this is" I knew it was gonna be a fun ride. Glad you enjoyed it as much as you did!
The League of Legends musical rabbit hole is deep, dark and twisted, but I really appreciate that it has something for everyone in terms of musical styles. And even the in-game champion themes are far better made than they have to be, to say nothing of the music they explicitly hired third party professionals to make to promote the game (like Pentakill).

Oh god league music, you are in for a treat and opening a unique flood gate.
Pentakill as a fake band was basically a way for them to sell a skin line. They made Sona (keyboard player) a kinda gothy skin and just gave it the name pentakill. Later on they made skins for a couple other Champs and sold it because group themes sell better. Even further later on they're like wow if we invest money into making music for this fake band, people will want to buy this skin line and guess what, they did that and it worked. I get the sense that this fake band in particular has a lot of personal love put into it because they've made multiple albums but is solidly the 2nd fiddle band in popularity to another other big fake band of theirs, KD/A
It's purely promotional because league invest heavily in its own IP. Most Champs come out with some mix of their own log-in theme, stories, videos, and art so it's not weird to hear this from Riot at all. They've made their own animated series and other fake bands and even had collabs with real bands to create songs.
LoL is one of those games thats absolutely massive that no one talks about because they don't need to. I'd be surprised if it doesn't still hit 7 digit players daily and generally assume 8 honestly.

Mortal Reminder, Thornmail and Lightbringer are my favorite Pentakill songs and I'm pretty sure if you like this one, giving the other songs a look won't hurt (even on your own)
As for the Music video, the characters you see aren't related outside of the fictional Band "Pentakill" where all of them got a metal skin.
The village they are "metalfying" is called Bandle Village and it's basically the home of magical anthropomorphic dwarfs known as "Yordles"
The one getting kicked (Teemo) is one of the poster boys of the game getting dunked on for having an annoying playstyle since 2009.

There was a big online live concert with motion capture a year ago with their new album.
The entire second pentakill album is worth giving a listen to (the one with Mortal Reminder on it). I think it's when the composers, musicians, and producers really had the clearest idea of what Pentakill should be. They did a really great job at covering a lot of wide styles of metal.
“Lost Chapter” is my favorite Pentakill song, def check it out even if it’s just on your own time.

Pentakill iirc started as skins for some characters made to look like a metal band, it got popular enough they got to make several albums as if performed by said band.
Personally I only listened to the first album they released, but as far as my limited knowledge go they did damn well.

"Pentakill" is a game term on League of Legends that signifies one player taking out all 5 members of the opposing team in one fell swoop. The term was adapted as the name for the in-house metal band at Riot games. Over time skins for the playable champions in the game were released in honor of the band.

This video and song was produced later to introduce the 6th member in Kayle, another vocalist. The skin's designers also elaborated on how they picked the champions to make the most in-lore sense to have their weapons serve as instruments, like Axes and spades as guitars, staves as Mics and so on.
man you have just opened some floodgates, Pentakill has 3 albums now, 29 songs total, they are mostly promotional, used to sell in games skins for the champions with the songs getting played in the game client during events and the lead singer of Pentakill even doing some Voice lines for his character in game, there are 2 other in game bands which is K/DA (k-pop) with 8 songs and the one hit wonder of True Damage (hip-hop), all the bands are named after in game mechanics and champions from the games are used to represent each member of their respective groups, they have often performed live at major esports events, there are also seasonal songs, worlds anthems, promotional songs for skinlines/events and champion themes for many of the over 150 characters in the game as well as many many others, it is often joked that Riot games should be just changed to Riot Music
Jorn Lande was the singer for the power metal band Masterplan and frequently guest vocals for Avantasia

I have been waiting for this ever since UJ has reacted to the first Guilty Gear song. The other gaming company that has created great Metal/Rock tracks. The Pentakill tracks from League are sooooo good. Riot only released singles for their other virtual groups, but only Pentakill got complete albums and its 3 at this point. The whole 3 albums are available on streaming platforms like Spotify btw.
Oh man League's music is so insanely varied. Especially when you start throwing in champion themes into the mix. Really hope you get to the other League songs

The little guy you see falling and crashing with the signal is, simply put, ''league's representation of the devil'', a.k.a. Teemo, which gets sent flying by a kick by the female vocalist (which didn't sing in this one but anyway).
Now that I think about it, kicking the devil in the face is like the most metal thing one can do in a metal music video.
Highly recommend their song Lightbringer acoustic version, of their latest album lost chapter III. One of my favourite songs, not just game related.

There's a ton of League of Legends music that's so good.
A couple of my biggest recommendations to listen to, after all the Pentakill music, are Vi's theme "Here Comes Vi", Jinx's theme "Get Jinxed", and the K/DA music - especially "Pop Stars".
They have several albums that are all FIRE
Riot Games/League of Legends has posted a lot of music videos and cinematics over the years; almost every one of them is worth checking out.
Sidenote: The character that gets kicked of the cliff is one of the most hated characters of all time. Its absolutly painful to play against him. Its a beautiful moment.

few things, this was to promote the character skin line that we see in the video, i don't playing league anymore but iirc this released alongside the skin for the flying character we see at the end, also League isn't an MMO, it's a MOBA, and yeah it's definitely still around, i'm not coming back to the game ever but i'm still subbed to the youtube channel because they keep releasing banger music and animations

The league of legends music videos aren't exactly OSTs from the game, but usually music made to promote skins, characters or special events like the world championships. Some are by the original artists, others are artists representing different characters and basically becoming their voice for that song. So a character could be represented by different artists in different songs.

Pentakill has 3 full albums of music, and it's all great. Just as good if not better than a lot of the metal from "real" bands.

There are two albums out of this, you would likely enjoy them. Pentakill is a reference to killing the entire enemy team of five. The titles reference item names or descriptions in game.
League of Legends Worlds and Season songs throughout the years can be next, even more production value on the music there.

To respond to what you've said sometimes in the vid - League barely has any music in game, and it's discrete. Being a MOBA, you're just replaying the same 30 mn game over and over, so it's not like an FF where you'll have 10h's worth of music. However, it has an insane amount of promotional music - basically about 15-30 pieces a year. It goes in ALL genres (power metal, classical, rap, celtic, K-pop, anime opening, rock, neo-classical, you name it) and a good half of them are memorable gems.
Lots of them are extremely popular - two of their Imagine Dragon collabs have around a billion total views each, their most popular K-pop song goes near that as well, and they have about 30 songs over 300 million total listens (CZcams+Spotify). There's a lot in there!

Pentakill is a fictional metal band with the characters you actually play in the game. This is a Skin collection, they aren't look like this originally.
They are Karthus, Yorick, Sona, Mordekaiser, Olaf and Kayle.
League of Legends is a MOBA, though I believe they are working on an MMO to release sometime in the future. As far as Pentakill goes, Lightbringer is probably their most well-known song. They have 3 albums. From album 1 "Smite and Ignite" I recommend listening to Lightbringer, Thornmail, and Last Whisper. From album 2 "Grasp of the Undying" I recommend listening to Tear of the Goddess and BloodThirster. From Album 3, "Lost Chapter" I recommend listening to Last Stand, and Conqueror. All 3 albums were pretty good, but I would say album 3 takes the cake for me. They experimented a lot with the 3rd album, adding a new vocalist (Viego). I think my favorite thing about the 3rd album is the interesting keyboard parts.
About the drummer as not sure if you noticed or it's been aid but it's the drummer from Dream Theatre

Mortal Reminder just as a name, sounds unbelievably cool in my opinion.
It implies that it exists to counteract someone's godlike ego, and brutally remind them of their mortality. In-game, it reduces healing and cleaves armor, specifically built to kill those who feel unkillable. If that isn't the most metal fucking concept ever, what is?
