  • In this video I show the equipment I use for recording voice-overs. There are many, many different options out there, and this video just shows my personal choices. I explain my reasons for some of the equipment along the way.
    I hope you find the information helpful!

    Thanks for explaining all the technical stuff so well. Have been trying to get into VO for the past two months and you explained in detail and so well about which equipment does what. Once again Thank You!

    Great video ... I am wondering what you would recommend for someone today just starting out in voice over , price wise for equipment ?

    Hi, man. What's the lavalier mic you use here?

  • @GeorgeDekker

    nice plug for the podcaster. just got the procaster (xlr version) which needs all the gain the dbx 286s can give (same as sm7b) which leads me to believe that it's quite impossible to get a nice clean sound out of the podcaster without major compromise. I would be too good to be true.

    I have an M-Audio mic, but with USB connector. Whilst I will upgrade. Do I need this equipment as with a USB it cannot connect to the units shown?

    You really need good studio sound-proofing to get away with the top-end condenser mics.

  • @chefsathomewithmickiandjef3548

    Great video, Sir. Thanks, answered many of my questions. Question: Have you worked with the Rode NT1-A at all? It's very well reviewed for the price. Been away from VO for awhile, and want to make my first new investments count without breaking the bank.

    Great stuff. I'm a big fan of your videos and tutorials. I'm using the Rode Podcaster Mic on many of my voice overs and monologs over the past few months. It gives really good audio quality without all the extra mess of pre-amps, and digital converters. Just plug it directly into the computer via USB and you are in business. I have no doubt that Izzy's setup gives a better overall quality, but given the fact that most people are watching the videos with small computer speakers anyway, I doubt most folks would ever be able to tell much difference. Not to mention that it's a small fraction of the cost. Give and take, right?

      Dirt Bike Channel Yes, for sure. And I like the audio quality from that mic too.

    Hello I am looking for the type of pop filter that you have been using in the video for a long time and can not get, can you please give me a link from where to purchase it? It will help me a lot

    Here's a much cheaper alternative to what he has that will still provide professional level quality.
    - Alesis Multimix 4 for the interface (or ADC)
    - DBX 266XL for the preamp (Can also act as a signal processor which WILL save you time during post)
    - MXL 990 for the mic
    And it should all cost below the preamp he has.

    • @johnjackson8902
      @johnjackson8902 Před 7 lety

      StringStorm ‌ Yeah pretty much any $70+ MXL mic should give you good results.

    How good is the noise to signal ratio on your pre-amp?

    • @izzyvideo
      @izzyvideo  Před 9 lety

      Steven Rix I don't know the technical stats, but subjectively it's been great to my ears.

    • @stevenrix7277
      @stevenrix7277 Před 9 lety

      izzyvideo I can't get a good audio. My pre-amp is a presonus and probably the worse pre-amp i have seen, it makes it harder to clean out audio. I might buy instead a Warm Audio pre-amp with a hardware compressor (although I use audacity). I have the same microphone stand that I bought at Guitar Center, very sturdy.

    • @izzyvideo

      It's not an enormous upgrade, but I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 these days.

    For CZcams voice over you can't beat the TLM102/ aka Sennheiser MK4 with wind screen instead of clumsy pop filter and NO shock mount into a dbx286 preamp directly into a MacMini line in...pristine sound...don't do USB if you are doing screencasting!
