Making Tsubasa lose the battle by self-destructing himself, is purely and openly using plot-armor. They had to make Gingka and Dashian battle each other, after teasing us with their first fight. Masamune had to win against Chao Xin, as he is a newly introduced character. That left only Tsubasa to lose (even if it meant making an excuse of self-destruction) so that Gingka would get his chance.
I mean it does make sense to have losing control as a drawback, using the dark power isn't supposed to be a good thing.
I mean...On one hand, yeah, Tsubasa had to lose this match because of the plot for Gingka to finish his fight against Da Xian. But on the other hand, we could also say that Tsubasa’s dark power was the ultimate plot armor here, because it was the only thing that even gave him a chance ; Chi Yun was destroying Tsubasa easily before the dark power came out, and he definitely would have won + he managed to tank Eagle’s ppwer that much time before the self destruction and still remained spinning relatively fast after (it was wobbling but not on the verge lf stopping). Even if the self-destruction was plot, Chi Yun deserved to win.

I mean, it could've ended in a tie and it would be the same (maybe even getting Yu an excuse for a promised battle in case Gingka would "lose"). However, Dark Power is in general not supposed to be a good thing. It's not there to help Tsubasa, it's there to control him and make him insane. There would be no real gain here. And Tsubasa lost because he couldn't control himself, the power he had blew up in his face as expected.

Otome was so cool she would have been a fun and likeable character in the show. A beyspirit girl that could have lended some help sometimes and just extend what we know about beyblades.

Nope, Chi Yun wanted Tsubasa to unleash his dark power, but the moment he did Chi Yun lost control over the situation and the only reason he won was that Tsubasa self-destructing himself. If that didn't happen Chi Yun would've absolutely lost because he got too cocky thinking it's ok for him to provoke Tsubasa's darkness like that. You can win throughout the entire match, but the tables still can turn and you could still end up losing in the end. Tsubasa lost to Ryuga in spite of Tsubasa being first to defeat his dark move and clapping him before Ryuga got himself a second wind, same for Kyoya and Ryuga. And heck, even battle between Tsubasa and Argo you have Argo give Tsubasa a hard time but the moment Tsubasa realised where Ray Gil's weak spot was, it was game over for Argo. Chi Yun won by luck.

Unpopular opinion, chi yuns shit talking was valid this match and he had what it took to back it up because he was cooking tsubasa before tapping into dark power. And still won after 👀
Chi Yun had a good counter to Tsubasa's tactics, but he wasn't really stronger than him.
But even chinyun said tsubasa was holding back.

Dark Power may give Tsubasa a second wind, but at the time the Dark Power didn't give Tsubasa more power than he already had, as Dark Tsubasa in his fight with Chi Yun isn't stronger than Tsubasa while clapping Ryuga before Ryuga unleashed his second dark move. Tsubasa absolutely has a raw power that could outmatch Chi Yun, but he wasn't using it as Tsubasa's battling style is about skill and strategy, something Chi Yun can easily counter as part of his own training at Beylin Temple. If Tsubasa used his actual passion like in his battle with Jack, he would win against Chi Yun, which is also why Chi Yun was taunting him, to get that passion, though at the time Chi Yun thought that it was the dark power that gave Tsubasa a true passion, but that wasn't the case.

Tsubasa's defeat was fair. Chi Yun was stronger than Tsubasa at the time, it was a close call due to the dark power.
There's a difference between strength and a good counter. Much like in Pokemon, you could still have quite a strong dragon-type that still cowers in front of a fairy due to the disadvantage.
