I use Affinity Photo and with it I prefer to draw a rectangle (red stroke, no fill) the full width and height of the key blade. With the bottom of the rectangle aligned with the bottom of the blade, I then resize the top of the rectangle to align with each cut, one at a time, and read the dimension on the Transform panel. I find that a little easier than carefully redrawing the rectangle with the marquee tool for each cut and it works with a wider range of image editors since many don't display the size of the marquee the way the newer releases of Ps do.
Also, with my scanner and scanning software the TIFF format works best. The first time you do this, whatever format you choose, it is a good idea to include a ruler in the scan so that you can confirm that your scanning software is properly embedding the dimensions and ppi, that these are supported in your chosen format, and that your image editor is respecting the data properly.

Deviant Ollam recently did a video on this and shared free tools that make this much easier. He has images to compare against to decode in his GitHub that is easily found with Google. Kwikset, Schlage, Master, American, Yale, and more are there.

Isn't there some kind of decoding software where you stick a sensor inside the lock literally and it uses your phone shows you the tumblers the extension thereof or what have you?

IMHO this is why it's so important to have your keys covered up. I use a keychain key cover that doubles as a multi-tool to cover my house key

You should be able to accomplish the same thing using just digital calipers to get your 6 measurements. Just a thought for those who don't use or have photoshop to get the measurements.

The 1200 won't make any difference in solid black and white like you're scanning the 1200 would be good for half tone which then your key would look like it does when your eyeballs look at it you'd be able to see the lettering the SC4 designation the gold would reflect a little bit off of the page not color just black and white halftone and should be right there on the list and your scanner I would think that's what you would want to be scanning in then your key would almost look like it does on the table next to the print You could set them side by side and from a good scanner on a good printer almost not be able to tell them apart No kidding But I would think you'd know this
