The problem with lot of the self help books and videos also religion that forces ppl to look inside. Is that the the true hardcore narcs and envious ppl won't look at these videos or books or seek religions that force ppl to look in. For society to work properly we all have to look within and aim to improve.

Incredible and very timely chat as I’ve lost my
Drive and motivation and cannot work out why, this has helped me; identify why I’ve been miserable, frustrated, angry, envy etc as well as off track with my fitness (no real goal) it’s because I’ve stopped Meditating many months ago restarted my 5Am Club Jan 1st 2022 and lasted 200days. Before having to get extra work (to pay the bills) and got very tired- and couldn’t maintain/sustain my routine. This interview has helped me recognise that I’m missing my 20 mediation (in my 5am club). So that’s me back (testing my 5am C tomorrow morning) prior to Jan 1 2023!!! I’m back- thank you both!! Also the last Question eg final words has connected to the urgency and high motivation- so a great end of Year interview. Roberts book is now on my wish list and my first book Dr C (new
Book) has arrived for Xmas (half way through at the mo- fantastic) and thank you for the game and life changing podcasts and work it’s incredible 🙏 Si Surrey 🇬🇧

      @lauralou4852 Před rokem +3

Isn’t that funny? Every time I’m off track, I can trace it back to abandoning my core routines that got me to the better place in the first place. Somehow life pops up (whether it be more work, family emergency, kids needing more from us, etc etc) and I tell myself I can skip parts of the morning routine or I deserve to rest rather than driving to the gym. Then, not long after that, I have abandoned all my routines and gained 20lbs. 😩
Now that I wholeheartedly accept that I MUST protect my core routines like i would protect my kids from a threat, I still don’t have *desire* to put one foot in front of the other … to get back on the proverbial wagon after this last 18 months of crushing blows.
So your comment struck a cord with me 😅 I’m trying to adopt the belief that “I don’t need motivation or desire. I just need discipline.” But knowing that and DOING that are still different things. 😵‍💫
Just wanted to send my best wishes to you. 🎉❤

The comments about people being roaring lions from behind the curtain reminded me of the scene in wizard of oz, when the wizard gets found out. If social media had transparency like we have in the street then it would possibly help people be more graceful. I think the curtain plus the written word being powerful is an underestimated power a lot of us don't use carefully enough.

I did the whole street preaching thing and used to be a hardcore christian but I still felt empty Inside. So I searched for God in Islam and Mormonism and Santeria/voodoo and drug's and alcohol but I became more Lost and was on the streets once. It wasn't until I hit Rock bottom and gave up on Life, and told God that if this is what God's wants for and if God wants me to suffer, I told him 'okay' and I surrendered and then and only then is when God spoke to me and touch me and my Life changed instantly!! God is nothing like how the religions claim. God is Bigger than religion and bigger than The Bible and Bigger than The Quran.

I got into Soto Zen Buddhism in the early 1990s. I highly recommend reading Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind_ for anyone interested in starting a meditation practice.
The first chapter or so instructs the basic technique (posture, breathing, etc.). If, like me, you can't sit in the full lotus position with both legs crossed, don't let that stop you. For that matter, don't let any physical issues hold you back. If you're breathing, the practice is possible; if you're not, well . . .
Anyway, the book is a free PDF download or in print and on Audible.

the parts of the video as i saw them (if anyone needs a map to these 89 minutes)
    - narcissism and envy and other 'bad' qualities -> picking up cues from others and feeling them (nonverbal communication) -> how ? about his meditation practice
    - irrationality and emotions - (emotions aren't words), you can become addicted to emotions (even anxiety or depression)
    - perspective + law of shortsightedness
    - we're being affected by others
    - is he still fascinated by others? irrationality of people
    - tweet "everything that happens to you is a form of instruction to you, if you pay attention"
    - unhappy? make things hard for ourselves to change things and get the needed urgency

I’m not a traditional philosopher, but I enjoy listening and reading a variety of topics that allow insight into the human condition and consciousness. This specific podcast made me think of another book I’ve recently read called The Places That Scare You by Pema Chodron. The term for the practices of a level of stoicism and self awareness but which offers empathy and compassion is called “bodhichitta” in this book. This is a warrior practice in Buddhism. I hope this adds to the conversation here.

I totally agree but some of us are so self absorbed they don't have the time to be envious. I know I put myself where I am it's nobody's fault but mine.

This was an interesting conversation. Unusually I noticed I was a little annoyed with the flow of the interview, like Dr Chatterjee was often not responding to what Mr Greene had said but moving onto another point. This lead me to wonder what it was in my own life that it was triggering. Maybe an inability to fully listen and respond to people because I am distracted with my thoughts?
Thank you both for an interesting video.

I started my journey fueled with passion to achieve goals (career) that i desired in my life more than 1 year ago. Lately, the previous 2 weeks was the end of that journey as i was exposed to many things in life that are so contradicted with my belief and goals I'd set before. Now I accidentally find this podcast that seems to be a possibility to help me with my depression i'm having right now. Hope it can solve it.

I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. czcams.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!

I found out when I was a teenager that if I paid close enough attention to foreigners who were speaking to each other in their own language, I could decipher what they were talking about. I never studied other languages, so I found that fascinating. And it puzzled them, too, when I could help them out with directions to places they were trying to find. I did this often with the foreign exchange students who came to the US.

Robert’s point at the end where he says that when you’re young you should keep in mind that you don’t have time, and as a result you won’t get comfortable and complacent, is correct, and it’s something I follow. However, I have to point out that it does create anxiety within me, where if I feel I’m stagnating, I get obsessed with thinking of my next steps to move forward and then ultimately take action. I think Robert would agree with that if pointed out, as he said in the interview that he himself faces a lot of anxiety. This isn’t a criticism of his point, but I feel it’s an important byproduct of that mindset to point out

I can't imagine who these people think they are, deciding that any life is less worthy than others. There is no single formula for living. People are social animals except those who are not. People need a sense of purpose except those who don't. It's not helpful to listen to people when one isn't interested in the particular person. It may be more useful for some people to more honest and let others know they are not interested and would rather think about themselves at the moment. Humans are a complicated species with a range of experiences and drives. It only makes people feel sad and displaced to keep harping on about how to fit in. Not everyone needs to feel good or to change. For some people there's a huge benefit in honouring every feeling as it arises and sticking with it through a deep process. Proselytizing that something is wrong with someone can be demoralizing and lead to persistent anxiety. There is nothing wrong with anyone and reinforcing their sense that they are defective doesn't help. Fair enough to respond to people who ask for help. But, does it help to join them in feeling they are defective?
