That’s because the choices were yours. They weren’t forced on you. Everything was organic. The people who interacted with you weren’t pretending but being themselves. You cut off people you didn’t like and no one bat an eye.
You talked to people who you liked back and both of you reciprocated. You met people you liked and had genuine long lasting friendships, who were there for you, never too busy to see you and supported you.
People let you LIVE and flourish, while they lived and flourished themselves. You were surrounded by WHOLE and lovely people. Not broken, traumatised and flawed people, who never attain happiness, fail to find happiness, ruin every second of every day, know how to put you off in seconds and can’t see you happy or successful.
You were safe from traumatised, cynical, pessimistic and broken people. Surrounded by WHOLE and lovely people. Of course, that will make you happy.

Went to high school - NCSSM 1989-1991; was likely the dumbest kid in the whole school. It was very tough but I acceptable that I cannot compete in life in certain fields/areas. Since high school, failed many times, rejected many times. Allowed me to rethink what I can be good at and help me develop persistence and the habit of work hard. Now, I am part of a happy family and a "relatively" successful nephrologist.

CZcams recommended this video. I decided to watch it because the title captivated me. I guess we gravitate towards things that we resonate with. I've always felt like my life is a mess; it has no direction. So, yeah. Why not give the vid a shot? In the course of the video, there was a mention of "Nothing goes to waste" which has always been my motto in trying to justify all the seemingly useless stuff that I did in my life. I felt validated. But the truth is, it's only when I look back that then I could connect the dots. Truly nothing is wasted. I think as long as we are moving forward and just striving to do things that matter to us, there will be a reason for it in the future and only then will we realize that the thing we did was not a waste. But, of course, when we know for certain that what we're doing now is not useless, it does help ease the anxiety. But life is full of unknowns. I guess we just have to trust that what we're doing right now is what's meant to be.

I'm so amazed at how Robert is so humble and modest even with the amount of fame and popularity he received in the last 20 years, it's so rare these days. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to his life, I know I am relating to it (also had dozens of different jobs while knowing exactly the few things that I am passionate about...but didn't listen to that inner voice of becoming an entrepreneur with those skills and interests). Listening to how he explains things and how we must approach life destroys all the hundreds of "motivational gurus/salesmen" we see online.

I'm just like Robert Greene, a classic introvert who just can't stand political and social games, especially now that I'm almost 37 years old and have worked so many different jobs. Being an Entrepreneur, Business Owner, and Investor right now, I just can't stand the thought of going back to the same old games where I have to live up to other people's (often low / pathetic) expectations, rather than just living up to my own expectations.
Also, I could care less about what people think, and would rather not be bothered with that issue either because, at the end of the day, nobody gives a shit about you anyway unless you serve their self-interest. Now, I don't really mind working for and with other people but the position has to be at least as independent as possible.

It's funny Robert mentions at the very end that he wasn't being himself and that he needed to be himself, while in another interview with Patrick David about the "Laws of Human Nature", he stresses the importance of being a good actor and NOT being yourself.
But I guess in essence he just means that you just need to be true to yourself and who you are, and then be a good actor with other people around you who do not know or see your true self. Only you know who you are, not other people. You show them what they like to see.
