    The Ebow is like a whole new instrument, I've been using it in both my music and as a side man in numerous bands for decades now. It's worth learning all of the principle techniques it entails to get the most out of it. Its absolutely one of the most versatile guitar devices made to date. I'd say on a basic level it sustains the string infinitely, but when you start to play around with the hotness of it in relation to the pickup, varying tone, adding dual delays etc it really opens up more possibilities and textures. In my last band Matthew Edwards and the unfortunates I used it like a viola or cello, lightly palm muting the strings to get a deeper tone. Live no one could tell the difference

      Yes Yes I like those finger covers. I have them but haven't tried them yet. If you get a cut, bad blister or whatever this could be thing that gets you through the show. This is sort of like the modern version of using duct tape or super glue on your finger. I have a bad nail biting habit and occasionally will bite or peel a callus right down to the red layer or even further. When I get a "bad peel", sometimes it takes 2 days before I can play with that finger. When you're peeling calluses, you're rolling the dice, you never know how deep a layer is gonna peel. 😃

      Funny thing. Once I learned to set up my guitar properly, my callouses went away. Took a little experimenting over time but shimmed the neck to change the angle slightly, neck is pretty much dead flat so the action doesn't change in the middle of the neck and I can get it super low. I'd give you numbers but I don't use them. I just get as low as possible without buzz. Had to do a little fret work to get it just right.

  • @1LegintheGrave
    @1LegintheGrave Před 5 lety +5

    The EBow is an incredible addition to have to an electric. He didn't go over it enough but it does have a 3-way switch: Normal, off, 1 Octave Up. The normal mode will keep the note at the standard note it's played on but the Octave up, as you can guess, will vibrate that string in a way that i'll jump that note up an octave.
    I've used it many times and playing it in a way that you can quickly jump a note up an octave, is very cool.
    Also, sounds best on the neck pickup, with the volume knob down (even clean, with volume up it will sound distorted), and tone knob down about 1/2 way.
    Many musicians use this. It was made popular by the amazing Phil Keaggy.
    Another fun thing to do with it is play something like an open Am or Em, move the Ebow across the strings back'n forth lightly w/o touching the strings. Cool effect.

      @BertGrink Před 5 lety +2

      Mac, I guess there IS something like a due diligence process, a least in some countries; e.g. Britain has the Advertising Standards Authority, but long as it is a bona fide product being advertised and it's not an obvious ripoff, I think that should be okay.
      Like you, however, i'm no expert in these matters either so don't quote me in a court ;)
      Your thoughts about a magazine suffering damage to their reputation IF they run ads for fraudulent merchandise seems well founded, though, in my opinion.
      But then again, you can hardly blame the publication if the advertiser goes out of business for any reason, before the ads themselves can be canceled. As you may or may not know, big magazines have production times of 2 to 3 months, so a lot of things can happen during that time.

    Sound city soundtrack had the EBow. Video was published on youtube in June 2013. The vid has a single shot of the guitarist Rick Nielsen playing with an ebow at 1:20.

    6:17 Those rubber finger guards remind me of Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, and his solution to losing his fingertips in an industrial accident! Although he melted the plastic from a Fairy Liquid bottle and shaped it on the end of his finger stumps, and glued small leather strips to the ends to provide the grip needed to hold the strings down without slipping....a very ingenious solution.

    There was a period where my dermatitis was so bad that my fingertips would bleed when sliding across thin gauge strings. I wore bandaids to protect them but those wittle finger guards would have helped a ton!

    The EZ Fret does have a potential use aside from beginners. Even advanced players who happen to have arthritis can suddenly struggle playing guitar. My friend who has played guitar for many years has severe arthritis and has had to get several knuckles fused to deal with the pain, meaning he can barely play guitar anymore as it is too painful.
    I wonder if this "EZ Fret" would allow him to play again in some form.

      He did mention in the video that the only situation where it would be of benefit would be for someone with a disability preventing them from playing guitar. Maybe get it as a gift for him

    I have something called Charot-Marie-Tooth and I sometimes have trouble hold certain cords and definitely bar cords. I could see how the Ez fret would alleviate some of these issues. But it's more satisfying to figure out alternative ways to play cords in the long run.
