  • The Nissan 400Z is coming - but what is its closest relative at the moment? For starters - the 3.0 turbocharged V6 that powers the Q50 and Q60 is a workhorse that is overlooked. With simple bolt ons this Infiniti Q50 made 525HP to the wheels! So what's it like driving a potential sneak peek of the Nissan 400Z? Let's go for a drive and find out. Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Sundays!

The q60 red sport is extremely overlooked, but overall the BMW 340i is way better in my opinion than the q50 since they are around the same price, the b58 can make 542 who stock turbo, and the stock block can make around 1000hp.

The hybrids are major sleepers. Downside is they can't be tuned at this point. But if somebody figured it out and added turbos, they'd instantly be in business with a 600whp car - flat torque line - that flies through the corners.

Regarding paddles... every S badge comes with paddles. Every engine option* does or has had Sport trim.
Even if it's not an S trim, almost all of them are prewired for paddles. It's the same paddles as Gs and Zs off ebay or elsewhere.
And even if they aren't prewired, it's just 2 molex pins in the combo meter and gnd... find an electronics inclined friend, it takes 10 minutes with crimpers.

I own a 2016 3.0t silver sport, and I think you chose the wrong first impression by getting a base model. I think if you were to get a sport trim with the same mods you would appreciate the R35 paddle shifters, and the factory BBK on the car. These things with supporting mods and a tune makes it insane, I love mine!

@@cherry1le you can't find a 340i for anywhere near the same price. A b58 is not making 540whp lol. The vr30 can make more on the stock turbos but the gearbox sucks and it will be less reliable then the b58.

@@xoulmannn Is the 370z a skyline because it stated off in Yokohama as well? No, it is not.
In the late 90's Nissan made the decision to split the 300zx into two cars because it cost more than a corvette, 1 car was intended to be a sporty GT to attract those who liked the luxury of that generation that became the G35(now Q50) the other car went on to become the 350z a dedicated sports car that was still affordable.
If you have any doubt too this look at the generational naming of all of the skylines, R32,R33,R34 and R35 etc. The G35/37/Q50 share none of those
      designations.

      1) Why are you mentioning the Fairlady? I mention Skylines being manufactured in Yokohoma so people don't say that the "Infiniti" version and the regular Nissan Skyline are two different cars, when in fact they are the SAME car. It's irrelevant for you to bring up the Z32, because the Skyline has nothing to do with it. The next Fairlady is the Z33 and only the Z33, also known as the 350Z. Not the Skyline. Sure, the Fairlady and Skyline share the same platform, engine, and some minor components, but that's it. Same thing with the S13 Silvias & the 180sx. Two DIFFERENT cars, but used the same chassis and some internals.
      2) If anything, Nissan was on the brink of bankruptcy and wanted to carry on two of their most precious car models, the Fairlady and the Skyline, in the cheapest way possible by making them share platforms.
      3) I don't think you know a lot about Skylines, but the first Skyline appeared in 1957 from a company named Prince and its generation/chassis name was ALS1. Then you had two other generations by the name of BLRA & S50. Then when Prince merged with Nissan in 66', you had the C10, C110, & C210. After that in the 70s I believe, came the arrival of the R30, then later on, came the R31, R32, R33, R34 gens. which most people only know about. Then in 2001, the Skyline did not die. In fact, all ER/HR34s (non-GTRs Skylines) stopped production mid-2000, but then came the V35 Skyline, rebadged for the US as the G35. After that you have V36, rebadged as the G37 for some markets and then currently the V37, rebadged as Q40/50/&60s.
As you can see, the generational/chassis codes have never been consistent and most Skylines (fun fact) are not even R-series skylines. So what you mention about the chassis codes is irrelevant. Nissan didn't have to continue the R-series if they didn't want to.
Look at the Honda Civic; You have EK/EG/EF/FN/FD/etc. .... all different chassis designations, but different cars? Maybe in generation, but the model itself (Civic in this case) is the same across the board.
      4) Lastly, you mention the V-series Skyline being a GT Sports Car, but it never really was. It was just another entry-level luxury & sports sedan and coupe like the very first Skylines back in 57'. Essentially, the Japanese 3-series.
      Edit:
Also the R35 is not a Skyline, even though it's platform is based off the Z and Skyline.

As an Infiniti owner that is a base model and that is why you don’t get the paddle shifters are the sport bucket seats with the extended thighs supports. As you pointed out that Infiniti is missing the sixpiston floating caliper set up. 2014 Q50S AWD 3.7L 328hp with the five by wire steering & a birdseye view surround camera system. Now I have a 2015 Q70L long wheel base 3.7L 330hp with the technology package and sport package. There is a huge difference between a base model Infiniti & a upgraded interior package. Unfortunately there is more base model Infiniti‘s then there is upgraded interior package Infiniti‘s out there in the wild. Some infinities have a Japanese ash wood interior. That one has the fake stainless steel panels. I bet you it doesn’t even have the premium Bose surroundsound with 16 speakers.

@@EllisBatishchev Okay, but it's a Skyline everywhere else too, even though it's not called it. Literally, the Infiniti G35, G37, Q40, Q50, & Q60 are just half of the Skylines, which where built in the same Yokohama factory, but were converted to LHD, given Infiniti badges, & exported to the US, Taiwan, Canada, & select parts of Europe. That's all there is. It's the same car just with different badging. And the car is a Skyline because the parent company is Nissan & the parent car nameplate is the Skyline.
This is a phenomenon called rebadging and it's primarily used by companies for marketing purposes.
If you want more examples, look at these:
Acura RSX = Rebadged DC5 Integra
      Acura CSX = Rebadged Civic
Chevy SS = Rebadged Holden Commodore
Mercury Capri = Rebadged Foxbody Mustang
GMC Sierra = Rebadged Chevy Silverado
Pontiac GTO = Rebadged Holden Monaro
Mercury Milan = Rebadged Ford Fusion
Infiniti G25 (1st gen.) = Rebadged Nissan Primera
      Lexus IS300 = Rebadged Altezza

I had a 2017 red sport q60 had a bunch of issues bought it brand new. Dumb decision because I paid over 64k plus tax, fees etc. was so just excited about it but the value of it went down so fast in under 3 years. After a year of ownership I started to heat soak a lot, was running under boost, also the turbos were making weird clanking noises so the dealer replaced it. Keep in mind I’m stock I always wanted to upgrade the heat exchanger but it will void the warranty. One day engine was making weird noises it started to really lose power as well. Turns out it was the drive belt but I’m not done yet the engine actually did gave out at only 34k miles it started to knock so dealer replaced the motor for free through warranty. If you think that’s over I’m not finish yet. This time around the car started to overheat with a newer engine. At this point I complain to the dealer about it and they couldn’t figure it out on why it’s overheating, coolant is good, water pump is good, oh btw the red sport uses two water pumps and for some reason I only had one it took nearly a whole month trying to call and deal with service for them to figure this shit out. They put in the secondary water pump, gave me a couple of free oil changes for the trouble. Even with the new water pump it will still overheat. Decided to call corporate and made a huge complain turns out the service didn’t do a good job installing the motor. After the dealer refuse to help me with this lemon of a car. I decided to call corporate once again and file a lawsuit and agreed to actually buy my car for price of my loan because I didn’t want it anymore. The headaches and sleepless nights wasn’t worth it. I rarely full send it and I don’t boost all the damn time. I just got a lemon I hope they fix all the issues with the 400z with better seals in the engine, better drive belt, better heat exchanger. I bought a 50k mile 2015 q50 3.7 for only 14k sure it’s not as quick but these vq37 engines are bulletproof. I now have 112k miles on it and have zero issues.

    1. Small brakes: Most Q50S and all Q50RS 400 come with bigger rotors, and bigger Akebono Calipers. You can just upgrade your brakes at any time if you have baby brakes.
    2. Paddle Shifters: Most Q50S and all Q50RS 400 come with paddle shifters. You can retrofit paddle shifters to any Q50.
If you don't want the hassle of retrofitting stuff yourself then just make sure you buy a Q50S with the Sport Package or a Q50RS 400.

      Not really. I for one, don't think my Q50 sounds is a GTR. Know the facts;
The 2016+ Q50/2017+ Q60 uses the VR30DDTT - Twin Turbo Direct Injection. Not exactly a GTR engine. I'm not sure if they share anything at all but the exhaust note has some similarity with the GTR's note.
