In one of the old mangas there was a man that "raised" Vergil (can't think of another word right now) and he said that Vergil was a really nice kid that liked to read a lot, especially poetry. He'd go to the man and read some of his books, that's where V's personality comes from, V is just Vergil's human side obviously, but also his "nobody" because Vergil buries him down deep within him, and doesn't wanna show that side since he considers it weak (More spoilers) since Vergil was outside playing (as seen in DMC5 when V was talking about how he was playing) when the demons attacked and they almost killed Vergil who didn't have enough strength since he was really young to deal with them and that's why Vergil is obsessed with getting more power, so he'd never need anyone's help anymore, because he swore he'd never let something like that ever happen to him again.
In conclusion, Vergil is a really nice guy just blinded by trauma.

Video game music is the most underrated music. People shit on it for no reason when these composers are putting their all into making each song a banger. Like I read someone using “you probably listen to videogame soundtracks” as an insult and it’s so dumb that so many game composers go unknown bec people underestimate the genre

Honestly, I've never met someone in-person who ever trashed Video Game BGM.
I can only imagine it's snobbish musicians and related ilk, people I never fucking see.
Composers under the Big Three (Nintendo, Xbox, Sony) all have financial access to orchestra of any size, and to an extent smaller developer's too, just with a size (budget) limit.
Early VG composing is typified by innovation and intense creativity due to technological constraints.
Video Game Music isn't even a genre really, because OSTs vary wildly. From the Classical and (sometimes) Prog inspired Final Fantasy, to Death Metal Mick Gordon Doom, to the purely Rock inspired Megaman, hell indy title VA11 HALL-A (Valhalla) is comprised of various EDM (Electronic Dance Music) tracks from different electronic genres.

Yeah, I don't hang out with people who have this mentality, but I do occasionally cross paths with someone willing to let me know they think videogame music is "not real music." Sometimes they're highly competent snobs, but more often it's just people who view videogames as a low/simple form of entertainment, and they associate that view with the music that's paired with games.
I'm sure they exist, maybe even in great numbers, but I've never dealt with anyone who vehemently defended that view. They realize quickly that it's deeper than they think, at least when confronted with someone who's willing to point out how silly they were being.

If you're wondering why people suggested you listen to Devil Trigger first before Bury The Light, it's because the ending of Bury The Light (the final vocals and guitar solo) have a light motif of Devil Trigger. Casey's explained that he did that in order to connect the songs together because of the character's connection to each other in the story of the games. There's even a few lyrics that also connect Nero and Vergil together. Casey is an absolute genius and this song truly is a work of art! Glad you enjoyed it!

One of the reasons why this masterpiece is so long is because DMC uses a reactive sound track that amps the music up with how intense the combat is.

Victor Borba is indeed the vocalist, with Casey Edwards being the composer. And to answer the question of "Is this game footage?" yes. Yes it is, and it's awesome. A lot of people like to say Brutal Legend is a playable metal album cover because the visuals were literally inspired by them, but for my money, DMC is far more metal.

... I mean, you're RIGHT, but my heart still aches over the fact that Brutal Legend had to take the hit for a very valid, very precise compliment.
I guess I could just take solace in the fact it's very difficult to be more metal than Brutal Legend, and DMC is the only one to do so.

Fun fact, the lyrics start to really hit you once you know Vergil's story... Like hit you in the feels type.
Honestly, that's my favourite part of the song. It has this big, epic, menacing sounding to it. The lyrics are cool and all...Then, like halfway through you realize how much is Vergil's mentality, and coping with his past...And the ending, my fuckin god, it get's me every time.

Fun fact : Capcom forbid Casey Edwards to use electric guitars in the theme. To find a compromise, Casey recording a contrebasse (double bass in english ?) and distorted it with sound engineering to make the big Doom like sound. He explained in his interview done by Alex Moukala which is a really good watch and offers a lot of knowledge about the making of this song.
I find it hilarious that banning the use of regular guitars just results in an even heavier metal sound

I think this needs some clarification. Capcom set the expectation of not using electric guitars unless it was the chorus, which I did. Next, it's not a contrabass, it's a synthetic bass I made using U-He's Zebra that's been processed to hell and back. Cheers!

I think the important thing to remember about video game music is that it accompanies video games. So a lot of it is produced to work in concert with the visuals of the game; DMC music works so well because it really matches the tone of the game visually. I think Bury the Light works so well because of how heavy it is compared to the more irreverent rave music that Devil Trigger has. It's a bit like if you were listening to Paper Planes for a long time and all of a sudden Rammstein broke in through the door and announced themselves by playing Du Hast. Like it feels like a complete tonal shift, really adding impact to the weight of the song.

The announcement trailer for the Special Edition/Vergil DLC for this game came out on my birthday. I was already having a splendid day with my family, but this absolutely completed it. I was so damn excited and Bury the Light very quickly became my favourite song, period.

Devil may cry, like starwars, is basically super-powered family drama. Main plot point the whole damn time is two brothers (Dante and Vergil) constantly smacking eachother trying to be better than the other.
And yes, sir, that is indeed game footage. This game is a masterpiece in all aspects.
My only complaint about dmc5 was it was too linear.

This song was what single-handedly got me into the DMC series this year. Combined with some legendary gameplay from SunhiLegend in a 1 minute video uploaded by awonddy simply titled "I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING", it's pretty much everything I could ever want.
What's really great is that, though Casey Edwards says it wasn't intentional, the soft-spoken part of the song sort of resembles the last stretch of Devils Never Cry with the back and forth between angelic and demonic voices.
There's actually also the opposite vocals blended but they're more like whispers so that's why you cant hear them.
And the soft-spoken part before the back and forth reminds me of the first verses of Shall Never Surrender.
Truly a masterpiece.
You will have much more insight into its lyrics once you've experienced the story around Vergil.
Especially the chorus "I am the storm that is approaching" is such a nice reference!
I feel like DMC is a great series for someone who plays an instrument or makes music of any kind. When you really get into a flow state in the game it feels so familiar.
bury the light does have a minor callback to devil trigger signifying vergil's relationship with nero if you pay close enough attention...
It also has a very obvious callback to Devil's Never Cry, too. The whole song honestly feels like the entirety of the DMC series compressed into musical bliss.

One of the coolest things about dmc, is that gameplay and cutscenes mix so well. The devs go out of their way to make it to where everything you see in cutscenes can be done in game.

Also Andrew Hulshult. I got to the point where if I see a game composed by him, it's an instant buy. Yeah, even the Rise of the Triad remake. I basically bought a soundtrack that came with free janky game lol
The game has a combo meter in the game that increases as you get hits. The cool part is that the music will ramp up based on your combos for each of the different characters. It makes everything so effortlessly cinematic.
Love that the slow section at 10:00 is a callback to the Devil Trigger melody too
I'm not gonna lie. This is the best song out of all DMC songs, period. You've found the top of the mountain. It's a good thing you listened to Devil Trigger first... shame you didn't hear Nero's other battle theme from DMC4 before now, though.

This is what happens when a fan makes something for what he truly loves.
Devil May Cry is a series known for sadness, heartwarmingness and melancholy, you'll notice this in pretty much every Lyrical theme (minus DmC) that exists.
This franchise really made a before and after, even bring me into what I am, what I like today and I'm freaking happy with it.
Playing the games, get to know the story better and listening to these songs really gives you Goosebumps.
A must play for me and my personal recommendation 🎰

Glad you enjoyed it. This is basically an encapsulation of Vergil. The violins are references to V, there's references to some of the Devil May Cry comics, there's a passage adapted from a William Blake poem, and part of the guitar solo is lifted straight from, "Devil Trigger," because Vergil is Nero's father. Next you should do, "Fire Inside," which is also by Casey Edwards and Victor Borba, and, "Bury the Cringe a.k.a. Biboo Delight," by Koseki Bijou, who is a Hololive member and a certified Vergil fangirl who sang a parody version after she completed a Vergil playthrough with Casey Edwards watching in the stream (yes, seriously) with a video edited by Ludokano.
Virgil, the beginning and the end
The DMC franchise is one of the video games that has amazing soundtracks.
Seeing you react to DMC music for the first time is priceless. Such a cool series with such honest don't-give-a-damn tunes. Not sure if you check comments for requests, but I see you react to a lot of FFXIV music. There's another online game out there with a really unique and banging soundtrack called Phantasy Star Online 2. A few of the songs in that game took me completely by surprise, but very few content creators are reacting to them, or even know about the game's soundtrack. If you find the time, check out The Phantom Race - Esca Falz Mother Rideroid Part and Borderless for a couple of absolute bangers.

I love this song so much, I don't know how many times I listen to this song during the day. Some DMC songs I recommend you to listen one day are Subhuman (Dante's battle theme from dmc5), and two songs from the DMC reboot: Never Surrender by Combichrist and Lilith's Club by Noisia. You really should play it. The sick thing about the combat is that the song plays different verses depending on how well you play. So it matches whats on screen depending on how well you do.

I love this song so much, that whenever I got out in public, I put this on repeat in my noise-cancelling headphones, and just have it in the background. Just a bit of motivation, and something to focus on that's not that I'm around a lot of people.
i dunno if it is just me but the ''drums'' that play before the ''i am the storm that is approaching'' it really sound kinda like a thunder, and it kinda makes sence since it play's before the ''i am the storm'' and i think it is really cool

This song perfectly represents Vergil's life.
I find the hints related to the thought process behind the song to be amazing. Starting at 06:07, you might notice some supporting instrument directly following the vocal notes. That same instrument seems to be free to be whatever it wishes to be once the vocal section ends. I believe it is also the same instrument which hints an escalation later to full power, starting at 08:44, provoking and later supporting rebellious vocals again, but this time not following it. Finding out such details after listening to the song for God knows how many times feels like a reward.
