  • In this video I go through the process of building a new dining table for our house. I chose to go for a trestle style table with a modern look to it. Throughout the build I cover the process and expand on some thoughts about the design as well as share some tips and tricks. I finally have some success using my planes and move more towards hand tool woodworking. I also got a bit lazy towards the end and used my CNC to do the dovetails.

    Watching the C&C and later seeing the cut it made is mesmerizing for me.

      I will try and include more of that in future videos.

      @@hillbillychic3933 Funny, along those lines when some videos are sped up and a person is working around a table saw I automatically get nervous. Instinct.

    Nice job!!! Pecan is a beautiful wood and I’m anxious to use that species in one of my own builds sometime.

      Thanks!! Probably my favorite looking wood but it's my least favorite to work with.

    Great looking project!! I think you made the right call by not going black with the legs.

    Beautiful table, well done! Loved that the goats were involed in the building process!

      Thank you so much.. I enjoy having the goats around although sometimes they get into a bit of trouble.

    You are a true craftsman sir. I have the same sawmill but cut for other people to make cool stuff. You have a great talent and the tools to go with it 👍

      Thank you very much! So much to learn about the whole process still. From choosing the right logs right through to the something I build with it.

      Very happy with the results but it might be bad luck since I lost at cards the first time playing on it.

    Well Done. Probably the best editing and most informative video you've created. There were several tips I got from there. And how have I never created a glue box upside down holder thingy. Making a few this weekend now.
    I was yelling at the screen when you mentioned needing a longer board for the router. Great you put that all in there so we see the whole thought process.

    What do you mean “mica powder because liquid stains the wood more”? Does mica make it more/less liquid? Do we want the wood to be “stained”?

    • @hillbillychic3933
      @hillbillychic3933  Před rokem

      We do not want the wood to be stained, just the epoxy dyed to the color we want. I think the dye will come out of the epoxy and stain the wood. You can either use the mica powder to eliminate that or pre seal the wood before using the epoxy with more epoxy or people also use shellac.

    How far did you put your table Legs in on each end.

    • @hillbillychic3933
      @hillbillychic3933  Před měsícem

      About 11" which has worked out pretty well if someone is sitting at the end of the table.

    What cnc do you have, have all the tools you have , a new Virginia Tech kiln, a sawmill, but no cnc

    • @hillbillychic3933
      @hillbillychic3933  Před rokem

      I have a powermatic 2' X 4' CNC. I certainly don't keep it busy enough but it's handy to have. It was the only one that I could ensure was delivered while I was home from from my job on ships at the time. I have no issues with it but might go for something different like an AVID if I was to do it again.
