Kentucky and Mississippi are interesting off-year bellwethers this time around. Both deeply red states, one with a popular democrat as governor, and the other with an unpopular republican governor. If Republicans win both, it might show that job performance and personality won’t matter as much as party affiliation, people in those states will be voting with hate of national democrats in their heart. But if Bershear holds on and Reeves is removed, it might actually show that voters are paying attention to what their local leader say and do, instead of voting on their impressions of the national political parties (and that might actually benefit Democrats a bit more in the long run).

What Virginia is the rare occasion where you have battleground state (really more lean blue) with a Republican governor who is not seen as completely deplorable. Yet, I don’t think he gets away with using a parental rights/education platform (clearly a 2024 Presidential campaign position) to grab total control of the legislature. The toxicity of national Republicans still weighs on him, and thus, I think Dems keep one of those houses in the legislature.
I have a family member that nearly died when a tubal pregnancy ruptured in week 20-21! Somehow it was not detected sooner.

My sister also had a tobular pregnancy. They wanted a baby so much. These situations are emergencies. If my brother in law would have lost his wife and his baby. He would have been devastated. These people won't realize the consequences until an emergency hits their home.

I'm not sure that Kentucky is a good litmus test for the 2024 national election because it's so darn maga. That said, however, if Governor Beshear can win reelection, it might say something about the need for the Democrats to nominate moderates in some of these Southern states rather than progressives.
Because deep down it’s because of abortion! Off year is bad but I feel numbers are good and I’ve seen the signs!
It honestly speaks to candidate quality over merely towing party lines. Beshear still aligns with Democrats on most issues, but he’s shown to be adept at rallying support and has a good track record in the governor’s seat. Also name recognition doesn’t hurt too.
@@randomone4832 I agree. Even so, I remember the antagonism some progressives here in Kentucky had with Amy McGraff when she won the primary to challenge Mitch. Charles Booker, for example, even refused to campaign with her. Then, 2 years later, because of the progressives in this state he was nominated to run against Rand Paul. It wasn't pretty. Now, that's not to say I don't support progressive candidates. I voted for Charles Booker when he ran against Rand Paul. I even contributed to his campaign. But what I'm tired of is the "I'm gonna' take my ball and go home" attitude by the progressives whenever a moderate Democrat beats them. That has to stop!
@@jamesburgin8168 Couldn't agree more. More voters need to be pragmatic! I love young, progressive voters who are fired up about making a difference, but they need to be smart about compromising. Like in 2016, I had a couple friends go third party and I'm sure many others did as well in order to "wipe their hands clean," and look what happened. They effectively materialized the outcome that they wanted least. Democrats need to get smart!

Need more specific reporting when available on gender votes, Independent/Non-affiliated votes. Women, including Rs, driving Ohio Issue 1+ similar referenda. Are they, voting Dem in other State races? Are Indies/unafiliated voters voting Dem or R?
