    I always say "If it gets the job done, I'll use it"
    I get confused at people spending a lot of money in expensive supplies when they can use cheaper ones and get very similar results (sure, it's their money and that's none of my business, but still-)

    • @VariedWings
      @VariedWings Před 3 lety +18

      Use everything you have as long as it motivates you to make art. I think this is the most important thing. I hope I dont get to preachy but from my point of view I also tend to use the more expensive supplies. Of course they do the same thing as super cheap alternatives but in my opinion they perform a lot easier and you dont need to fight against your art supplies most of the time. The professional supplies lay down colour faster, they are more vibrant and opaque and especially they are lightfast (at least they should be for the price) If you plan to sell your art, you should make sure it will last some time for the customer. Imagine buying 200$ artwork and the colours fade after only 6 month. This is actually the biggest thing about the expensive stuff.

    • @Lilstarnerd
      @Lilstarnerd  Před 3 lety +12

  • @kierusekai
    @kierusekai Před 3 lety +10

    Howdy! Just your friendly art supply nerd popping in to add some comments!
    1. What you have there aren't actually tortillons. You've got paper stumps, or blending stumps. Blending stumps are made of compressed paper and are solid all the way through. Tortillons are wrapped strips of paper, and therefore they are hollow and very lightweight! But both are paper-based and are used for blending.
    2. Idk if you've tried them, but I usually recommend Blick Studio Brush Markers as an alternative to Copic Sketch Markers. They're definitely not the cheapest option, but you can buy them individually (which isn't possible with most of the cheapest brands of alcohol markers) and you can refill them and switch out the nibs for new ones if you destroy the ones you've got. Blick Studio Brush Markers are usually a little under $4 a piece, and a 96-set is still going to cost maybe $250, but that's still significantly cheaper than Copic, and they should be fairly easy to get in the US, either in Blick stores or through their website. There are also a couple of sets of "Blick Illustrator Markers," and those might be a good way to get started with alcohol markers too! They're cheaper and smaller, and aren't sold individually, but they do come in the same colors offered in Blick Studio Brush Markers, so you can kinda replace them if you run out of one.
    Anyhow, that's far too long of a comment... sorry to be so wordy U__U;
    I'm a big fan of yours, Al! Keep doin' what you do!
