Do not buy a Mazda/ Ford Courier PE turbo diesel Ute

  • My Mazda/ Ford Courier PE 4wd turbo diesel Ute is the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned.
    I've had plenty of cheap cars that haven't been as unreliable as this vehicle. Even old three hundred dollar cars have been more reliable than this shit box.
    Unfortunately being on Newstart I can't afford to update and now I've had a Ute I can't live without it, especially being a tipper.
    It has needed a new starter motor. Airconditioning pump bearing needs replacing. Radiator and radio have been replaced. The inlet manifold warped and required machining. The thermostat and intercooler replaced. Multiple sets of glow plugs. The vent control unit broke. Top wishbone bushes and it has been sitting in my friends front yard since September 2018 with a broken gearbox.
    So I don't recommend this vehicle to anyone. If you are considering buying one, don't!

    I have to disagree. My 02' hasn't had any major issues so far. I've put 100thou very hard km on her and she's sitting at 300km now. Was used as a 4wd extensively on serious tracks almost on a nightly basis. Daily driven and take it to car meets giving it a gut full keeping up with performance cars (or at least trying haha). Even done some touring with her.
    Had a recon gearbox because the first couple owners flogged it. One of my mates snapped rear axel which sent shards into the diff killing it aswell. no issues there as it's not a sports car and dropping clutch on dirt to tar snapped it which is expected of most vehicles.
    Other then that a single cv and nothing else has gone wrong at all.
    She's now pushjng lots of power on a big turbo and still reliable as ever. Getting her best fuel economy aswell at 9l to 100.
    It's sad to see you had bad luck with your ute, but they are in my opinion very reliable and capable.
    No one I knew thought it'd last this long and still be reliable with the things she does.
    I plan to completely strip it and make everything factory condition or upgrade it.

      @NewstartGarageOZ  Před 4 lety

      Like I've already stated this is my experience with my vehicle and your experience is different.
      Good luck to you, mine's a piece of shit and from what I've read in the forum's I'm not the only one to experience these problems.
      My diff hasn't shit itself yet
      I also have an AU Falcon and every time my Courier shits itself the Falcon is ready to go.
      I purchased my one at 101k and I did 134k before the gearbox shit itself.
      All stuff I've already stated.
      At least you were rational in your comment not like some of the arseholes that have commented and you're allowed to have your opinion but it's not going to change my mind about my shitbox Courier

    • @NewstartGarageOZ
      @NewstartGarageOZ  Před 4 lety

      Just out of interest what do you consider a "major" issue if replacing the gearbox and snapping an axle which lead to the diff needing replacing aren't

    • @NewstartGarageOZ
      @NewstartGarageOZ  Před 4 lety

      My Courier has had to endure some very testing situations.
      I was a Sexton and I reckon I've had about five tonne of sand on the back.
      I only drove a couple of hundred metres in the Cemetery in first gear with that load on and that was a regular occurrence.
      I've also very frequently driven from home to Adelaide (550k) with just under a tonne of scrap metal at 100/110 kph.
      I've also occasionally gotten bogged and not wanting to walk kilometres for a tow just thrashed the fuck out of it going backwards and forwards until I got out

    • @NewstartGarageOZ
      @NewstartGarageOZ  Před 4 lety

      BTW you could always make a video of how great your one is

    • @sirius9516
      @sirius9516 Před 4 lety +1

      @@NewstartGarageOZ I do intend to make a video about it one day and I understand some people can have a bad run with any vehicle.
      I don't consider the gearbox and diff to be major since it was thrashed most of its life and it was to be expected. If it was something out of the blue or been babied it's entire life I'd be very skeptical of the quality. I'm certain if it wasn't flogged so much it wouldn't have needed it. Also the diff went from me being stupid, when my mate snapped the axel I drove in 4wd on tar at 100km hr for nearly 100km. It send shards from axel into diff which killed it. Completely understandable for both in my opinion.
      Besides even if my engine did give out it wouldn't change my experience with them as I would've expected it to go tired a long time ago and it'd give me a a chance to upgrade parts for an even better experience later on. It's far beyond the expectations I had for it.
      There are few major flaws with the vehicles which didn't get fleshed out until the next gen bt50 and ranger (that's why the gearbox upgrade from them is so good, 5th is properly lubed and they're beefed up while still being a very similar design).
      But even with the gearbox issues Ive towed boats and even cars in 5th.
      If you want a similar but better vehicle it's smarter to go to their next gen when they're fleshed out but I'm just a fan of the old school tech and I'd prefer work around the issues and improve the vehicle to meet my needs. Not much of a fan of the next gen or even the new dual cabs these days.
      Besides even if a part broke a lot of the time it's half or even a quarter of the cost of a patrol or cruiser counterpart.
      I hope that if you have another run with them that you have better luck. Cheers for being level headed, a lot of people would get annoyed hear a vehicle they like be dissed and talk shit. I just like defending a ute that had treated me well. I might just be a minority though who knows.

    Wow! This blew up, and folks REALLY took offense. I mean, why assume you just can't drive a stick & you treat the vehicle like crap when it's altogether possible the darned thing is just a lemon. I had to recently talk my daughter into trading in her beloved VW New Beetle because it was a money pit.

      I Googled about this vehicle after I got it and most of them have these issues.
      I'm fixing it.
      Just lots of roadblocks during the years.
      I do work on it every time I'm in Adelaide

      Jeremy Clarkson can drive a vehicle for half an hour and tell people not to buy it and they get on their knees and praise him.
      I owned it for eight years but apparently I know nothing.

      Taugh me one thing though.
      Keep your opinions to yourself because people are only interested in hating you for them

      @@NewstartGarageOZ You must have been floored by how many views it got when it happened though. Damn.
      If I could have, I would have kept my '77 VW pop-top forever. I LOVED that car. I did a lot of work on it in the years that I owned it.
      My little Kia Rondo that I bought when I moved to New Hampshire turned out to be a real beast. I just thought it was affordable, and I liked that it had 3 rows of seating, with the back two folding flat in 4 sections. Very versatile. But then I kept it on the road with minimal investment for 14 years... I'd still have it if my friend's son hadn't caused so much body damage in that accident a few months back. It was still running just fine, but the body damage was enough for my insurance company to declare it a total loss.

      @@NewstartGarageOZ I bought my mum's 2014 Nissan Versa Note and it feels like I'm driving a roller skate. 😂

      I have had cars that cost three hundred dollars that have been more reliable than this shitbox.
      So that analogy doesn't actually work all the time

      I'll be fixing mine as soon as I can but if I could afford to I'd replace it
