I think the Perfect Sketchbook is made with Fabriano Artistico paper, which is an excellent brand! Circle stencils are so useful, I've used mine a lot lately too. Wow thats a big pot of graphite powder - you can use it to lubricate stubborn locks, so that's another use for it, haha! I do love Mars lumograph pencils but yes they do shine a lot under studio lights. Pastels are horrid to touch, I hate the feeling of them. I had a feeling that jumbo gouache set would be a real hassle and be rather overwhelming. I would never use them before they dried out, lol. Great video!

Hmm that's interesting to know, I have never tried the Fabriano paper but it really reminds me of arches, the perfect paper did not warp at all and I did both paintings in there pretty much wet on wet. I'm impressed. Do you know what the paper in the big cold pressed one is? I would say it's slightly not as good, but only slightly. They don't say on their sites. Haha I'm going to go around sprinkling graphite powder on things now lol The 56 set gouache is not bad, I just think it's a lot of colors. They blend nicely but weirdly have a stronger smell then the 24 set, plus the smaller set comes with brushes and a pallet and is way cheaper. Thank for watching!
@@NaomiCoutureArt For the regular Sketchbooks, the paper is made in China I think, I don't know by who though. I like that paper too!

@@NaomiCoutureArt yes the perfect one is absolutely fabriano artistico in many books a page is sometimesaffectedby the watermark, and the everyday etchr sketchbooks is a Chinese made paper whose name is withheld.

Finally! Someone who doesn't like the Paul Rubbens oil pastels. They wouldn't layer for me either and I returned them. But you'd be hard pressed to find a CZcamsr who doesn't praise these. But in their demonstrations...They don't layer. LOL Your video was great and I appreciate your honesty.
Thank you so much! I will not promote something unless I actually like and use it! But I do love trying different products out so sometimes you get duds lol. I should have the mungio oil pastel review out in one of the next videos and I think you might like them more. I always try to share both pros and cons so people can make their own decisions ❤️
@@NaomiCoutureArt I love the mungyo oil pastels! I have a few Sennelier and a few Caran D'ache as well but I go for the mungyo every time. They work just as well as the others and cost so much less. I take them out to my pond and land along with a can of hair spray 😀. I'll be looking forward to your review on them. Enjoy your day!

Thank you. Your favourites were mine also & luckily I had been saved from buying the Paul Reubens by watching someone else's review. I don't like the feel.of chalk pastels either so my Faber Castel.pitt pastels I bought open stock at $4.50 each Australian I absolutely love. I would like to see a comparison with the stabilo. Yeah I should have watched a review before I got those oil pastels. It’s nice to know I’m not alone with the chalky feeling of soft pastels lol. I will definitely do a comparison between the two pastel pencils as I have had a lot of questions of what’s the difference 😄

My sister cannot touch washing up sponges, so I guess our choices come from our childhood or DNA somewhere along. Lol

Happy New Year! The video was interesting and very informative. Your illustrations are amazing, I love the cupcake and strawberry. I’m always interested in people’s favorite and regret art supplies, particularly the regrets 😁. I bought the small 12-count set of Pitt pastels and I wasn’t using the correct paper, but I was so shocked at how firm they are. I prefer using my soft pastels. I don’t mind picking them up with my fingers. Sometimes I rub my finger against the soft pastels and then rub the pigment on to the paper using my fingers. I first purchased soft pastels as a teenager (many decades ago), so that’s probably why I’m used to messy fingers. May be you could wear latex gloves when you use them?

I love touching pastels, even using fingers to blend, sculpt the painting/drawing. I only used soft and hard pastels, not oil ones.
I think I’m getting slightly better/more used to it but oddly enough I like to blend with my fingers too. I’m usually very hands on with my work as well so I’m not sure why they bother me so much! 😂 recently I’ve been doing a lot more watercolor artwork so I don’t have to worry about this ☺️
iv Always found that the product i [initially ] hate at first comes around to be a winner. iv a stash of kids cheapo paints and only a few expensive paints but return more often to the cheapo once iv given thought to how im going to get best use of them.Example Any kids paint that has an egg white base to it works great mixed with acrylics i find .your videos are very interesting !
Thank you, I love trying new things because you never know what your going to like. I'd like to branch out and try different paint brands this year. If cheaper paint, gets you to create something and have fun, then it's worth having! I'm glad your enjoying my videos :)
I happen to love graphic!!! You should try Steadler Mars Lumograph Black pencils. They dont have the shine. I buy them over and over.

I haven’t yet found an oil pastel i agree with. But I also have both the stabilos and Pitt pastels, they will make an appearance in my next video hehe! I’m thinking about getting some mist bottles like that. I’d like to try some wet on wet watercolor techniques with them! This is a very fun video idea😊
Have you tried the mungyo oil pastels? That will be my next video, I actually really liked them! Yes the spray bottles are useful for so many things. You know I like something when I have multiples of it lol.

I'll have to try those sketchbooks because I've struggled too. I only have 5 M Graham. Are there colors you recommend? I have the Pitt Pastels and need to use them more. My biggest issue is the sound on paper lol. I have the pink soap but when out I use The Honest Company baby soap. Works just as well and no chemicals or ickies left on the bristles. That's funny you don't like touching the pastels. My first pastels were chalk ones so I'm used to it. The Paul Ruben oil pastels are kind of off to me as well. With a blending stump they're slightly easier but still for the price I feel they're not as workable.
I would definitely recommend any of those sketchbooks. The perfect one (the darkest one) is the most expensive but has the best paper. However the large cold pressed one hands down better then any sketchbook paper I have tried and takes wet in wet well! For the M Gram colors I started with their starter set of 10 colors. It should be listed down in the description if you scroll down to watercolors. That will let you know what colors to pick up that you don’t already have. Those colors will give you pretty much any mix you need. However I can’t remember if their cobalt teal was in there (super bright pretty blue!) if not I consider that a must as well lol. Good to know about the honest company soap. Yeah Those Paul Ruben’s oil pastels. I don’t even want to search them all out fir a video lol
Put the palette on top of your gouache then put in a snap lock bag THEN snap the top lid on, they won’t dry out

The new faber castell matt graphite don't shine much for pencil work. Brush cleaner cleans up the metal holbien pallets as well as for cleaning and conditioning your brushes. Derwent pastel pencils are similar to the faber castel to use and a little cheaper. I love using them with the faber castel polychromos pastels...can get great results but you do need to get used to the feel of them its worth it. Think Degas when using them. Faber castel also make a really good watercolor pencil in their Albrech Durer line, I prefer them to the Caren Dache. If you like a watercolor paper that is less absorbent and dries quicker for layering Saunders Waterford makes a great choice. Also the Stillman and Burn Delta series in soft cover are fantastic. I enjoyed your honest thoughts on what you enjoyed and what you didn't . Thank you. Its always good to share our knowledge of products.
Thank you, I’ve seen the new Matt graphite out. I’m debating whether I want to try it. I’m loving charcoal right now though. I have never tried the derwent pastel pencils but I think I’d like to. I have heard such good things about them and it would be nice to compare them to my other two brands. I do have those watercolor pencils and love them! I also like the follow the same colors as the polychromos so you can get even more detail be using both or keep it loose. (My video last week was actually using them to create a flower and keep the watercolor feel to it). Thanks for watching and commenting 😄

Not sure if it will work, but have you tried using a pencil extender with the soft pastels? It works with crayons, so ideally it should work with pastels...
That's actually an interesting idea. I'll have to see if they fit. Someone else suggested wearing gloves which don't bother me so I may try both. Thank you :)
@@NaomiCoutureArt Rubber, vinyl, plastic gloves may get warm after a while in summer months. Maybe washable cotton gloves? Love the pencil extender tip! You might also check the contents of the pastels and see if you might be allergic to anything, particularly any coatings and anything waterproof or carcinogenic.

@@NaomiCoutureArt There are some things I can't stand to touch, either. Some are physical minor allergies to toxic ingredients or just textures, some are empathic energetic reactions. You never know until you investigate.

Yes it is! I still like my Daniel Smith watercolors and keep a few colors on my current palette. Honestly I like all the brands I have, but I do find I reach for my W&N ones more often.

Isn't that funny because those don't bother me to touch at all. I think it's more I don't like my fingers and hands getting dirty with pastels, but then I can touch clay or get paint on my and it doesn't bother me.

I liked most of the Paul Reubens oil pastels okay, but there are a couple in the 48-52? set that are absolutely horrifyingly bad, a leafy green and a purple. They are so dry you can't color with them, and even trying to flake them off with a palette knife doesn't work. I got them on a sale and so I'm not thaaat upset, but, given that they're some of my most-used colors, I might be a tiny bit peeved. I also bought the "Macaroon" set, which I think you have also, and it's fine, creaminess wise, just not sure I'm going to use them all before they dry out. Still fun. You're right, smooth paper is silly for pastel-work and whoever designed that kit was crazy. I do wish I'd bought the Mungyo instead. For whatever reason, You Tubers way overrate the Paul Reubens products. I don't know why. I'll likely steer clear in the future unless they're offered at an extraordinary deal. I agree about the gouache and would go so far as to say that I like my 18 set even better than a 24. Gouache mixes so easily that I think you only need the basic colors. It's nice having some of the others, but still. I'd love to see the Pitt pencils in action.
Yeah I really was not impressed with the paul rubens oil pastels, but I think I'm still going to finish my review eventually because I think it's important for people to see both the good and the bad products out there. That makes sense with the colors because I usually grab purples and greens a lot too lol. Yes I have the macaroon set too, however I don't know that I would use those colors a lot. I should have the mungyo review out Wens or Thurs this week. I got the big 56 miya gouache set on sale, but I agree it's way to much. I like the 24 set because it comes with brushes and a pallet as well. I also filmed the review video between the pitt pastel pencils and cabothello pastel pencils, that should be out probably next week :)
@@NaomiCoutureArt What truly swung me to my 18-set is I got it for $9 on a super sale! So of course, I bought TWO. One was supposedly for a child gift, but I found other things instead for them. Now I have a back-up of a fun art supply. My favorite thing about these gouaches is that some of them fluoresce under black light (the purple flashlights you can buy on Amazon), so I have fun making things to take advantage of that.

@@NaomiCoutureArt I was inspired by Kimberly Crick's video where she shows that Daniel Smith's Manganese Blue Hue has a fluorescing binder. I had to buy the flashlight to try that. Then I thought, hey I should see if any of my other paints fluoresce. Sure enough, some of the jelly cup gouaches do, mostly the fluorescent ones, but you get a hint of what they're mixing to make some of the colors by which ones fluoresce, because their violet also fluoresces. Here's a link to Kimberly Crick's video with the location where she shows off the fluorescing paint.
