1.7 million dollars later... The results look amazing
Cool production! Thanks for putting it together and posting.
Congratulations - almost finished. Enjoying this series very much - I think you are the only person on CZcams showing how to do this and for you also to be putting that amount of effort into filming the endeavour too is a real bonus. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. More to come, and feel free to ask questions. I'll have a few more in the next few weeks.
@@eddieco Cheers, Eddie. Stay safe.
Thank you for finally putting out some media on monolithic dome residences. This is what we want to build as well.
thanks for watching. This house is a Formworks Building house, you can find them on Facebook. Tell them Eddie Sent you!
Great build! Been interesting to see such a different build to regular houses and the challenges that come along with it.
thanks for watching!
Stunning property
Very nice project. It's exciting to see a unique build like this one.
Thank you very much!
This was amazing! This should be the future of home building!
Thank you for watching. It should be.... I'm skeptical it will be...
wow! very beautiful.
😊thank u for the video beautiful dome 💖 home 🏡
You are a hero and inspiration. 🙋
I don't see myself as either, but I appreciate the kind words. So thank you.
Wow. This is awesome!
Thank you. Glad you like it.
Wow, so cool!!
10:25 that is really amazing that you have all the weight of that construction equipment on top of the roof ! 👈😯
I'm impressed ! 🚨👇🥰
I'm sure this is cool house in the summer.great design.
It is. The energy efficiency is one of the main reasons for this type of construction.
Eddie, cool time lapse video of your dome home build...Dave
Good spot for a garden up top.
that's the plan
I knew it was in Topanga I drive by almost every day, I would like to stop one day to see the finish product, such a cool project congratulations!!
I no longer own it. Dealing with the nightmare that is LA County building departments nearly killed me financially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically in the process, so I sold it.
@@eddieco, LA is something else, they make it almost imposible for everything with so many regulations on everything. I’m glad you were able to sell it but a shame because is one of a kind, I can imagine the view from there!
@@Alesandro113 LA County is a criminal enterprise. They intentionally rip the public off, don't care, don't know their own codes, and lie about literally everything.
Not a US resident but if I hazard a guess you moved to Texas , am I right ?
The music is spectacular
thank you. I'm glad you like it.
Excellent
That is amazing, thank you for sharing. More please
thank you Eddie
Congrats guys 👏👏👏, great job. It must been nightmare to do it....
Thank you. Nightmare doesn't begin to describe it. Dealing with LA County Building officials and the rampant incompetence and corruption was one of the worst experiences of my life.
@@eddieco i believe that, local authorities are the same everywhere...
@@pavolszabo9454 Some are better than others. But LA County is exceptionally corrupt.
Molto bene grazie frufru.
Hey good job!
thank you!
If I did enough of these, I would invest in Rhino-Liner equipment to spray the dome.
Dang, that looks amazing inside and out. I'm totally blown away by the strength of the structure. Really awesome idea.
I'm curious if you had to use any special slump or added chemicals to the concrete to give it that strength? I was thinking of a similar idea for my farm.
Nope. Just regular 4000 PSI Shotcrete.
Вы сделали на ферме постройку?
How much did it cost to build?
I was really hoping to see some type of loft design on the inside
How many square feet of floor does this home have? Thanks
the music is so appropriate
Great job I might have to get you to build my dome. Was wondering how you cover up the insulation on the inside of the dome? Final finish?
You don't cover it, you remove it, then plaster the concrete wall.
Wholly drywall screws!
COOL
@eddieco, this looks so amazing. I love the efficiency of these domes but it seems so dang expense. How does an average Joe afford to have one of these built?!?! 😢
Don't build in a place like Los Angeles, or CA for that matter, and DIY as much of it as you can.
looks great, is that Ferrocement ( watertight ) or just ferro concrete...I am a retired Ferro boat man..amazing stuff when a pozzolana is added..my guess is ferro concrete because if you used Ferrocement , no need to cover it, as it is water proofed..
Just shotcrete. Regular old 4000 psi shotcrete.
@@eddieco have a go with my recipe for Ferrocement >> 2 - 1 but replace 15% of fine sand with a pozzolan like DE or Fly ash, pushed into an armature ,when dry this material is watertight and does not need sealing..it in fact breathes. without the pozzolan added you have ferro concrete..my boss would clip my ear if I said concrete if talking about Ferrocement haha old school. that is a cool build, our place is straw bale with an earth roof..love it..
Qual a largura e cumprimento?
Quantos metros do piso ao teto?
We are in the process of building one of these as well in VT.
congrats! I wish you well in your build.
the thunder dome
OMG, that's a drywallers nightmare 😂
Correction. That's a crappy drywallers nightmare. My new drywall guy had no problems with any of it.
It gets plastered. The inside walls are plumb and square and no insulation required.
What is the white material you put over the black rubber, between it and the dirt? Did you not use any kind of water proof paint or water sealer on the concrete? Masonry water block, anything like that? Seems that would make sense.
If you watch the other videos, your questions will likely be answered. The white material is a drain mat.
That was such a beautiful concrete dome. It's a shame it got covered up on both sides.
You can still see the beauty from the inside!
Covering it is what makes it efficient but I know what you mean.
Музика је ко у Пинг Понг Анимација 😍😍😍😍!
We're looking to build one in northern California. Was it difficult to get planning to approve 🤔?
Every municipality is different. In CA, you WILL have to install a solar system, and you will have to install sprinklers, as both are now mandated by the state. More mandates I'm sure will be forthcoming.
Personally, with the way CA is going, I wouldn't build in this state.
LA County was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. Of biblical proportions. I've got a book of the various battles and stories about what I went through dealing with the rampant corruption, incompetence, and apathy within LA County's building departments.
That being said, your area could be much easier, or worse. Formworks tells me they've never had issues like they had in LA County, so I suspect it's one of the absolute worst.
My advice? Go to the building department where you are, see how receptive they are to the concept. Also, ask others who've built under the same jurisdiction, and see what their experiences are.
Lastly, no matter what, RECORD EVERYTHING. Take copious notes, do as much as you can where there is a paper trail, (ie, via email) as opposed to getting everything verbally. If you get everything verbally, there's no proof of what was said nor agreed upon. If you have to do face to face meetings, follow up with an email confirming everything that was discussed, and ask them to confirm your understanding is correct.
Best of luck in your build!
What are they tacking down that membrane with ? It looks like nails before they tape over it.
concrete nails.
had this geodesic dome structure be designed for tension and copression by some strutural engineer the steel could be saved many times than used?
This house was designed by a structural engineer. I'm not sure I understand your question.
been passively lurking here on and off. just mainly confused why you didn't use the airform. thought it might have been due to not using spray insulation, but you did anyway. Like your waterproofing methods aw well!
airform is a different system entirely.
@@eddieco it is, but from what I also understand it is faster and possibly cheaper than the method you employed. so I am curious why this method was not utilized. Are there certain factors to your methodology that outweigh the airform method?
@@salkjshaweoiuenvohvr I'm not sure it's as structurally strong as the type we built, you're far more limited on the shape of the structure as you have to build it according to the airform shape are two reasons.
Formworks Building came up with their design back in the 1970's, and it's more versatile, you don't have to rent an airform, and it gives you more options. The airforms I've seen are all complete domes.
My house is a half dome, and 14' of an arched section at the front.
how thick is the dome and and your total yardage for all shotcrete?
4.5" thic at the top, at the base it widens out to the width of the footer. Total yardage on the dome is 85 yards.
Hello Eddie, very nice project. How high is the top of the dome? How wide is it?
This utilizes a 50' wide dome so it's 25' high at the center. And yes, I do consultations to answer your previous question.
@@eddieco thank you for answering my question. I’m surprised CZcams does not have some notification when a question or message is responded to. So I just checked back watching your videos again for answers. How would I go about consulting you outside CZcams?
I don’t know if I have many questions because you’ve done such a good job with all your videos. I’ve seen shotcrete go up against metal lathe screen. To me using metal screen and finishing / smoothing the shotcrete inside and out would be less work than all the Styrofoam installation and removal plus the repairs they had to do after. If you had to do it over again, would you do it different? Thank you.
@@jasonwarren4933 I've built two of these homes, one in 2000-2005. Both used the styrofoam. Metal grid/screening might work, but would be a PITA to cut and form each piece like we had to do with the foam.
@@jasonwarren4933 You can direct email me your contact info at the email address listed on my page.
Do thei build this hoses in usa and how much cost
Formworks Building out of Durango Colorado designs these homes and sells the dome kits.
Look them up on FB, and tell them Eddie sent you!
Cara apelo vindo de voce ,não e confiavel?
Is this the one in topanga
It is, and it is for sale now.
Is this angeles crest?
no, it's in Topanga.
It should be easy to heat & or cool.
it is!
You can see the original dome and equipment on my channel, friends.
This is the most durable built which is typhoon and earthquake resistant and other natural disasters. I saw this on some animated presentation. Good to know this is the real thing 😂😂
It is real! Formworks Building is the company that makes and sells the dome kits. You can ind them on Facebook.
What is your company name?
I don't have a company name. This house, was intended to be my residence. FORMWORs Building on FB is the company that designs the domes and sells the its.

hicieron un domo para luego hacer habitaciones cuadradas jajajja
Las habitaciones redondas serían difíciles de construir. LOL
I'm ready to build. Looking for a builder interested in building domes homes. Anyone interested in helping build in Northern AZ. ? Thank you for the video. Very cool.
Contact Formworks Building in Durango Colorado. They've done many of these across the US, and in Arizona. Best of luck with your build.
a team of 10+ guys working for weeks on end.... how in the hell is this affordable??
Clearly you've never built ANY house before. And it wasn't a team of 10+ guys at any time. Try on average 3 to 5.
Haha. Yeah you know how stick frame houses only take 1 man 10 hours or so to build, unless it's over 3,000 sf, then it might take the whole day but its worth it, besides the money saved only paying 1 man for 10 hrs you can move right in the very next day 😅
Too small
So much wrong with this house, that had costs almost nothing, when fixed in the project phase. Now it is a cave, that drains cellphone batteries, with a shitty front yard. I would not get payed, to live there🤮
Is keeping the construction site free of litter, no thing, where you are?
hahahahhahahahhahah. Los Angeles county codes, which exist nowhere else, increase the cost of a home by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
As for your "cell phone" comment... clearly you don't know WTH you are talking about. My cell phone worked just fine throughout the house.
"Shitty front yard"... again, your comment is amusing, considering there ISN'T a front yard. The site was small, and honestly, no other structure would have worked on this site.
Litter? We cleaned up daily. Yes, litter was generated while we worked, and we grabbed it all up every day.
Keep your uninformed ignorant comments to yourself, troll....
A Very ugly design
Thank you for your unsolicited opinion.
not friendly to the local natural environment, and kind of ugly inside.
LOL. Your opinion means nothing. Have a nice day dude.
Is this angeles crest?
No, Topanga
