- čas přidán 26. 03. 2022
- In this video, I will show you a really cheap fix for the Transit connect EGR valve. The Transit has an engine management light on the dashboard, I need to fix the issue before I can sell it. This part seems a common part to fail and it only cost me £27. Let's see if it actually works. Also, I will be giving away a Topdon diagnostics scanner to one of my lucky subscribers very soon.

Nice fix well done good on you for giving that scanner away many others would sell it just shows what a top bloke you are
Great content! My regular garage told me the turbo had gone on my connect, with exactly the same engine as yours. Anyway, I wasn't convinced, so I had a recommended mobile mechanic run diagnostic on her, pressure check, etc... and turns out it's the EGR valve! Am waiting for mechanic to come back to me with a price. Depending on this, I may fix myself. Needless to say we now have changed our garage for all our repair and MOT works. You sir are a legend! And have earned another subscriber. Cheers mate, Richard.
Just brought the same van and same issue. I'm trying this tmrw. Had to pay to get it cleared but would also love the reader . Thanks for ur detailed video buddy.
Finally!! My egr valve is playing silly bollocks at the moment, I've stripped the valve actuator and cleaned it all out, might look into getting one of these bearing kits and give it another go!
Cracking little vans.....
More transit connect vids dude!!
What an 'easy' fix !. Delicate touch needed but a big saving to be made. Great informative and education vid as always. Loving the new scanner too, looks like a really good buy and probably will save the home mechanic more than its weight in gold. Keep them coming my friend.
Hi Big Man. Super fix on the EGR valve. Congratulations on your new job. Most will wait in the background for you to upload as and when you can. 👍👍
Great video it's always nice when you get an easy fix that doesn't cost the earth. Keep up the good work. 👍
Yeah I agree its never normally that easy lol.
Thank you for posting this video, this is really useful and something that for a little bit of work just shows how much money can be saved. I like the van, it runs really sweet and clearly been cared for and will sell no problem. I watched the video a while ago when you did the ball joints and brakes and enjoyed and learnt from that. I have been repairing cars of my own for all my life and would really like your old Topdon diagnostics tool. My wife has a Smart car and have had to ask a garage to reset the service indicator as I have serviced it for 11 years and the quick reset always fails after about two months. I could make use of this on my own car as well. Thanks for posting!
Thanks very much for watching 👀. Keep an eye out for the giveaway you never know you might just win it. I would love to give everyone one but that would cost a small fortune lol. The van sold already 😳 and is going to be converted into a camper van. The gentleman was well happy with it he didn't even knock me down with the price. Proves it was a cracking van. 👌 thanks for the support 👍
Argh nice easy fix for a change , as well as cheaper 👍 The van looks well tidy now and I'm sure it will be ideal for who ever buys it . Love the new scan tool too , although winning the old one would sort out and clear my faults . Some reason the AA will come out and diagnose it but wont turn off the codes 😫 Congrats on the new job also , you are one busy man 👍
just came across this on tube you are a gem I'm sorted so easy except🧐 dropped twice on reassemble thanks
I’ve been called a lot worse lol I’m glad I could help you, that’s what my channel is about.
You're a life saver. I have exactly the same van with exactly the same fault. I've been quoted in excess of £600 to replace the whole egr unit which I just can't afford, this video gives me the confidence to at least try this fix first and perhaps save a small fortune. Thank you so much, great work.
Good luck with your new job. Please keep vids coming, you give good content for us diy mechanics
That's very kind of you. I will definitely do my best to keep em coming 👍
Good bit of kit that lad I wasn't aware of the egr pin I replaced the whole unit 😂 cheers lad ill know for next time

They are definitely a must have these days with modern cars.

Hi, had same problem on my van thanks for the info van running well now. Will the topdon work on the Ford custom and ranger?
I just cold started my van with the actuator removed. Should the actuator start to spin when you rev the engine? Theres no movement in mine at all and am thinking it may need replacing (EML light on dash). Any advise appreciated. Thanks
I would love a top don but would afford one I had a stroke and my car is my life getting about but garage cost just kill me if anything went wrong with my cat this would be a god send thank you for a great video
Phil in stoke
Great video, just remember to remove the WiFi adapter after using it! Left mine in a mates car and had to drive 1 hour back to pick it up!...
if this bearing is broken will it cause hard start. ive been diagnosing fault code P0490 and found the bearing snapped and previous owner has put an egr blanking plate on. i took the the blanking plate out and it really stuggles to start. everything in the housing moves freely just lack of bearing will replacing this potentially sort the issue.
Very good mate
Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant idea to win scan tool 👍
hi have a ford 1.8 tdci 2007 and have the same problem on egr y change the electronic part and after 2 3 weeks the engine light is coming back i suppose that need original egr kit
Good call with Halfords socket sets....lifetime warranty on the pro series I believe?

Thank you
Brilliant video thank u 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent video. Let me add my case. The computer spits out fault code P0490. I'll write it here since I don't think it was covered as a possible cause for this fault in the video. And the fix in my case was free. Just some work.
The fault came and went. Mostly it was there. And in the end the check engine light was always on because of P0490. My EGR valve is hmm... immobilized. So it's just there to fool the computer into thinking it has an operating EGR system. That works great for me, and it's quite normal to do that modification as far as I know of.
So, in my case, there is no carbon buildup. Everything is very clean. But the fault was there. So I checked the fault code comments. And I figured out it has to be an electrical problem. I feared that the sensor was broken somehow or the motor that turns the valve wasn't working.
I checked the wiring for visible damage and corrosion in the plugs. It was all really clean and looked fine. But I cleaned the connectors just to be certain it wasn't the problem.
Fault code is still there - I mean, it can be deleted, but comes right back on again after a short while - like a minute or something.
So, I was about to go get a new one. When I thought - it is 150-200 euros for a part like that here at home, and maybe I could fix it for free...
I undid the screws on the black plastic part on the back of it. Took it off, and found the fault at once. The connectors that connect the motor to the wiring loom plug is apair of flat rectangular split in the middle connectors that squeeze another pair of flat rectangular connectors in the plastic part. It was to me very obvious when I took this apart that the contact there was poor. It was even a bit black from sparking I guess. So I cleaned the connectors, and squeezed the ones split down the middle with some pliers so I was sure it squeezed the other connector pins and made good contact again. Put everything back together.
Light was still on. To my disappointment because I was 100% certain I found the fault by now. I ran the engine for a couple of minutes and drove around the block, and the light went off. A friend checked the computer, and it still had the error code, but the light was now off. The error code was deleted and it's not come back ever since.
A good tip is to always see if parts can be fixed before buying new ones - which this video demonstrates so good. This was just another addition to possible causes of this very common problem with the EGR.
Now, I have driven the car for 2 years with the error code, I just didn't care because it didn't seem to cause any other issues. It went into limp mode a couple of times but then I just restarted the car and it was back to "normal". The only reason I was forced to fix this is because here at home the car needs to be inspected and it will not pass inspection with the check engine light on.
This is very interesting... I am having the same issue. I have used Wynns and Liqui Moly EGR cleaner into the air intake but no success. When on the motorway its fine, but intown driving and the light EML comes on. I even ordered a new EGR valve but same issue. I am going to try and fit the origional one back in withe your advice about the connector pins and see if it helps. Any idea what else I could do besides blanking it (which I really dont want to do here in UK, cars are inspected for emissions etc). Thanks
@@seekingilm87 Right. I am in Norway and we probably have very similar inspections. So. I was very surprised to find that blanking it actually worked. A car mechanic looked at it once and laughed a bit saying that will never pass emissions inspection. I dont know why but it passes here. Some others don't.
I really have no other advice than to just open it up every now and then and clean it with for example wd40. I mean the motor and sensor assembly and the valve.
Other than that EGR is a curse hehe.. one just have to clean the system every now and then.
But yeah.. if u are worried about immobilizing it, I wouldn't do it because u risk very much to damage it so its not working properly if u hmm un-blank it hehe.
What I think - to keep fault codes from appearing - u need to make sure things are turning freely in the assembly as much as possible. So try to clean it.
My fault definitely has come from vibration since the sensor and motor has always been free to move.
If u wanna try to blank it in a reversible way I'm sure thats possible. I just don't know exactly how to suggest u do it. And if u manage to blank it without damaging it - I would actually try to have it inspected with the egr blanked and see if it passes. If not just remove the mod and inspect again.
Sorry for not being able to offer u some good advice that makes it simpler. Someone else might tho... I'm not an expert hehe- I just try to approach things logically and see how far it takes me before it stops on its own hehe.
Good video pal, when’s the next Audi one?, looks just about ready 👍🏻
I'm well behind with the editing of the Audi videos its been a few problems with it but it's almost finished now. Next week will be the Audi again 👍
Hi have a Transit connect myself now i don´t have to worry and Topdon diagnostic tool still working?
Good video
Actually can you do me huge favour I have the same van the heater core was leaking anyway I put hoses back on can you please tell me the hose from the top right of the egr cooler does it go to the bottom of heater core?
Great fix mate my light is on too, where do you get the bearing kit bud
