- This is my SIX MONTH update to my first-day cloth diapering video, and I'm telling you how it really is as a first-time cloth diapering mom. I explain my struggles and confusion having used cloth diapers for only six months in so far; washing cloth diapers, dealing with poopy cloth diapers, traveling with cloth diapers, folding cloth diapers, and generally how we're doing so far. If you enjoyed this video or found it helpful, please check below to binge-watch my mom vlogs!

Heyy I don't know if you know but there's a spray guard you can purchase off of Amazon
Thank you for this! Between your first video on cloth diapers and this one, I've learned a lot and I so appreciate seeing women who look like me in the mommy influencer world! Your connection with your kiddos is heart-warming!
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for your comment!!
Thank you for this video and the 1st Day Diapering video. It’s super helpful. I love seeing your genuine love for your baby (and your doggie). You rock pretty momma! 😘
You are so welcome! I just posted a one-year update video last week! :)
How precious is your sweet girl! Thank you for this very simple video on diapers. I have gotten so overwhelmed looking at diaper videos because they have 9,000 different brands and styles and every accessory out there. It gets so overwhelming that it almost makes you feel like you need those brands and that many diapers to be successful at it. Just a simple video like this is what a beginner needs!
You are so welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful! I have a first day cloth diapering video, and I'm about to post another (about diaper rashes) right now.
Just finished watching the first video vlog, and I know I’m pregnant but seeing her so tiny and happy and now seeing the WAVE 😭💕 she is beautiful and so are you and your family. So grateful for your videos!!! Ty ty ty
Thank you so much!! Congrats on your pregnancy!
This is seriously the most complete cloth diaper video. Such good content! We cloth diaper too and I love seeing other families who do it.
Thank you so much!! You don't know how much I appreciate that!
Awesome video!!! So great seeing a beautiful Black family cloth diapering... new subbie 💞
Appreciate your transparency SiStar!
I appreciate that
I remember cloth diapering days and loved it. Our bidet was easier to install and I was happy to help the planet with cloth diapers. Plus, my son didn’t get diaper rash while wearing them. We switched to regular ones for daycare and first time diaper rash appeared! We continued cloth at home though. Daycare doesn’t do cloth.
Yes, we are looking at daycares closer to where we moved and each one we’ve asked does not allow cloth diapers. I'm not too surprised, but I wonder what they do for babies who are allergic to diapers 🤔 I was allergic as a baby so I was potty trained super early. I almost forgot about diaper rash which is crazy to even say. That is definitely another piece of mind!
I know this is months old but I use a store brand of baby detergent, borax, baking soda and a little oxy-clean to clean our cloth diapers. I wash every other day. Rinsing the poopie diapers in the toilet with our toilet attached rinser. I keep everything in a bucket under our bathroom sink. No solution in the bucket. I spray it down with mrs meyers all purpose spray so it never smells- it always smells like the cleaner. I’ve learned tucking the protector around her thighs pretty tightly works perfectly to make sure she doesn’t leak. My baby is 9 weeks old- but, I’m confident I’ll keep going with cloth diapering. We also use disposables for traveling since my family is between 4+ and 12+ hours away by car. I don’t want to have to wash diapers in other peoples machines or in their toilets if I don’t have to. Great video!
Yes, thats actually very similar to my wash routine. I posted an updated video about a month ago: czcams.com/video/_hh8cpqkNxc/video.html
@@VictoriaVaden thanks so much! I loved your video. Did you ever try boiling your diapers that were repelling? Back in the day- they always boiled them and never really had issues with repelling even though they used things like Vaseline and other ointments.
Love the plaid print, and the update! :-)
Thanks for watching!
this video was soo real and much appreciated
thank you for watching!! :)
Love this video, super helpful! Thank you!!
You're so welcome!
This is the most helpful video I’ve watched yet!!
Awww yay!! I did a one-year update where I mentioned cleaning and bleaching and traveling.
Thank you for this video! My husband and I agreed from the start to cloth diaper. Our first is due in July.
That is awesome! Congratulations btw!
Your opening photo for the video with you two is EVERYTHING, your faces! 💜😂💜😂💜
Awww lol thank you!!!
Hey Victoria! Thanks for the great video! Your daughter is SO beautiful! ❤
My husband and I are expecting our first born in early September and we plan to cloth diaper starting shortly after the umbilical cord falls off. One thing I've researched that you mighty find helpful with the whole.. splash going everywhere when you clean the poop out in the toilet dilemma, is a thing called a "spray pal" also called a "cloth diaper spray shield" sometimes. I follow two cloth diapering mommies on YT that use them, and they swear that they make the whole process SO much less messy! It could be worth a try, if you're still looking for a solution. I found one of good quality on Amazon and added it to my registry, it's about $25. A cheaper hack along the same lines I've heard of is making your own out of a small plastic garbage can by cutting the bottom out, so if you're into DIY stuff at all, that could be worth looking into too. Hope this helps! Keep up the great work! ✌
Thank you!!
That baby girl is so energetic!
She really is! LOL
This is such a helpful video, thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
I just watched your first video they were both very informative ❤
oh yay i'm glad they're helpful! and thank you haha :)
The intro is 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Oh my goodness power to you for getting that sprayer. Idk how you cleaned up the diapers before with the more solid poops lol.
Girl I was SO annoyed lol.
Props to you MOM! I have always wanted to use cloth diapers...but I just don’t have the drive or Just being lazy I guess 🤭🤭😬
Omg! And that toilet sprayer is GENIUS!!!
Haha, I love it but it's def a learning curve. My mom is surprised I'm still doing it lol. I'm surprised she didn't cloth diaper me though because I was allergic to disposable diapers when I was a baby. 🤷🏽♀️
She’s adorable 😍
Loved this video! My daughter wore her first cloth diaper last night she is 9 months. New subbie!
Thanks for subbing! How's it going now? (I know I'm responding super late)
@@VictoriaVaden no worries! Cloth diapering is going ok we just struggle at night! Hope you are doing ok!
I'm also preparing to cloth diaper and totally new to the scene but I wanted to share that Amazon sells a sort of giant funnel that you can put into the toilet and spray the diapers into so that the overspray doesn't go everywhere
I am going to buy this funnel everyone keeps mentioning when I birth my baby boy next month
Gracias por tu video saludos desde mexico
Thanks for sharing your beginner experience😊
One of the things I have seen when researching other cloth diapering moms, is called
" Spray pal-original cloth diaper sprayer splatter shield " it's like $25 bucks on Amazon....Its exactly what it sounds like, and it will help keep diapers from making a mess on your toilet and around the toilet, or even on you as you rinse the poop off. Just thought I'd share!
I mentioned the shield in the cloth diapering 1-yr update that I just posted haha
@@VictoriaVaden Its a game changer, lol I knew when I saw it that it would be the reason my husband would agree to cloth diapering because that was his main concern. 😂
Nice overview! Gotta say that edit when you were changing her was smooth! We just started cloth diapering my son for about a day. My son is 22mons and just about ready for potty training, so I'm hoping we can cloth diaper him all the way up until he's fully trained. I kind of cold turkeyed it and we onlh have about 10 disposal diapers left 😬
Awww hahaha thanks for noticing my edit!! LOL and that's great! Do you have any tips? I plan to start Mariah early, but def dropped the ball with Mya when she was younger (she learned pretty late (well, according to my parents lol)). P.S. We did cold turkey too lol.
My son is our 2nd, my girl was fully trained (night & day) right before 3. In my opinion she probably could've been trained 100% before that since we did early introduction at about 9 months lol. My mom said if she can sit up, she can sit on a toilet lol. So since about 12 mons she mostly did #2 on the toilet when were home. I'm hoping to do the same with my son. He's done a few days with no diaper and he's went a few times on the toilet in the last month or so. My thought to do cloth came from him having accidents in the underwear. I would say as early as you want to, introduce baby girl to the toilet to see how she reacts. I think being comfortable is half the battle. Good luck!
Thank you! Love that this is from a first timer. I'm due in October and have been planning out the logistics of cloth diapering. What brands do you use for your wet bag and pail? I'm not planning on doing laundry everyday so how well does the bag/pail hold in the smell of soiled diapers?
Wegreeco on amazon! It holds up VERY well, way more than I would've guessed. Did you deliver yet???
Such a helpful video!!!
Yay!! Thanks for watching! My next video on cloth diapering is regarding diaper rash. Really shocking when we experienced it recently (but not for the reasons you'd think smh).
this was such a cute video!
Haha thank you!!
Thanks this is A I needed video because I plan on Starting at 2 months too
Glad you found it helpful! I am filming another about diaper rashes with cloth diapers this week.
Victoria Vaden awesome Can’t wait
Omg! She is so cute 🥰
Thank you!!
Thank you 💗 for sharing
Thank you for posting this video. It has helped us so much. Do more cloth videos like this!!! Do you only use ALVA Baby cloth diapers now that you are more comfortable? I have so many of Mama Koala's. I think I'm addicted and the baby hasn't even arrived yet! HAHA!
I'm filming another one this week! It should be live on Saturday. I had to wait for new products, and wanted to test them before talking about them in the video. But to answer your question, I still have the same Alva baby diapers that I showed in this video and my last. It's been almost a year. I'm debating buying more, but I haven't just yet.
If you cut out the bottom of a small trash can, like the small ones you buy for a room or bathroom, get you some clips. Use two clips to clip the poopy diaper inside the can, poop side up. Then use the sprayer. It prevents it from splashing everywhere
I saw some other comments suggest the same thing! I may have to do that since we didn't bring our cloth diaper sprayer with us on our recent move, and we are cloth diapering our third baby due in a few weeks.
Hello there, just visiting your channel from a comment you posted on Erin On Demands how to vlog video.
We did cloth diapering for our first child but abandoned it for convenience. ha
Hi there! My husband isn’t keen on it. He always tries to put her in a disposable, despite how much money we’ve saved...we were wasting diapers, because as soon as Mariah tinkled, she wanted to be changed lol smh.
This was a great video !! I always heard about it for years and cringed now I’m actually pregnant and considering it ! I saw a ladies video where her husband cut a hole out the bottom of a trash can and she clipped the diaper inside over the toilet so poop didn’t get everywhere !
I have heard that too! Did you purchase anything yet? Congrats on your pregnancy!
Oh man, you have totally convinced me to use a diaper laundering service 🤣. You have an absolutely beautiful family!
LOL thank you
Hey Baby Gurl!!!! 👋 She's getting so big!! She's such a happy beautiful baby!!! 💕💕
She really is!
It's great to see she's eating her greens! 😄🤣👍🎄
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
She is adorable 😍
thank you!
Have you tried using the disposable liners for poop? So you don’t have to spray the diapers in the toilet every time it’s a poopy diaper? Just curious cause I’m going to cloth diaper with my first born who is born in July!
Awww tooo cute 💗💗💗
Thank you!!
I bought cloth. I had a lot of leaks and a really fussy baby, so I gave up and sold them. Now he is almost 2, so I bought another used stash. He is such a heavy wetter!!! He soaked through in 1 1/2 hours with 2 liners.
Are you only using cloth liners or the ones for overnight (like bamboo and hemp)?
Could you recommend the brands I should order the liners? Diapers? And whatever I need for clothe diapering plssss!!
I've always used Alva Baby, and the liners I mentioned in this video (they should also be linked in the description box). I have an Amazon section too that includes everything I found the most helpful, and what I am purchasing now that I am expecting our third baby.
You should try out the SprayPal Sprayer Splatter Shield. It’s on Amazon and it prevents droplets and poop from flying all over the place
Someone else mentioned that too. I need to see if I can find it!
Victoria Vaden you can also find diy diaper sprayer shields on Pinterest for super cheap just FYI 😊
Victoria Vaden spraypal, spraymate, spray stand there are several kinds
Idk if you found a method to be less messy when spraying off poop but some people get a round trash cut out the bottom pin the diaper to the top of the trash and spray that way that way everything stays in the toilet and trash then just do a quick rinse of the trash when done.
Yes, I mentioned why I didn't purchase this in my latest cloth diaper video. So many people have said it is helpful though :)
To rinse the diaper I see a video of the lady who does what you do but she used a small trash can with the bottom cut out clipped the diaper to it and rised it. So the poo didn’t go everywhere
Oh wow that is very unique lol
Hey, today is day 1 for us. 3 year old daughter. Any more tips/advice you want to share?
I have a first day update video and I just posted a one-year update video last week! Here's my recent video if you're not subscribed: czcams.com/video/_hh8cpqkNxc/video.html
If you haven't already figured out a good nighttime solution to her flooding her diapers, I would suggest finding some quality hemp inserts. They were a life saver. I use one hemp and one bamboo and it lasts all night where as I was using 3 bamboo and a flour sack towel and he was still flooding. I made my own hemp inserts because it seemed like the cheaper route considering the cheapest hemp inserts I was finding was $6 for per 3 layer insert, but now that I have made some, if I end up needing more, I would gladly spend that price knowing how well they work and HOW MUCH THEY HOLD!!!!
Yes I have 4 hemp inserts! Charcoal ones and flour sack cloths too. I just posted a one year update and I discussed why I was having such an issue. Newbie problems.
Can you send the link where you got the water hose at please (: p.s. thank u for your video so much help .
Of course! I usually put everything in the description box, but I probably forgot! Here ya go (and sorry if I did!): amzn.to/2zC08Bm
Hi! Thank you for this video, baby is on the way and i am really trying to learn all i can. Just a question about the overnight Diapering.. not sure if this was asked.. but you mentioned that your baby had one on from 8pm to 8am the next morning, is it because your technique is super absorbent? I am very concerned about rashes... THANKS
Hello! Yes, I showed in this video how I layer my overnight diapers. Mariah only has diaper rashes with disposables. I am filming a video specifically on what I've learned with diaper rashes though, so hopefully that's helpful. But, yes, I would (in essence) change her diaper as close to 8-8:30pm as possible, and I would actually change her (as she got a little older) closer to 6 am. She doesnt usually tinkle a lot overnight, but has a big wee just before 6 am.
Does washi g the diapers in the washing machine make it smell or do you put vinegar in it to rinse it out after washing? I'm really interested in cloth diapers but am nervous about eventually messing up the washer. Thank you so much!
I did a one year update video where I talked about washing and stripping them because they began to smell. I would suggest everyone who is interested to try cloth diapering, but it comes with patience, trial and error. I don't think you'll mess up your washer unless you aren't clearing diapers of solids, ya know? But I'm also not a "professional" with cloth diapering either. I am due to give birth to our third baby, and I'm cloth diapering again, so it wasn't scary enough to make me go back to using disposable diapers.
What detergent would you recommend aside from tide as I'm allergic to tide and gain
I talked about all of the detergents I used in this video because I didnt want to use tide and gain either. Go to: 4:27 to see where I discussed the options and what I thought about each.
My biggest concern is diaper rash. How often do you change her once she’s peed? Also I love the little line that shows when the diaper is dirty on regular diapers. Is there a trick to knowing when it’s ready to be changed? Thanks a lot!
I loved that line to show when to change! LOL so helpful right?? I would change her every 2 hours unless there was poop or super full. I posted a one year update last week that might be helpful for you, because I learned a lotttttt since then. The only trick is just touching the insert inside the cloth cover. If it was dry, I would leave her in it unless it had been a while.
You should try KaWaii baby's bamboo inserts they are 100% bamboo no microfiber at all, they work amazing and are very good price! Pretty much all I use, w a few hemp inserts as well. You can get them on amazon or from them directly at theluvyourbaby.com. would night recommend their diapers as well. Good luck with your cloth journey.
She is beautiful and looks just like you
Awww haha thank you. I think she def has my smile (our oldest Mya smiles like my husband). But Mariah is like a spitting image of him. 😩😅
Hey mommy thanks for the video I don’t see the link for the spray thing , I could be crazy but I really need it please help 😂😭
It's linked on my amazon store. The one that I have is no longer sold.
With the cloth diapers being soiled let’s say a few times through the day or night during 12 hour periods , wouldn’t that cause a rash or something? How does that work? I have no kids but hoping to use them in the future for my kids lol and doing research now
There are extra layers when packing overnight. It depends on your child, also. Mariah maybe tinkled, at the time, throughout the night, but didn't have a full pee until around 5 am. If I changed her any earlier, on a normal night, the cloth diaper would be dry; but it depends on your child too.
I know this was a while ago but I have so many questions. Was she your first baby you used cloth diapers on? I’m having my first baby and I want to use cloth diapers. I’ve been researching this for a while, I have so many people in my ear about how hard it is and they NEVER even consider using them. Do you regret using them?
Hi! First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! She is my [now] middle child, but yes she was my first baby to cloth diaper. I heard how hard it would be too, so I actually filmed my First Day Cloth Diapering on my channel. I love it and have no regrets. I just gave birth a month ago, and I am cloth diapering my son now (I filmed him as well).
Aww..i love it..just beautiful..wish i was one of the winners tho
Thank you! I didn't know you had entered the giveaway. I chose the winners at random, as well.
I think I will invest in the bamboo diaper liners over the sprayer. I don’t want to be spending my days scraping or spraying poop off my diapers
The sprayer was MUCH FASTER than scooping. Omg I still can't believe I was a scraping poop off before we finally installed the sprayer.
Her waving at the camera 😅 she is growing up mad quick. Just yesterday, you were pregnant....like what?
I know!!!! I literally feel like I was in my 5-year-long pregnant just yesterday 😩😂
How many cloth diapers and inserts do you suggest starting off with?
Just to make sure that it'll work out for you, I would get a "starter" set (12 cloth diapers, 24 inserts). I discussed it in my first video here: czcams.com/video/yO35QZOqUpE/video.html.
Ok hi ignorant first time pregnant mom here! Question:
The set up you use for her night time diaper lasts 12 hours, which seems insane! What stops you from using it for 12 hours during the day too? Would that cause rashes? I hope this doesn’t make me sound lazy, just genuinely curious how this works!
Yes, it causes rashes and your baby will smell throughout the day.. I'm not a mommy by the way..
Hi! Congrats on your pregnancy! How far along are you? I didn't change her as much as night because she didn't have nearly as many accidents as she does during the day when she is awake. She mainly only tinkled randomly and then a big pee around 5 am. Also, the cloth diapers are cloth which don't allow her to sweat down there to create condensation like a disposable diaper would have if left on overnight. You don't sound lazy at all btw!
Wauuu!Super video)))You are so cool 👍 Can you send link where did you buy in amazon for toilet? It is really amazing))))Thank you ))))
It's linked in my amazon store in the description box with all of my cloth diapering supplies. But here you go: amzn.to/396TF10.
How many diapers do you use a day?
I am switching to cloth diapering but I have 2 babies in diapers so I'm figuring 50 diapers would be needed to where they each use 12 a day so 24 and then the next day while those are drying I can use the other 24 and just alternate them
Or is that ridiculous lol 😬
OOhh that's a great question (and sorry for the delay). I'm responding to people, but YT is showing me that I still have the same comments that still need responding. So, I'm also sorry if you got this comment already lol smh. BUTTTTT.....It depends on the day honestly. With teething, she goes through more poopy diapers (she's currently getting her 4th & 5th tooth) and she's peeing out of her overnight diapers more (which I haven't figured out a solution yet). But, on a "normal" day, I would say 6-8 diapers (with two inserts, aside from the night diaper).
And honestly, I doubt you can have too many diapers, especially for two babies (you go girl!). The younger your babies are, the more you'll use. I can't remember how often I changed Mariah when she was little with cloth diapers, but I know I was flyinggggg through disposables (hence the switch) lol. I would definitely suggest getting more than 24 though. Sometimes I forget that I haven't washed my diapers (I know, gross) or I will put them in for the first wash (to cleanse the poo) and forget to wash them again with detergent and end up running out of diapers.
Aww I just had my youngest this past May her name is Mariah as well
Thank you for the reply I had never considered teething which is totally true for my older kids when they were cutting teeth
Lyss Gems if you’re still wanting to try cloth I’d suggest flats or prefolds from greenmountaindiapers . Com
They’re very economical and the flats wash out really easy and dry fast. Prefolds are a bit thicker but that can work to your advantage if you get them sized as they grow. So just enough prefolds per size (some small, then when they grow get the next size so on and so forth. And you can use the smaller ones as doublers later when they’re bigger)
I haven’t had our third baby yet (28 weeks rn) but I’m trying out flats and prefolds with covers as a cheaper way to cloth diaper this time.
Congratulations on your baby! Hope you’re doing well 😊
I love your hair.
Oh geez, it was a mess this day and needed to be washed LOL, but thank you. Did you see you're one of the giveaway winners btw?
@@VictoriaVaden No I didnt know that. Did you make an announcement yet?
Yes, I posted a channel update in the community section two days ago. I need your email so TTDEeye can send you free contacts!
@@VictoriaVaden Its Faye_h@rocketmail.com
Have you considered using diaper liners, it makes cleaning poo easier.
Are those reliable? I'm concerned about blowouts. I'd love to cloth diaper but the toilet sprayer seems like a lot.
Also - how does your husband feel about cloth diapering?
Umm.....he doesn't really change her, and when he does, it's not always on the correct buttons. He had to clean a poopy diaper the other day and he was not a happy camper lol. So....I think he's glad we’re not purchasing diapers each month anymore, but I don't think he's keen on having them either because they seem ”complicated” or too much work.
My husband is the same way😆 Anytime he changes our son it’s disposable. I’m a stay at home mom so I mostly change him anyway but anytime I leave I know I gotta put him in a disposable. Doesn’t bother me, I love cloth diapering! I’ve only done it with my last child and plan on doing the same here in a few months with my new baby. I haven’t tried cloth overnight yet though because my son is a super heavy wetter! I love not having to worry about going to the store to get diapers or wipes especially now with this pandemic. I’m so glad cloth diapering has become modern and much easier to use!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🥰🥰😘
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is a really great and informative video. I just didn’t like all the edits as of there were skips that’s all.
I’m glad it was helpful! I’m not sure I understand the “skips” you’re talking about. Could you explain?
Thank you for mentioning our Diaper Balm, Mama! Our Diaper Balm is cloth-diaper safe, as well as free of zinc oxide & petroleum! 💙
It is amazing! I just purchased yet another bottle (probably my eighth one at this point) since I am currently pregnant with our third baby. Thanks for a great product!
@@VictoriaVaden Amazing! Congrats on your little one!
