    I had a Code 4 I did not like that smooth finish on the handle, it felt like it would slide or move in my hand, my fav cold steels are the AD-10 and the Recon 1 Tanto, and really hard use would be the SR-1 lite, now thats a beast!

    Nice comparison! As a big Cold Steel fan as well, I think my favorite heavy duty EDC would be the AD15-LITE. It's a very beefy, robust knife, especially with that Scorpion lock. That said, for light work, the Crawford Model 1 works, as does the Grik with the Tri-Ad lock. All were very sharp out-of-box, though the Grik a bit less so, but still quite usable. Cold Steel rocks!

  • @holdernewtshesrearin5471

    Love my UH in CTS-XHP! Love my recon-1 too. Pretty sure I'd love the code-4 as well I just haven't purchased one yet.
    I think my all time favorite Cold Steel would be my rajah-3. I absolutely love it! Mine has the lightest, smoothest and most precise feeling action of all my Cold Steels and is so light and smooth that it runs with many of my very slickest, ball bearing pivots. Easily deployed with a reverse finger Spydy flick even and easily closed 1 handed with the lightest wrist flick. Those aluminum liners provide the rigidity and perfect parallel alignment to allow a really great action.
    The handle is a little cramped for me but it's super ergonomic and comfy and that awesome kukri style blade is super versatile and excells at typical camp knife and bushcrafting tasks. It's born for light chopping and snap cuts.
    Just a great knife all around. If you don't have a rajah-3 I HIGHLY recommend you check one out!

    Buddy of mine had a large cold steel with a clip point and I dressed out a 160lb wild hog with it and it performed exceptionally well. I cleaned the the entire hog with that knife before it started to become dull. That’s common with a deer, but a hog will usually dull two or three blades before you get two thirds the way through. And I actually really liked the clip point it seemed to get around the back of the bone between the tenderloins a lot easier than most knives that I’ve used in the past. A real beast of of knife!

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  Před 3 lety +3

      Definitely, a clip point is fantastic for skinning or dressing game, and for that its what i prefer, for edc i still like them i just prefer one thats tip is a certain way kinda like the way the code 4 is in this list, however i do prefer the drop point version of the code 4 but this one has my favorite clip point for edc

    I've owned a lot of Cold Steel knives fixed blade & folders. Recon 1 was edc for ten years, still have 3, one in each blade shape. Need to check out that UH. Glad you touched on this brand even though their marketing can be off-putting.

  • @danielsmit3524

    I must say the Cold Steel Code 4 is awesome. I recently got the American Lawman and really like it. Also have the AD10, Recon and Voyager, but I find the smaller ones like the code 4 and American Lawman carries better, which is a big factor to me. I think if they made the scales on the code 4 thicker by a very small margin and gave the alluminium some texture in strategic places, it would be my ultimate knife. Overall I actually prefer a back lock for a user knife. Obviously better options to play with than back locks. The AD10 to me has the best action on a cold steel tri-add lock.

    • @NeevesKnives

      What do you think about the ad15?

    • @danielsmit3524
      @danielsmit3524 Před 3 lety

      @@NeevesKnives Mixed feelings. Definitely the best quality CS I own. Great ergonomics for my hands. Very sharp considering it is designed towards hard use. Great smooth action to the point I forget it is a lock back. BUT, it hangs awkwardly in my pocket when I carry it, which means I tend to favour my Code 4 or American Lawman for EDC. It is still a must have in my collection though. Much better than the Recon 1. Your hands seem very large, so you probably love the AD10 for its ergonomics.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  Před 3 lety

      @@danielsmit3524 the ad10 ergos are beyond good, and its definitely a winner in many hard use cases from cold steel, but i agree for edc the code4 is my favorite

    • @danielsmit3524
      @danielsmit3524 Před 3 lety

      @@NeevesKnives I totally misread your reply abou AD15.. Haven't handled one. I see there is a light version out now. But for some reason the scorpion lock does not appeal to me esthetically. Maby I should give it a go and get the light, but if I want a fidgety knife, I like Kizer's blade smitj series lile the titanium Intrepid. Around the same price as the AD15 here in South Africa and WHAT A KNIFE. Hard to believe the price on some Kizer knives.

    • @legendaryschander78
      @legendaryschander78 Před rokem

      Ha, I cant say anything about action....by law if I wanna carry my code 4 I ONLY have TWO options....removing the Lock entirely, forcing the knife to be ruined OR removing the thumb stud and turning the pivot-screw into a bombproof tight piece of crap.
      But I love my Code 4 and will soon customize it with some crazy new scales (Amazon got everything even Handle material)
      I could have used Guntape but ehhhhhhh I fear it might just come off at some point.

  • @bani_niba
    @bani_niba Před 3 lety +6

    The Ultimate Hunter is very under-rated. While not as sexy/sleek/tactical looking as the others, the ergos are some of the best. The only real downside is the weight.

    I can cut wire, cable and so many work related materials without any edge damage. I also have the Recon 1, but of the two, I prefer my Ultimate Hunter. Thanks for the videos my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

    For general EDC, the Code 4 gets the nod For going into the woods, or just any prolonged cutting tasks, the UH is hard to beat. As you said, it is so comfortable in hand. I had the AD10, and as great as it is, I prefer the Ultimate Hunter over it. The AD10 is about as sturdy a knife as it gets, but the UH is no slouch, and it is a much easier carry in the pocket.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  Před 3 lety +1

      Ooo great question both great knives, if your wanting to edc it then the ultimate hunter if you wanting a serious hard use knife which both are the ad10, the ad10 is a big knife its thick and is a serious knife to carry around. Great knife but a little much for edc but great for hard use

    • @timbo4374
      @timbo4374 Před 3 lety +2

      As somebody who has had both, the AD10 is a beast, but the Ulimate Hunter is a very sturdy knife as well, and it is a much easier carry. If I could only have one, out of the 2 I would go with the Ultimate Hunter. Not knocking the AD10 by any means though. I donated mine to a worthy cause, and I may buy another at some point, but it's a pocket hog, and it seems thicker bte than the Ultimate Hunter too.
      If it was an end of the world apocalypse need a knife I can pry with, beat on, dig holes type knife, the AD10, a knife that serves you well both in the woods, working in the yard, or edc, the Ultimate Hunter. Hope that helps.

    • @SeemsLogical
      @SeemsLogical Před 3 lety +2

      I'm biased against Cold Steel, but I think the Ultimate Hunter captures the essence of what Cold Steel is about. For starters, the Ultimate hunter has the triad lock and it's an "in-house" design. It's EDC sized so you're more likely to carry it for common tasks.
      The AD10 is the model I personally like more. The AD10 is a collaboration project with Andrew Demco and I just like the look of it better. It's thicker and bigger than the Ultimate Hunter but when you get a blade that big and heavy I would argue a fixed blade would be more appropriate.
      I think the Ultimate Hunter is more in line with what you're looking for.

      Thankyou all. Here edc is ilegal as far as knives are concerned though i always carry at minimum a SAK huntsman and another discrete something somewhere. Lol. i LIKE ALL OF THOSE KNIFES, HOWEVER, SOMETHING THEY ARE ALL lacking that is found in the Air Lite, the top blade finger knurling /tread which is OUTSTANDING:) Yes, the thumb nut is closer than all these shown, but how incredible the overall feel, balance, blade top treading and lets NOT forget the weight of 3 oz and flat/thin design, you will not realize you have the knife with you at all! A knife you dont want to cary for weight is a knife thats a paper weight at home!
    Now if CS just added the finger grips on the lawman or recon one to the air lite, they would take FIRST place in sales nealy against ALL other brands in that category..............!

      @@NeevesKnives you have both knives in front of you...... Try it. You're right a frame lock Code 4 would be popular. Me, I do Cold Steel for beef. SR-1 in a tanto point, triad lock up kind of tank knife. I just want a sweet full size slicer I go to the Kizer Genie.

    “I’m not the biggest fan, I do like [lock backs, clip points, etc.], but I’m not the biggest fan”. Geez man, either you like something or you do not, end of story. I was worn out in the first 4 minutes. Rate the knives 1-4, give a few sentences explaining your rating and hit the stop recording button.
    Lock back is a great locking system, especially the Tri-ad version. One hand opening is nice, but not essential; one hand closing is a who cares; my Victorinox Camper SAK can be opened and closed with one hand as can my Buck 110.

      You can enjoy something yet pay your money towards something else you like more, something that fits you better for your use, but still like what you didn't buy, when I say I'm not the biggest fan it's because out of 150 or so knives none are cold steel, eventually yeah IL probably get one, I review them and enjoy them but have yet to purchase any with my own cash

      @@NeevesKnives I have no idea what your reply had to do with my comment. Either you like something, appreciate it or you do not. Black & white, no gray area. “I’m not the biggest fan, but I do like” is fence sitting. Jump into one pasture or the other. You like it, want it, and will purchase it; or, you will not. End-of-story.

    Would like to see Cold Steel get away from the Lynn Thompson pocket sword legacy and start designer for the wider market. They can certainly keep a line or two of big knives for the niche market, but they are leaving a lot of money on the table by not branching out.

    If I had to choose a knife company to snap out of existence... my snap would be used for Cold Steel. Not a fan of their tacticool, overbuilt design philosophy. I live in New York and I try to own knives that try not to look like a weapon and Cold Steel isn't subtle enough for my liking.
    Bias aside, I do recommend their knives to people who want a big beater knife that won't break on them. For folders, nobody builds a tougher knife. It's just that fixed blades exist... and nothing is tougher than a fixed blade.
    Good knives, I enjoyed your input on the 4 models but I remain unconverted, haha.

      Yeah i totally get it, and with all the great knives out there especially made for edc that are built so good a backlock its my first choice either

    Do not understand the comparisons. Both Recon 1 and Code 4 come in Tanto, Spear, and Clip points, yet Recon 1 is dismissed because it is a clip point. No mention of two other models. This one?
